for a short while longer. I removed some areas and reworked in another color. I'm sort of wonked because I started the sampler with symbols that do not match the legend. When I received the correct chart, those symbols being different threw off my focus. I failed to note the color #s used in the beginning. Example... the star on my original chart is an S on the correct chart, which was sent as .pdf so I can't change the floss #s in the legend to what I started with. Stitching from my tablet but having to refer to the booklet for the floss color symbols and changes. Really confusing. So I'm just stitching the color I think would be fine in that motif before I get too flustered. This is why I prefer having a printed chart for changes and notations, still trying to print the Haslemere sampler.
The prior post's comments proved our personalities don't indicate what surroundings are preferred. Amy's home is traditional with many interesting objects, oriental patterned rugs in every room, draperies, loads of large plants/trees, things that really fill a room. Beautiful result. Certainly not my style. We've lived with nothing on the walls while waiting for a decision on paint color. Furniture was not available and is just getting back to reasonable lead times. Carole's situation took over all else for two years, and the summer before that with her other surgery. After that visit I am making an effort to get this done soon. The longer you live with a mess, an unfinished project, a half painted room, a cluttered junk room, the more it becomes routine and accepted. No painters available, it's on us. I really wanted the walls done with those wonderful pro sprayers. Our local area had excellent established businesses whose owners were all older, now all retired. No new painters.
That's enough! My naps are down to two a day, still exhausted, but moving a little better with less expletives and groans.
Have a great day!
Thanks for visiting.

I know I've become blind to the piles and mess in our house. Stacks of things in various places "for now", the dust bunnies in the corners while I prioritize the king size quilt top, etc. Even outside there's areas I've become blind to.
I knew things with Carole had been priority for you for a long time, didn't realize it's been at least 3 years total now. Far longer when I remember all the other shopping you did for her even before all this hit. No wonder you're tired, cranky, and stressed about finances. And that's not even including your own health woes and trouble with finding reliable workers for your own home repairs.
Bummer on the changed chart symbols and continuing printing woes. I think you are on the right track - do what you want on the colors. Perhaps consider it no different than when you change colors when you use a different linen than what a pattern calls for? You've got a great color sense, it will be lovely when done.
Join the club of being backlogged and catching up....but you, dear one, have
had a few years of no real life of your own and postponed peace. Be kind to yourself and take the path of least resistance on that beautiful sampler. Your color choices are so often spot on...I would not fret it. We are experiencing a similar shortage of competent and consistent workmen. Sign of the times, I guess. This, too, shall pass. In the meantime, we will not be discouraged and keep to our own standard wherever possible, crossing the t's and dotting the i's and thumbing our nose at nonsense. Blessings~
Julia is simply lovely though she sounds like a nightmare to stitch!
Julia's colors are most pleasing ... whatever you're doing is working beautifully. So very true that the longer a stack, a room, etc sits unattended, the more we become accustomed/oblivious to it. I know from experience unfortunately. And I also know too well the agony of getting anyone to work these days. My refrigerator's light no longer comes on when you open the door (no, it's not the bulb) so it's really a guess game what's in there at this point, my fireplace isn't working properly, my roof is still leaking (I gave up on the leaking pool), I have 2 smoke alarms that are beeping annoyingly loudly every 45 seconds each because there's something wrong with them (they are hard-wired and the beeping is to tell me the battery back-up needs to be changed...which I have done repeatedly...it works sometimes for a few hours and then starts in again, and today the washer decided to die...all the water coming out the bottom so now I have a soaking wet set of sheets that will take forever to dry...and no one, I mean NO ONE calls me back even after several calls and messages. 😡 There, do you feel better about the painters?? LOL ~Robin~
