Vintage

Dyed two more pillowcases, violet and lavender.  Leaving the heavy crocheted hot pink edged as is.  She has such an assortment of pastels with various edging, I think ten now.  What a difference this has made.  Unfortunately they still need to be ironed!  But rather than setting in a drawer for years, they are now used and such a lovely addition to bedding.  At first I was concerned the color would ruin them, but to my surprise the needle worked edges are actually enhanced compared to the old white background.

If stained, most are orangey and I assume they were left from the rusting holes of mom's old washing machine tub during spinning. I make a paste of Bar Keepers Friend and apply to the wet stain, leave overnight.  If any remains, I use bleach on a Q-tip or baking soda if it appears to be made by coffee.  For some reason, maybe because of the cotton being so old, the dye does not take evenly.  The very light mottling is not noticeable until dampened for ironing.

Just thought I would share.  Cause I really like them.

Well I am a fan of these!! I use poodle embroidered pillowcases I bought off of Etsy years ago. I did not buy them to stare at them. Yes, they are wearing, but so am I! My kids will not want them!

The beauty you gift to Carole...bless you. Those cases are so lovely and you've colored them to perfection... Ironing? What's that? ho-ho. Have a bright day.

So much work went into these beautiful pieces! Did your mother embroider these? Carole should feel so very pampered. ~Robin~

The pillow cases are lovely and a caring, gift for Carole to enjoy. Her bed must look like a flower garden. She is blessed to have you !
My Mom used to iron all of her pillow cases and the top edge of her sheets.
I bought two blouses that need to be ironed.........don't know what I was thinking......really didn't think !
Have a good week !

Marly, I have many of my grandmother's similarly embroidered pillowcases, table runners, and sofa back and arm pieces but yours are in much better condition than mine. They are lovely and I am so glad you are using them. The dyeing really makes the embroidery show up so well!

Marly, your pillow cases are beautiful and I’m sure Carole will be happy to have them. I love old linens, mostly because my Grandma taught me to crochet (I was about 12) by crocheting lace for on pillowcases! Not the easiest thing to learn with, but I’m so happy to have that memory! And, I still make my own lace!! Cherie in WI
