The orange of pumpkins and mums.
And the darker rust from oxidation.
The only thing I like to see during the change to chilly temps.
And pumpkin pie. Because it's that color.
Who am I kidding? I would eat it if it was chartreuse.
Have not stitched in several days. My hand needs attention and maybe an injection in the tendon that runs from inside the thumb to wrist.
Visited my friend whose home is masterfully decorated with loads of interesting pieces and warmth. Makes me doubt my sparse preference which seemed so ..... lacking, uninviting, when I came home. I see photos of the simple and sparse and I love it, but a photo doesn't convey the feeling when you enter. Need to think about it. It's lot of dusting/work/expense that a card carrying menopausal crabass may reject.
The older I get, the more anxious I feel when there is much surrounding me. I want calm, rest, ease, space in my home. For me (the introvert), that means less visual stimuli and distraction, more focus on comfort. My sister (the extrovert) is the opposite and feels hugged by filled rooms, very important to her. Maybe I should try this in one area, just for the crab of it.

Your Mums, pumpkin and greenery look very welcoming, Marly.
After seeing the fun little trees you got at HL, I want to go for the next sale...but more trees? Where the heck would I put them???
There is definitely no extra space in my home. There is no "less is more" in my life.
Hopefully your hand will feel better soon and you can get back to stitching.
Hello Marly: Love the outdoor decorations very pretty.
You have a knack for decorating, some of us like less and some like too much, its who we are, I like a middle of the road in decorating.
Have a great day.
Catherine
Your outside decor is fabulous.... Very interesting psychological analysis of sparse vs. full styles of decorating and the personalities behind the preferences. I think I have mentioned before that absolutely love the sparse look...but I cannot achieve it. I am one of those whose philosophy is "if one is good, then 100 is better" Seriously - there are just too many things that I "love" that I could never go sparse. Never ever. I'm resigned to it. But, I am the ultimate introvert and disagree about introvert vs. extrovert preferences in this regard. I think because I am an introvert, I prefer to be "hugged" by a room full of things I love than surrounded by people. because my world is lonely and empty, I don't want my house to be empty...I can't help the lonely part though. Probably makes no sense but I only know I would never be able to do sparse as much as I wish I could. ~Robin~
It is funny, because I am definitely an introvert and I can't abide by sparse. I like a lot of things around me....books, crafts, candles, quilts, photos. They make me feel homey and comfy. I do love the colors of Autumn though. I am sorry your hand is hurting. I get that sometimes and have a thumb brace that helps immensely and avoids the shots. I hope it feels better soon.
The older I get, the less I like clutter too, apart from my sewing room which is full to the brim with stitching and stuff which some folks might call clutter. If you have an entrance lobby, or hall area, you could try a table filled with seasonal stitching and a few candles or something and see how that suits you.
You have shared so many interesting pieces that you've bought or found. Would love to see them and some (not too much) color in your home.
I don't like clutter but do love a bit of color for the seasons. Love the trees that you found at HL.
Your wheelbarrow and the color is perfect, so Autumn.
I agree about the pumpkin pie.......my family and I have devoured two pumpkin rolls so far....that was in Sept.
Take care, enjoy the Fall weather/season.

Love your wheelbarrow with these autumn colors-- very welcoming!
Perhaps you can meet up somewhere in the middle and put some things you like so much in the room or where you want more warmth in a space. Wait for a month and if it doesn't feel wright, put it away or otherwise if it feels okay add another piece to it.
So sorry you cann't stitch at the moment. I often wear a brace when it hurts to much and that will help me to have less pain.
Take care and enjoy the beauty of the autumn...Truus from Holland
I look at at blogs where they decorate every inch of their home for every holiday or season. It's too much for me. Everything from the time & expense to buy and drag it home, to where the heck to store it all, and then the work putting it all up and taking it down. Oh well, that's their thing, good for them.
OTOH, with the piles of projects laying around our house, you'd think I like the cluttered look :-)
Hi Marly...your blog is the first one on my favorites.
We have a lot in common..Same age, living in our corner of pa...sjogren's and all that come with it...a love of x stitch ( and the linen issue) and the difficulty of seeing well.. sparse decorating is for me and yes feeling like a crab ass at times..lol
I have been following you for years and pray for you when your times are hard and loving
your sense of humor through it all.
I have finally done it..sent you a comment to tell you....hugs to you Marly...you make my day
Sharon
