I know it's bad for you, but I do like Rice a Roni even though I've never been to San Francisco.
But this is rice that's 'a ruining! I do believe the worst is over and I am continuing with less trouble.
I outlined 4 squares on the chart to represent each rice stitch because I had a very difficult time discerning where one ended. Messy, but I also colored the adjacent symbols and it did help. The DMC 422 is quite pale and hard for me to see on the linen. I ended up first doing the full cross over 4 threads to make sure I had correct placement. Once the base was in place for that row, I did the additional corner crosses, confident that the frogs were napping.
This area was removed twice previously, and the rice frogs made the linen limp and stretched for holding a stitch. So I used the Best Press twice to size and give body to the linen. It helped, but I feel a little stickiness and its scent is noticeable.
Everyone loved the flannel pillows, but the wheelchair's extension has changed from the wooden board to the chair's attachment which is much lower. They weren't enough. The bag her rolled twin comforter came in was perfect. I used a bag of fiberfill, drew it closed, and it's a fat bolster shape that raises her stump high enough so the knee isn't bent. The small flannels are perfect for reading in bed.
Have a great weekend folks.

You are so caring about doing what you can do for Carole and I hope she appreciates all you've done for her. The time you've spent on those pillows should help, at least a little bit. I'm concerned about your own care but know Mark is doing what he can to help.
I loved your comment that the "frogs were napping". Wish my many frogs would too!! I think I could stitch some things 2X with all the frogs that appear in my stitching lately.
Your sampler is really looking so pretty and I look forward to seeing your finish.
Like me, my frogs have insomnia...big time.
Good idea to draw a line about the place where the Rice stitches are.
Love your quote about the sleeping frogs.
Glad to hear that Carole can use the pillows you have made for her. Does she know you made them for her???
Take care of yourself, and sending prayers and lots of love to you, Truus from Holland
Have a warm, relaxing, enjoyable, comfortable weekend.
I'm ready for some heat and humidity !
Hugs,
Charlotte in Va.
I had to go look up rice stitch, I can see why you did all the large crosses first! I'm glad it allowed the frogs to keep napping. I'm glad the pillows worked out, even if not as planned.
You always go above and beyond to assist in the comfort of all. I know family is so important and you must know that the lives of your sister and others are enriched by your love and efforts. So kind always....they come first.....you are a great example for us all. Take care and hope your 2022 is filled with good health and love and happiness
That sampler is so beautiful and worthy despite the grand effort...what an accomplishment and testimony to your tenacity. And what a testimony to your devotion is all you do for Carole... your soul radiates goodness and blessed humor.. Are you going to settle into winter quietude now and pursue what gives you some contentment? Hope the weekend will bring you relaxation and time for self...and Mark.
What a beautiful sampler. I do love rice stitch - both doing it and the look of it.
Glad you were able to make a bolster and some pillows - they turned out so cute.
I loved San Francisco and riding the Rice-a-Roni cable cars...though now I hear the city is disgusting with feces everywhere.
Sampler is simply beautiful.
Your sampler is beautiful, amazing you have completed as much as you have despite your health and eye issues. And even though Carole has suffered terribly lately she has been blessed with you as a sister - you are truly such a loving, caring, thoughtful person. May God watch over you and your family this year, hope it is a GOOD one for you all.
