Starting a new decade

  Seventy.  Holy crap.
How old do you have to be before you stop making the same mistakes over and over?

I'm considering a new start to the sampler.  Even though I love the green, the following row's chosen colors aren't great with it. That 501 series has been in several of the last projects, I'm tired of it.  And the conversion charts for GAST to DMC can sometimes be way off so before I get too far along, I'd like to look up the skeins online and try to find my own DMC match.  And it would help if I did not put 6 strand cuts in the wrong bags.  I wondered why the reds were so different, I had several pieces of 22 in the 3721 bag.  Happened before and will again.

If you're wondering how the sewer project developed into such a large price tag, the tap in fee is $3000.  The excavating down seven feet, a twelve inch layer of gravel, the plastic pipe, and pushing the dirt back in is $7200.  Breaking up and removing the stamped concrete patio, removing deck boards and joists, and running a second line from mom's added bath, $3400.  To have the 1000 gallon tank emptied and filled with dirt from a sanitary company, $500. To replace the deck joists and top boards, smooth the former patio area so we can walk on it, and hiring a landscaper to remove the three foot pile of removed soil along one hundred feet and rake and seed the lawn, we don't even have a price yet.  Mark started on the deck to save some bucks but the screws break when removing and a pry bar is needed to pop them off.  Not good for anyone's back when one lets loose.

Yesterday my eyes were so bad I could not look up at the shelves in Lowes, nor peruse the plants at the garden center.  I could only look down and when the sun reflected on concrete, Mark had to steer me because I could not see.  He took me back this morning during rain and clouds to get a yellow petunia to add to the barrels.  They usually die but this is a new variety that promises to be outstanding.

Carole was told by the SNF doctor this morning that both legs will need to be removed.  It was mentioned in CC, not certain, and I wish he would not have said that.
I'm making myself one of my favorite cakes today, the chocolate zucchini bundt.  It's in the oven now, did not have time today.  I never really celebrated birthdays.  Good thing!!  With only a few family members, most of whom forget, that would be pretty upsetting.

After waiting for Amazon deliveries and another storm to dissipate, we drove out to give Carole the items she requested.  Really nice cosmetic bags with handles for the new hooks to hold, a larger mirror and folds flat into a vinyl case perfect for the tray table, and a few other dookies.  The magnetic hooks we found that hold 28# work really well on the inside of the tray's support leg, out of the way but easily reached, and is holding a large hardcover with ease.  All of her toiletries, necessities, notebooks glasses and pens, all have their own bag on a hook.  Perfect for those that are confined yet have everything within reach.

Hope you had a nice day.

I’ll be the first to wish you a very Happy Birthday, Marly!! I hope you’re enjoying a big piece of that cake right now!! Lord knows you deserve it! I’m so sorry for everything that Carole is going through, and you along with her. You are a saint and she is blessed to have you and Mark. I hope you can relax a bit and work on the beautiful sampler you’ve started. And, you’ve piqued my interest with that Bee’s Knees petunia! Very pretty! I’m hooked on the bubblegum petunias because of you! Enjoy your day and take care of yourself! Cherie in WI

Happy, Happy, Birthday Marly! I hear you about the not celebrating thing...but at least your Mark must remember your day. Cake sounds yummy...but do you have zucchini already? Or were you thinking ahead (unlike me) and froze some? Ouch on the sewer bill(s).... I take it that this is not an "optional" thing?? What happens to those who truly just cannot afford it? Do I overthink things? (Don't answer the very last question...I KNOW the answer). ~Robin~

Happy Birthday and many, many more. I hope you did something for just you today. 70 isn't so bad. I have one more year left in my 50's. Those petunias are so cheery.

Happy 70th Birthday, Marly. The 70s weren't so bad for me, but oh, the 80s.
Love your sweet yellow petunias. So cheery.
Hate what you're having to go through with the sewer line. Glad you have the $$$$ to take care of it.
Also hate to hear the news about Carole's legs.
Enjoy your stitching, floss changes, flowers and your yummy birthday cake.
God bless you in your new decade.
Hugs,
Charlotte in Va.

Happy Birthday Marly: Nice yellow flowers so soft of a yellow.
Nice Sampler, this is a very pretty design.
So sorry about Carole's legs.
Oh my gosh that is a price tag for all that is being done and to top it off $500 to fill the old tank, I cannot even imagine.
I looked up that recipe, it looks yummy.

Many happy returns on your 70th birthday! I turn 60 today so I'm right behind you! Your yellow flowers are beautiful. I stopped planting petunias because they never survived the heat here in NJ. I've never posted on your blog before but I wanted to let you know how much I admire you for all you do for Carole, for your stitching, for your resilience and how you manage to take everything in stride, even though you've been handed more than most people could bear. You may not see it that way, but you truly are an inspiration. I'm dealing with some health issues myself, including chronic pain from shingles, and I wish I had your grace and perseverance. I pray for a calmer, healthier decade in your 70s than you had in your 60s! Best wishes to you.

Happy Birthday, Marley - I hope that cake tasted as good, I've never had that kind. Sorry on the news of Carole's other leg, I hope she accepts it and doesn't fuss at you about it. Also the sewer bill - yikes, and the vision troubles yesterday. Those petunias are very pretty, I haven't seen them around here.

Marly, Happy Birthday. The yellow petunias look lovely, hope they last. So far this year my petunia choices have survived. I have them in a kitchen window box that faces south and gets 24 hours of sun!!!! Sorry to hear about Carole, this will be difficult for her as it would for anyone. Be well. PS I just had to check seven verification photos….phew!

I wish for you peace and harmony on your birthday Marly. I also want to check out that type of petunia. Folks are bug eyed for top soil and landfill. Maybe you could post a “free if you haul” listing on “Nextdoor” or some safe site and save yourself from that cost.

Happy Birthday. That cake sounds delicious. I have to try it sometime soon. Your petunias are a wonderful shade of yellow. I know that at some point my mother's house will need the sewer system replaced, but she doesn't have the money anymore so I am hoping it waits until we can sell it.

I'm going to say Birthday Blessings since I am late. Story of my life lately. I passed that benchmark 3 years ago, for some reason it didn't bother me the way many of my friends declared it bothered them. My famous line these days: I woke up (always a pretty good sign) I am not bleeding anywhere (I don't think so anyway) and I am not on fire (that I am sure of.) Please forgive the cynical view, I am a nurse, I have seen too much.
So sorry for Carole, such a devastating diagnosis. I cannot imagine.
Your colors look perfect.

70! Well, I'm only four years behind you, Marly! Where have the years gone?!?! Hope you had a relaxing birthday with your cake, flowers, and stitching. You so deserve a day off... Thinking of you and Carole--take good care of yourself ♥

Happy Birthday Marly! I'm sure your cake was very good too. If we lived closer, Hubby and I would help Mark removing the deck boards and other work. Did something happen with your septic system or are you being required to connect to the sewer? I'm so sorry to hear what the SNF doctor told her about her legs. Continued prayers and hugs for you all.
