is my chosen red bright enough?
The chart photo on darker linen features a fairly bright red, but the conversion lists WDW 2240 as DMC 3777. That was my starting point but other sites list the comparable color as dmc 355. Brighter for sure. The Buckeye Scarlet (bottom thread) is the brightest and 347 is the comparable dmc, but it doesn't pop as much as I would like and not as much as the Scarlet would.
I may stitch a sample with the Scarlet and also the 355 to compare before I go further. The 355 might not appear much different than what I have done so far even though it has more yellow/orange to it but no harm to try.
I'm surprised I'm even taking the time to stitch since this background situation is distracting me. I just deleted a long rant because no purpose is served or outcome resolved.
My dad was thrilled when he was able to purchase a used lathe decades ago, and practiced turning on pieces of scrap oak. A few of them were to be candle holders with the recessed center. I need to get organized (of course I will) and have something to hold my scissors nearby. Perfect.
Hope your week starts darn good and ends even better.
Be safe!

What a sweet scissor holder made even more special having been made by your dad ;-)
I think no matter which red you choose, it'll look more to your liking once you start adding the arms, upper body and other white-looking parts.
Such a wonderful idea using the candle holder your Dad made and your husband drilled those holes for your scissors. I like the idea of adding a pin cushion or tomato in the middle of the top. Reminds me of the pieces Victoria Sampler in BC, Canada offered in the past.
As soon as I looked at the 355 I thought there was too much orange in it. I like what you've been using.
How cool to have something your dad made as a tool for your use in your makings. I am partial to angels and have an angel panel he carved for me and treasure it.
What a beautiful wooden piece from your Dad Marly. And now it's perfect for your scissors. A little pin cushion or biscornu would be sweet in the center. Funny how colors (particularly reds) seem to change color depending on what linen you are using. I know you will end up with something you love.
I love what your Dad and Mark made. Can't wait to see what you add in the center. :)
I knew my sense of color has always been a bit "off" but, wow....to me 355 looks much duller and muted than 347. But I'll take your word for it. Sweet scissors hold...and sweeter that it's a collaborative effort between dad, husband, and you (pincushion and author of the great idea). ~Robin~
I like that scissor holder. What a nice way to use a piece made by your dad. I can see why you want to audition a few more reds. That red doesn't seem to be as rich looking as the original. I do like the way it looks though. Have a good week.
I'm of no help with the reds this morning, need more coffee I guess. Maybe if other bits were stitched, you might like the stitched red better?
I like what your new scissor holder, awesome that your dad made it, and Mark modified it for you. A tomato on top would be sweet.
Hi Marly: I like that you make your own choices on some colors, I really like the fabric color you chose, just out of curiosity, did you dye this on yourself, I am an inquiring mind.
Totally love the scissor stand, what a grand idea, I have cheap scissors they work just like the 45.00-dollar ones.
Have a great day
Catherine
