Hello.
Going through a pile of crap in the spare bedroom, I found another piece of the Waverly upholstery fabric. I had a camel back sofa upholstered in it many years ago and have 2.5 yards extra. I don't want to lose that sofa but with no upholsterers, have no choice. If anyone wants this piece for chair pads or something, you can have it for the shipping cost. Yardage weighs 2# and would probably fold into a medium Priority Box. Email me if you want it.
I had such a difficult evening. All the old photos were gone through and I burned the duplicates and ones of unknown persons. The kids with ratty clothes playing outside, row houses with front porches and everyone sitting out and talking after dinner, picnics with the guys playing cards, just so emotional. My aunts, my parents, uncles, cousins, looking at how they lived and struggled with very little. Yet they found pleasure in getting together, playing cards, and telling stories. Connecting. Wireless meant something different back then. Nothing plugged in, it was person to person, face to face, this was the original wireless. How I wish I could go back, spend more time with Nona and learn some Italian, take my aunts out for the afternoon, and more importantly, have my parents tell me in their own words about their early days.
And then .... the tiniest little frick of a tick has caused inflammation and itching. I got him with my gifted tweezers for stitching. Hated to use them but needed that pointed end. And now we wait to see if anything develops in a few weeks. Geez.
I have never seen a rainbow on a bright sunny day, nor one that is not arched, nor one that has no beginning or end! Weird huh? I must have snapped the lens 25 times to get the right area. I can't look up at the bright sky for more than second so just held up the camera and clicked. The second photo shows a ring around the sun and after searching online, it is not uncommon. Called a halo, certain conditions can create a rainbow ring. Huh. A rainbow ring. Who knew? Probably my husband.
May is half over. WHAT???

That second photo is amazing (especially for simply holding the camera and clicking). My mum is incredibly superstitious...she always believed that a sun halo meant rainy (or snowy) weather is on the way. Pray it's rain and not snow. 😉 Like you wishing you could go back in time and listen to your parents' telling of the early days, I wish I had written down all my mum's "superstitions" and other pearls of wisdom. I think, too, that you captured the memories of our youth perfectly. My mother came from a very large family and it seemed that the aunts/uncles/cousins were always getting together...and, yup, playing cards and just visiting. I am thinking that visiting, like handwritten letters, cursive writing, and a gazillion other things, is a dying, if not dead, art. ~Robin~
Life is definitely different. Yes, would love to go back and hear more stories!
Your words about the good old days really resonated with me. I kind of feel heart sick right now.
I miss my Mom and other family members too
Wow, fantastic photos. I didn't know either. Much like a memory returning for a visit. I often try to remember that memories are what we have to hold those close to us. Listening to the older members of our family telling stories seemed so unimportant when I was younger, I too wish I could relive that time with a finer appreciation of our history.
I should get back to (after a couple of years off) working on my old photos. So easy to put it off. Yet it would be a great thing to work on while listening to TV at night. At least I did get them sorted and labeled if I knew who was in the photos.
Nice work on getting yours done. I'd like to be able to ask my parents about things thought off after they passed away. Like why didn't Mom talk about her extended family much, and farm things with Dad (he talked about his extended family quite a bit).
I hope there's no issues from that blasted tick. That's the last thing you need on top of everything else. I've seen those rings, also around the moon. Something to do with ice in the upper atmosphere? Nice photos of them.
Yes I often think of the early days when there was no computer or such-- so much more relaxing days and no hurry to go to clubs, work or anything - just see family and friends and really listen to eachother....
Marly be careful with that tick!! You can be infected without signs of red ring around the spot and please please never use the tweezers again to pick up the tick!!! It's dangerous to do so,because it makes you stick from what is coming out It's mouth.
So see your doctor because you already have signs that something is wrong!!!
Take care and lots of love,Truus from Holland
Yes, how times have changed! I rarely see kids running up and down the neighborhood these days playing until dark. They are probably all inside, alone, playing video games. I truly worry about the future for our younger generations.
Ticks--ugh! I'm beginning to be afraid to walk on the grass anymore. My sons have all had them and went to urgent care to be treated preemptively for Lyme Disease. They just didn't want to take a chance. Hope it is nothing, Marly, but I know you'll be keeping a close eye on the area.
Beautiful sky photos!
Beautiful picture of the rainbow/ring around the sun. Cloudy, damp and miserable here today (Mon).
Picked a lovely bouquet of pretty pink peonies.......rain had bent them to the ground. So pretty this year, much nicer than last year for some reason.
White azaleas are beginning to bloom. Peach iris ready to pop.
Please take care of that tick bite. Sometimes the head can stay in your skin when you pull the body out.
My daughter has said many times how she wishes she had sat down with my Mom and asked her about the early days. My mother was very particular about what she told me.
Have been thinking about the good times my late husband and I had.......those times all gone never to return. Turning 80/81 hasn't done anything good for my spirit.
Expecting storms this afternoon.........Don't like that.
Take care, my friend.

Beautiful sky pictures with the rainbows. I would love to sit on a porch and chat with my parents again - I miss them both a ton. And my grandparents! What a gift that would be.
I ended up with Lyme Disease last year - two LARGE bullseyes on my stomach (just disgusts me to think of those things on my stomach!!). My son had Lyme disease a number of years ago - never had the bullseye...so be careful Marly - better to get on the antibiotic and be safe than not do it.
