Lots of cookies on a plate, cookies in a bag, cookies in a box, cookies on a tray. Fancy, plain, colored, sprinkled, iced, rolled, flat, and shaped. So I decided to make a tray of the Hawaiian sliders with ham and swiss for Carole's aides. I've made the philly, Italian, meatball, but think this is the best. Various recipes for the butter dressing, mine has more Worcestershire and no dijon. They're ready to coat and put in the oven which I'll do tomorrow and send with Chris. Fill in workers will be there for Christmas and there should be some left for them also.
I really want to try a pistachio shortbread recipe, not sure I will. I have to make dinner for Chris, his son, their kids. He expected to have that here. Nope. Making Johnny Marzetti casseroles tomorrow, can be made ahead, and Jess can stick them in the oven with garlic bread if she puts her damn phone down. We'll have to drive out to see Carole. Coming home for the day would not have worked. She is sitting in a wheelchair but extensions are required because of the brace. She's not ready for an afternoon out yet. And "the girlfriend" that caused a reaction in the beginning, is covid positive as is her family. No one is ill thank goodness, but still contagious.
It will be close to 60 degrees Saturday, but we started getting the white crap yesterday and it was really cold. Odd that no snow settled on the repaired lawn area.
Answers to a few questions...
except for the latest from HL, my sparse trees had been purchased at various shops many years ago.
The battery candles are not the moving wick style which are also nice, all available on Amazon. You can see a video of the ones I purchased here
and another seller here. The Eywamage Store on Amazon has a variety of styles and sizes. The moving wick comes flat and also shaped, a lot of options on Amazon. I just searched for "Eywamage remote" to order extras so each recipient gets one. Carole loves hers and the nurse saw it from the hall and came flying in to extinguish!
And now as I am finally seated and ready to finish Sprigs, the age old question of what thread to use when your choices are not showing. White in the top left, called for in the bottom right. Neither are noticeable but I think white is the better choice.
Be well, deep breath, have a cookie.

Such a wonderful thing for you to do for those working where Carole is -- sure hope they appreciate it! Everybody loves food gifts :).
I have a few of those battery operated candles with flickering lights on our mantle along with a lighted garland and love them. Think I'll order some for grandchildren (older & married) for gifts next Xmas.
Had to smile when you said the "flame" of the battery operated candle brought the nurse running cuz they sure look real. At least they are on their toes and alert.
Merry Xmas and a Happy Healthy (!) New Year to you and your family.
Busy bee you are, those ham sliders look so good, made them a few years ago but not lately. Now I have an idea. You are a good sister, God Bless, Merry Christmas.
Marly: Wow you are one busy Lady, the sliders are a wonderful choice for nibbling on, they look yummy.
Pistachio bread sounds yummy, I bet you are a fantastic cook/baker.
I really like the new design Sprigs you stitched, I am like you about the snowflakes I change to a color that is more visible.
Merry Christmas to you your family and Carole

I'm glad you are keeping the herd out of your house tomorrow. Bummer that Carole can't come, but maybe it's for the best. I suspect getting her there and in the door would not have been the last of the things to overcome. And throw in that new virus version... Those sliders look good, and there's sauce on them? The only sliders I've had were dry, so my thought was "whats the big deal?". I don't know if no sauce, if it was skimped on, or if made too far ahead and the buns soaked it all up. The facility people will be happy tomorrow!
For Sprigs, did you use the regular white floss? I do like that it's subtle, sort of like a background item. I'm wondering if bright white (B5200?) might show up a bit better. Or maybe that's too harsh with the other colors? What about a soft light blue?
I hope not too much keeps you on the run tomorrow, you have a minute to catch your breath, and have a Merry Christmas.
Happy Christmastide, Marly! May you find extra time to sit and stitch!
How kind of you to take sliders to the staff. I'm sure they will be much appreciated!
Sprigs is too sweet.
This weather is just unreal. I have daffodils poking from the ground. They are in for a rude awakening, I'm sure.
Merry Christmas, my friend.

Funny you mention Johnny Marzetti casseroles... Growing up, our church often had potlucks or when there was a funeral, the Ladies Aid would put on a lunch. There were always several casseroles that were similar - ground beef, cheese, corn, and some type of tomato sauce....but all were NOT equal and it was sometimes difficult to find the "good" one. In recent years I have searched for a recipe for that one "good" one and came upon a recipe for the Johnny Marzetti casserole, which I made last week. Ummm, not a fan. Probably just the recipe but it was dry...and it called for a mix of tomato paste and Sloppy Joe seasoning mix. That flavor did nothing for me. On the bright side, Snowdog has at least eaten something these past several days. 😳 Of all the gifts you've given Carole, the candle strikes me the most. I think if I were ever in a situation like that, one thing I would truly miss is my candles and little lights. It just isn't "home" without them. (Not that a place like that will ever be home, but at least it gives a feeling of comfort and coziness.) ~Robin~
