If you are unable to locate a particular color of linen for a project, you should be able to find a substitute that is so close you won't notice a difference. The Affogato I received is very nice and I can't tell the difference from the Antique Lace.
This background is Oatmeal (Kitten Stitcher) as is the totally different Oatmeal (Hobby House) in the right corner. So if a chart calls for it, which one would work with the threads? The other two, Caramel Macchiato and Buttermilk, are no different at all from the Oatmeal. But not the corner Oatmeal which matches my Prairie Grass. There's no way to know which variation of a color was used for the model so close enough has to be good enough! And it appears a completely different linen may be closer to what the model is stitched on.
Stayed in the car yesterday while Mark did the errands but did go into Kraynak's to see new offers. I featured this store before, the largest Christmas shop ever. So many string light options, theme bulbs, tabletop items, collectibles, artificial greens, ribbons, tiny to massive trees, yoi! They opened the back area this year for more toys, which also fill the actual store. The Christmas items are in the numerous greenhouses. My knees were giving out so I got a few larger bells for the skimpy tree and left. Between that and a shower, I was so exhausted. Hard to understand when all else is so much better.
I found two charts recently purchased that I didn't remember and they are NICE! Hurry up Rachel Hyde! Let's get your clusters hanging!
High winds and rain, cold weekend. Crapola.
Hope everyone took some time yesterday to honor our veterans.

You will soon need to open a linen store ;-)
That Christmas shop looks amazing! Just what we both need is another tree...lol!
Vintage Sand Dune is on my list of "needed linens" and has been for some time...haven't been able to find it....but after what you said, I'm not sure I want to anymore LOL. I'm not overly fond of the yellowish tone...sometimes for Halloween things, but even then I sometimes hesitate. Sounds like your head spins almost as much as mine does when figuring which linen is right...even when I have the "called for" linen in hand. I wish the people who take the model photographs would aim for more color-accurate photos.... Sometimes I am absolutely shocked when I see someone's hooked version (and sometimes I'm THAT someone) compared to the model photo. Yikes. Too soon to think about Christmas....but for me, December 25th will still be too soon. But that store looks like a satellite branch of the North Pole. Wowsers. Cold and windy here too...REAL wind yesterday and the day before...and tons of cold rain...today was snow. I didn't bother looking at tomorrow. ~Robin~
Glad you got out. Sounds like you are feeling better. Yay!
when I see too many Christmas trees and Christmas decorations in a store I go cross eyed and it all starts to look the same. Sorry those snow people tried to trip you. Don't they know you've been sick? No respect. And they look so sweet. You can keep your high winds and cold but we sure could use some of that rain. You'll get your energy back eventually I'm sure. Have a good weekend.
The Christmas shop with all these trees looks very pretty, but I think I can start a Christmas shop myself with all the stuff I bought over the years! lol
Happy to hear you went out to the shop and are recovering from that nasty illness.
All my stitching stuff is in boxes now for moving house in a few weeks time.
Take care, sending prayers for you all and a big hug, Truus from Holland
Love the Christmas shop and trees. Going small this year.....Would love to be able to visit that shop.
If you have one, wear your "ugly" Christmas sweater, next time....the elves, snowmen, etc. will love you.
I hope and pray that Carole will be able to be home for Christmas. "All hearts go home for Christmas".
Thinking of you and continued prayers.
Hugs,
Charlotte in Va.
I would love to wander through that store! But as my stamina has apparently decided to stay on a long-term vacation, I'd probably manage one aisle - phooey.
I long ago gave up on trying to use the model color of linen when I ordered a piece of the R&R that was called for. On the chart picture, the fabric looked like a light natural, but what I received was realky orangey! Way too much so for the rusts that dominated the thread colors. Figured I'd gotten a bad dye lot,so ordered a second piece of that R&R (autumn leaves, I think it was) from a different shop, and that one was even more orange! 😢 Fool me twice = lesson learned. Since then, I select fabric by doing a floss toss. Oops.......just realized that probably wouldn't work too well for you with your inclination to change colors as you stitch.
I'm getting happier and happier that I'm a slow stitcher so I don't have to worry about hand dyed linens not as shown. I'm glad you got out and about again, but darn those gnomes and snowmen trying to trip you! That's enough reason for me to stay far away from those store aisles. As if it being only mid-November and far too early to think about that holiday yet. *I'd* be perfectly happy forgoing the tree, but DH has other ideas.
That looks like a fun shop to visit with very few people around. I am glad you were able to get around it despite those gnomes and snowmen. Those fabric certainly look very similar. I don't think I would have the patience to compare like you do.....although sometimes you do sound quite frustrated. I get that. Hoping you get a little stronger each day.
Glad you were able to get out, my former DIL and her sister used to work at Kraynak's after school and on weekends. She would come up with some nice centerpieces! I have driven past the area hundreds of times when we had a cottage in Pymatuning, but never stopped, always had dogs in the car and they were not cooperative if I stopped!
I have scaled back with decorating the last few years. I used to decorate every room. I just don't have the stamina anymore.
Your linens look very similar on my computer screen. I am not a dyer, guaranteed disaster.
Snow flakes here, I am not happy either. There has to be something we can do!!!!!!
Greetings Marly: Cute post, love the Christmas display, thank-you for sharing.
I have a hard time finding the right color fabric myself, drives me batty, not that i am batty already just a bit more batty.
I wish that there were more cross stitch shops like we had back in the 90s and early 2000's, then it would not be so bad looking for fabric, we could a least visit a store close by.
I did find some 32 count fabric at Hobby Lobby I just love.
I hope you are able to spend some time with Carole for Thanksgiving.
Catherine
