That's how the second row ends.
Should I leave it as charted or add to complete?
Any ideas?
I came up with several thoughts, none sounded appropriate for an early sampler. I wonder if the person buying this at Goodwill after I'm gone would question but virtual reality is cool on a 1775 repro.
The dropped band below But makes me think she had wording end there, but for some reason removed the line almost entirely. There is a row of single stitches following Virtu, why would she not at least have finished that word? Curious.
But I'm not far from finishing! Sarah's Sewing Bag and the Blue House pinkeep drum weren't studied last night. Maybe this evening.
Enjoy your day!

Best laugh I've had today. I would buy it and display it proudly. Glenna
And as far as the pinkeep, substitute a Chinese spy balloon or a spaceship and see if anyone notices. Glenna
But virtue is beauty. At least that's what people used to believe. And maybe the line wasn't reworked because poor Elizabeth passed.
My thoughts were the same as Anonymous! Or some shiny new thing caught her eye.
But virtue is best. Melinda
Another old quote is "Learning is an ornament but virtue is a refuge." It's probably from a quote by Aristotle about "Learning is an ornament in prosperity, a refuge in adversity and a provision in old age." But there doesn't seem to be enough room on that piece for old Greeks.
I would not be able to leave it. Sorry, I just couldn't. I thought I recall once seeing a line from a sampler (or somewhere) that said "learning is an ornament but virtue is the only lasting beauty" ?? I'll be curious as to what you come up with. ~Robin~
I think she spelled it as it sounded to her. In 1775 they spelled things differently and not everyone had a lot of schooling in the 3 R's esp. girls. I would leave it! Jen
I've never seen that on a sampler! Weird. I don't know if I could/would leave it as is or not. Decisions, decisions....
What Robin says, sounds good to me and I think that if possible, I would stitch this quote on the sampler.
Has the pindrum only some stitching on the top of the drum?
Take care and can you tell us what you are making for Carole?
Have a peaceful weekend, Truus from Holland
