Cluster color

Hi folks.  Another afternoon of a promise to sit and do nothing, but this time I am stitching.  Errors galore, but when expected, not as maddening as ones found later.  Three bottles of Similasan in three days, need to order more.

Rachel's clusters were to be 3022, I knew from the start that would be the one color definitely changed.  Trying to find a subdued grape color wasn't easy and after first thinking DMC 28 or 30 would be perfect, neither were.  Too much color which baffled me since others in the piece were somewhat bright.  Moved to 3041 and 3042, still not happy.

Then I remembered a pear design that was a sweet soft amethyst/lavender and tried it.  I think we have a winner.  Sampler Pear #10 was stitched with 451, an odd and blah color in skein that I never used before this.  But gorgeous when stitched.

In the same family is 3860, deeper and another beauty but may be too much.  3861 is a little lighter than 451 and also a contender but again, for some reason, I was still crabby.  All of them are beautiful, not too blue, not too red, not too stark.
The 451 is on the right and the 3860 on left.
And in the big picture...

Hmmm.  The 3860 does look good, doesn't it?   This photo is of course different than in person, but I'm looking at both and making my still woozy head spin.  Damn.

Oh well.  I'll continue with surrounding stitches until I decide.

I didn't fill the white areas of the vine on the right to prevent soiling, but will soon and then roll the top down and baste it.  I'm anxious to try the frozen linen but there are too many orange sherberts and ice creams in the fridge freeze.  And some protective guy won't allow me to use the basement stairs to the big one.

Have a good day folks.

Marly: It sounds like you are feeling better, I hope you are back to normal health soon, colds and flu suck.
I totally love the colors of this pear, perfect choice, you have an eye for color.
Your Sampler is beautiful.

The 3860 does balance, stand on its own, yet complements the other colors. You have such a keen sense of color, Marly, you will know what the perfect fit should be. Here
is hoping that you and Mark have a relaxing weekend, that you are further restored and
your eyes are up to allowing you to stitch away. Blessings +

Hmmmm.... When I saw the first photo (the close-up), I thought 451...but when I saw the larger pic, I agree...3860 is a better fit. (But I can see why your head spins....) Your freezer sounds a lot like mine, My Mark, however, is nothing like yours. ~Robin~

Keep them both. My mantra is things don't have to match!

I personally prefer 3860, but they are both pretty. I hope you are feeling a little bit better each day. Seeing a post from you makes me smile just to know that your are feeling well enough to post. Mark is taking good care of you. Hugs.

I like them both, but I do think 3860 goes a tad better with the surrounding colors. Marly, I am glad you seem to be feeling better. Continue to rest when your body says so.

Beautiful and I agree with the others #3860 is a winner. As soon as I saw your pear I remembered that one is unfinished in a Christmas Cookie tin, in the queue. I am a hopeless "sprinter" and slow at the finish line. Thanks for the reminder, right now I am in the midst of wooly Christmas gifts. Never enough time it seems. So happy you are on the mend. Be well, rest.

That's a good sign you are stitching again and making choices which color it should be! I like the left one the most but think it should a little bit lighter.
Mark is looking well after you!!!
Take care and stay save both of you two.
Still sending prayers and a big hug,Truus from Holland
