Petey

You sat in the woods where you knew I could see you from a window.

A beaten mess, I could not offer a gentle hand, only food and shelter.

Half of Nit's ear was removed by you, until you decided to try being a friend.

You loved your condo and its patio, as the boys watched you.

You tried hard to be in the group, but kept your distance.

After some time I was able to pet you and oh how you loved it, until the next day.

We built you a nice house into which a heated house could be added in winter.

Every day, all day, sleeping, lounging, eating ..... here.

One morning your house was empty, and we called and waited.

Today, we found you.

The last few years you were protected, well fed, comfortable, and happy.

We will miss you terribly sweet Pete.

Marly, Such sad news. I felt like I knew Petey from reading how wonderfully you cared for him. He had such a happy time there and it was evident he came to trust and most likely loved you for showing you cared for his well being. I'd like to think he's found some new friends where he is now.

This made me beyond sad. My condolences to you and Mark. Even though you could not pet him more, I could tell by how you wrote about him and made him a great home outside, you loved him and he knew it. Rest sweet boy at the Rainbow Bridge. We will miss your little self on this blog.

Oh Marly. I am so very, very sorry. I am glad that you and Mark found him. My Mom and my brother never found Sweetie and they searched for over a week. God bless you two for the wonderful care you give God's cats.

Sobbing as I read this devastating post about the death of your beloved Petey. I'm so sorry about your loss. He chose you for a reason; you offered soft words, shelter, love, compassion, good food, & gentle care in the last years of his life. He died finally knowing kindness & love, which says a great deal. When I think of how horrible his life must have been before he showed up at your home, I want to cry all over again. but Petey's at peace now & you'll see him again one day, fully restored to health, with the playfulness of a kitten. This post hit me especially hard, as five of our rescued pets - three cats & two hens - have died in the past two years. What is grief, if not love's grand finalé?

Marly, I'm so upset about Petey but at least he was loved and cared for the last few years of his life, goodness knows what it was like before you stepped in. Take care.

I'm so sad Marly. So sad. Poor Petey. My mom was just diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of days ago and now sweet Petey is gone. This week is like a punch in the gut, I wish I could press "rewind" for you. I'm so sorry. :-(

May your sweet memories of Petey be of some comfort to you as you grieve his loss. I know how you are feeling as I lost my loving 17-year-old mixed breed terrier Belle 2 weeks ago and miss her very much. How such a small animal can leave such a huge hole in our lives when they leave!

My dear Marly and Mark. This really breaks my heart. You gave Petey the best life any feral kitty could possibly have. Even though you couldn't pick him up and hold him you loved him. It really hurts when something or someone, who we love dies. I know you love and have loved all of the kitties that you've cared for. Maybe he and Bud can be friends at Rainbow Bridge.
So very sorry.
With everything else going on in the news, this just adds to the grief.
I hear that warmer weather is coming, maybe only for a few days at first, but it will be here for us to get out and enjoy. Something positive to look forward to.
Bless you for all of the love and care you gave sweet Petey.
Hugs,
Charlotte in Va.

Believe it or not, I do not shed tears very often...if I did every time I felt like it, I'd drown in them...but this news brought a watershed. Many, if not most of us, know how devastating the loss of fur friend is, but that does nothing to ease the pain and abject emptiness you are now suffering. I pray your heart heals and mends the best it can knowing his absence will rip a bit of it out just as he ripped a bit of Nit's ear. Your post captured your love...and the pain of your loss...so very eloquently. Hugs sweetpea...lots of hugs and healing thoughts. ~Robin~
