Floored

This will sound ridiculous, but I am stumped.  A new Shark vacuum that could suck the hair off my legs was purchased two weeks ago.  There is a bare floor setting for which the brush does not roll, another for carpet.  No silicone bands, no spray, no pet hair pickup, just a basic Nav 352 model.  Ever since, we can barely walk on the hardwood.  Nothing changed, there is no wax, no gloss, no new cleaners, and yet I have almost gone down several times as has husband.  We've had various brands of vacuums and electric brooms with never a change in footing.  Studied the bottom, nothing there to cause this and if it did, surely Shark would know about it.  So I cleaned the floor again today with just white vinegar after trying standard cleaners and no change.  This morning going one step down, I luckily managed to grab on to the door frame, otherwise, my back would have landed on the edge of that step.  Don't use the vacuum again?  We haven't!  But I can't remove the slick!

Anyway, bad eye days so not much done but even so, this will be a beauty.  I can't wait to move on to the flowers and complete this page.  I never stitched page to page, but have done so with a few recent samplers.  Rachel is not as large as others but I plan to follow this method for her.

I am so glad this wooden tray table fell over in the closet a while back.  Perfect for my clutter and accessories, the rim holds everything from falling off, and I can pull it close to work or quickly push away when the coffee says it's time to run.

I feel a little foolish about the Needlework Expo currently in progress.  With all the hype I thought we would be able to view the new charts and then order at a shop. Where?  I saw a few sneaks, no name to the charts, how could I pre-order if not shown?  Designers were announcing new releases for the expo, but I saw very few on their posts.

There was a large spider between the glass and screen, by the time I tried to catch a photo (because some man doesn't believe their size, ever) and it's now gone.  Great.  That window will never be opened again.

Hot baby!!  Flowers are wilting even with water, it's too bad summer waited to appear in its last few days.

Be safe.

Whoa, I am as stumped as you are. I have never experienced anything like that with a vacuum. Rachel is looking good! I like that rimmed tray table.

Annabella's Etsy shop has listed many Needlework Expo releases for preordering...good photos and discounts...you may want to check it out.

OK, let me see if my comments bounce back! The floor is concerning, for sure. Why not try it on another surface and see if it polishes ceramic like the hardwood. I have a Dyson with a hardwood brush, it doesn't do that. The brush is a soft, microfiber number, with no bristles.

Steam bath time in Pa. Not as much fun as I thought! Your stitching looks so good, you amaze me!

Rachel is a real beauty. You always tempt me so!! And what am I working on?? Another stupid mermaid. Yikes. Will I ever grow up? (Don't answer that please). Can't posit any theories for your floor dilemma. Have you tried calling Shark?? It must be spewing some sort of residue somehow?? Stay cool...raining here again...water's rising in the basement. Getting weary. ~Robin~

Such a strange thing with your vacuum!! Cann't you mail to the company to explain what happend to your floor?? Perhaps they have a solution to this big problem and it is dangerous too!
Your stitching looks better than mine despite my eyesight mine is better than yours.
Take care you both of you with this floor!!!

Rachel looks lovely. I think I'd give Shark a call rather than risk a hip fracture. I have that same vac and have never experienced that problem. Of course, here in Florida, our wood floors always have a layer of sand, brought in from outside, to serve as resistance to slipping. So glad to see you stitching. Take care.

The only thing I can think of about the floors is does the brush really turn off on the bare floor setting, or is it still running and the brush polishing the floor. If it's a mechanical polishing, not chemical one like wax, I fear the only thing that might fix it is time, or sanding(?). I know I'd hate to, but I'd be thinking about putting a no-slip rug at that step.

Going back to a couple of prior posts - this is why I fear to order linen on line, especially the hand dyed ones. There's no way to tell if what's shown is what you'll get. And the same color names vary between thread counts and fabric contents. I do like your tray. Some days I'm so tempted to rig up a pole by my chair (attach it to the chair?) to mount a tray, light, magnifier, and frame holder so I can just swing everything out of the way to stand up, how it looks be damned.

Rachel is looking good, you made the right call taking out that tree and re-doing it properly.

It seems that unless you are on FB, IG, or other social media, we *can't* see what's new. I'm SO sick of people assuming everyone is on those. GRRRR!

Another though on your vacuum... after reading CrankyCrow's comment about the vacuum spewing something, does Mark have a scrap of plywood? Or any wood large enough to fit the vacuum on? I'm thinking run it over unfinished plywood and you might be able to see if it's being mechanically polished or if there's something from the machine getting put on, like lubricant from someplace.

Very strange about the vacuum. I hope you can resolve the problem.
Your sampler is looking good ;-)

That sounds like a true mystery about the vacuum cleaner, Marly! I would be in big trouble here as we have all hardwood flooring except in a couple of room with tile. Le us know if you figure it out!

That tray table is ideal. When my mom died, I brought home a large wooden tray that she had used on an end table to keep things from falling off. It is now my
stitching tray" that fits perfectly on my side table and then, if I suddenly need to clean up my space for visitors, I can simply lift up the tray and slide it under the couch out of sight :)
