Friday

Husband received vaccine #2 and is very fatigued so no golf today.  I'm sitting here after talking with Carole, making plans for dinner, and adding Voltaren (thank you Amy) to my list.  My brother was told to use Tei-Fu Muscle Recovery Lotion, all natural, for his neck problems and is very pleased with it.  Not for pain, but muscle release.

The nurse caring for Carole came to her bed after hearing her talk.  Most times she is reciting a vivid but not often appealing dream.  No, she is not leaving ICU today or tomorrow.  I was again giving wrong info to everyone on the list, including the patient!  She is in xtreme pain because of a clot in the already painful and swollen left leg.  Fentanyl lasted an hour (then what's the attraction?) did nothing, she is refusing OXY.  I told her to try a half dose first with the nurse, if not upset, take the other.  Her BP is 115/54 so they started her on BP reduction meds to find that balance for weak hearts.  Offered iron and blood which were quite low, and I learned something new.  Shaking, unable to find words, difficulty communicating, and thinking you're in the woods were a big concern to her.  Last time this same valve was done, she was tied to her bed and growling.  Not uncommon.  But we were surprised that a test exists to determine mental status of such patients.  Carole had a positive score for ICU delirium and she said "finally, I passed a test".

Petey continues to not use one leg, I tried to get a closer look and he bolted so I won't do that again.  His heated house may be getting too warm for him, first time in months he chose the white one and we got a midnight chuckle seeing this.

Have a nice weekend!!

I hope to catch up with posts,IG, and videos.

Stay well!

I just love his leg sticking out! Reminds me of my very brief menopausal moments when I would sleep with one leg out of the covers! I am still tired since the #2 covid shot, but quite frankly I was before too. Lots of people without power down here, we are lucky so far, no problem but the high winds are really scaring the dog. Right now, it is dark, matching my mood. Even 4 chocolate chip cookies didn't help. Poor Carole, what a difficult situation for her and since visiting is so limited, for you as well. Rest. While you can.

At least Carole still has her sense of humor :-)

I loved Carole's response and she's clearly got it together to be able to respond that way. I agree that the medical world could do way better on the communication end of things, and I think there's nothing wrong with critiquing some areas of her (and everyone's) care. I love how you look after her and hope I can do as well for my sister. There's nothing like a sister... As for the trigger fingers, I have trigger thumb--no idea what caused it, but it's not on my stitching hand anyway. Some days it hurts like the dickens, today it's giving me a break and feels almost normal. Think of a length of silk with a knot in it being pulled through a needle eye. I think there are a couple treatments including surgery and steroid shots that can help. Depending on what causes it, it can heal up on its own. I'm rooting for it to heal on its own.

LOL...love the furry legs sticking out....reminds me of me sleeping. I don't care how cold it is (and it gets COLD here), I have to have at least one leg outside the covers. ICU delerium...Hmmm, that's a new one on me too. I wonder if the phenomenon occurs outside the ICU...I seem to growl quite a bit. Both my husband and my son use Voltaren (for their knees), but theirs is prescription?? Gee...that's pretty under the weather if no golf.... ~Robin~

Marly: I hope this comes to an end where Carole can go home and enjoy life.
Mike step-father used to talk funny due to the pain meds, they found out he was unable to take some meds, they finally found the even balance.
I hope they are taking cautions for the blood clot, so scary.
Poor baby having a bad leg.
I hope you are doing better.
Hugs to you

Catherine

Carole seems to be feeling a wee bit better. You were able to talk to her and she's joking so that's a good sign. That blood clot sounds painful. Hope they can dissolve that. I've never heard of ICU delirium. Sounds reasonable that some patients would get it though. Being in pain can do crazy things to a body and mind. Hope your husband is feeling better after that 2nd dose. Hope you can rest a bit this weekend. Petey's legs cracked me up.

Carole still hangs on to her sense of humor. That is a good sign. :) Crazy Petey. ;) Hope Mark feels better today. Prayers for you all!

I had a similar reaction to my second shot as Mark did. That plus my shot itched, haven't heard too much of that one. Glad Carole is hanging in there . I use Voltaran everyday on my stitching thumb. Easier than joint replacement which involves 12 weeks of not using my right hand!
