Twisting

Not the dance that us oldie but goodies remember from Chubby Checker (but will be humming his great work all day).  Before we leave for a sister visit, I am giving Rachel's over one a second cross.  I'm not proficient with over one on 36 count but managed several areas on recent samplers with only obscenities to deal with.  None were DMC 310.  The twist is loosening on each of the three skeins in my inventory even before working with it which makes it sloppy and heavy.  What I've completed so far is fine, but it's a PITA to keep them even.

This is a new six inch long thread that was pulled through the linen just a few times and look at the difference in the unused strand from that cut.  Doesn't take much, even handling will loosen it.  I will stop for another skein on the way to our visit, maybe JoAnn's to try Anchor.

Remember when I offered two separate bags of every DMC color?  That was foolish.  Intense hot flashes fried many brain cells and common sense is sometimes lost in distractions and fog.  But it's not a big deal, I can always buy more.  Before I became connected to online stitchers, I thought I had a damn good inventory of charts, threads, linens.  What a mistake that was.  I am amazed at the amount of stash and supplies that most have, like comparing pre-school to a Phd.

Back to Rachel, I will try a new skein of 310.  I may need to change to another color and if problems persist using a full cross, removing the current stitches will be very difficult.  I have the Bluebird project ready, but concerned that if I put Rachel aside, she will stay there.

Leaving you with Chubby's The Twist playing in your head all day.  Personally, Let's Twist Again is my favorite but after visiting his recordings, Limbo Rock will have me stepping high today.

Stay safe!

While I always loved the Chubs, I am spending my time with The Ice Man today, Gerry Butler.

Your patience with the project astounds!

Marly, I found that it’s easier to do one complete stitch at a time when it’s over one and a smaller count fabric. But, maybe easier for you this way, with your eye troubles. Also, the older DMC thread seems to be better quality than some I’ve purchased recently. Rachel will be fabulous and I’m happy that you’re sticking with her! Have a good weekend! Cherie in WI

Well crikey... that totally stinks. Can't say I recall ever encountering that...then again, I don't do much 1 over 1. Yeah...the stash thing. I have only watched a handful of flosstubes and, frankly, they scared the crap out of me. When trying to isolate the reason for that feeling, all I could come up with was how "enabling" they would be for me.... I thought I had an "issue" with "accumulating" patterns, projects, supplies, etc. that I would not get through in all my 9 lives or any afterlives I may be entitled (subjected?) to. But holy moly....some of these women make me think I'm a minimalist of the rarest order...and THAT is scary. ~Robin~

Hi Marly: I like one over one but only on certain fabric, I have a hard time with loos weave linen sometimes.
I have used a few choice words on some of my stitching projects, that's when Mike comes running because I never use choice words.
This is really a very pretty design, i hope you keep going with it.
Have a beautiful visit with Carole.
Stay warm we had 7 inch's of snow today and now single digit temps.
Chubby Checker, I love the style of music from the fifties and sixties.

You might like to try Sullivan's black if you can get it. I find DMC black a right pain, but Sullivan's seems to be smoother with less thick bits if you know what I mean. Good luck.

If you don't mind mixing silk and cotton you might want to consider trying a fine silk like surfine. It's great for high thread counts and I think it stays neater looking when doing over one.

I have only watched a few flosstube videos, but holy hell!!! I thought I had an accumulation problem, not with stitching but with wool, but me thinks not. I am a total slacker.

Marly the new DMC yarns are very loose so don't buy another one, because it will have the same problem.
I personally don't like black and use a dark grey instead.
Hope you had a good drive to Carole and it was good to visit her today.
I only watch the flosstube of my stichting shop and she shows what she is making for herself or the shop....it's Annemiek from the Handwerk Boetiek....
Sending prayers and lots of love to you, Truus from Holland
