From Threads of Gold
Changes too numerous to mention, and most I've forgotten already.
Yes Robin, there is an unknown letter between r and s.
Sixty mph winds Saturday for over nine hours, trees and downed power lines started at 3pm. There are so many without power. Carole is one. It should be restored Thursday. The entire freezer and the fridge freezer are lost. They have a well so no water to bathe or flush, no heat, no appliances for meals, and her electric wheelchair batteries depleted. Very bad for them, they may need replaced which is hundreds of $$$. Stores are out of generators since so many are affected and are quite expensive anyway. My cousin bought one for $600 only to find it's too small to handle what they needed. They went by wattage instead of amps.
Rain for the next ten days contributing to our lawn swamp.
Hope all is well. Be safe.

Terrible news! The hits keep coming, enough already! You and your family deserve some smooth sailing...like 10 years worth! Watched the news tonight and was so saddened to see the destruction from the tornadoes in Mississippi and the senseless and tragic school shooting. It seems like simpler happier times have passed and our world is so complicated and sad now. Stitching is a respite from troubles and you have another beautiful sampler to be proud of and admire. Hope you are all able to navigate this week somewhat successfully.
Sixty mph winds for nine hours would drive me over the edge. We get them here too but not for nine hours and not sixty mph. So sorry about all Carole's family is going through from that wind storm. No power until Thursday is tough. I hope they're wrong and it's restored well before then. Especially since it's still so cold and they need heat. The weather has been so strange and especially harsh these past couple of years. Everything is so weird and different lately and that includes the weather.
Oh Crap on the weather, and power woes! I hope the wheelchair batteries aren't damaged too badly.
One definitely needs to pay attention to the current on generators, go bigger than you think you need. Refrigerator & freezer motors need more on start-up than while running. And then you can't just stuff them in the corner of the garage and ignore them until needed either. They do need maintenance and run occasionally so they work when needed.
At least Elizabeth looks good! I like your changes. That unknown letter - my guess it is a long S, a letter that disappeared from our alphabet at the end of the 1700s.
Elizabeth Roberts is a beauty, Marly. Praying for the needs of Carole and her home and family.
The letter between the r and the s is called a “long s”. You can find a good explanation in Wikipedia
Dratz.... it has simply got to get better....but Elizabeth could not be
better with all your great color choices and beautiful workwomanship...
Hope Carole's circumstances resolve earlier than expected... Chin up.
Oh, that was quite a storm wasn't it, Marly? We lost power, but only for a couple hours. I'm so sorry to hear about Carole being out of power for so long. There were trees down all over the neighborhood so I'm not surprised it is taking a while to get the power back. I sure hope her wheelchair batteries come through this mess intact.
Meanwhile--your stitching is gorgeous! Really love this one even with the mystery letter :)
Hang in there! ♥
Hopefully Carole's power has been restored sooner rather than later.
The winds were scary here in northern Ohio, but nothing compared to what you have described.
Lovin' Elizabeth!
EEEK...I think you know how extra cranky wind makes me. (Yes, I've become permanently cranky because Nod is unusually windy.) Sorry to read of Carole's power loss. We lose it routinely here and if it doesn't come back on within 10 minutes, we know it's going to be days. The worst was over Christmas when we lost it for 4+ days. It was awful - so incredibly cold and we couldn't just go to a hotel as we had a dog and 2 cats and no hotel here would allow them. Cats could have handled being here with daily checks..but dog, no. Anyway, that was the last time - we invested in a back-up generator. Beaucoup bucks, but so very worth it. Elizabeth is fabulous - what a quick stitcher you are to fill in those motifs and other things so quickly. Interesting about the long s.... I was aware of other changes in our alphabet, but have never heard of the long s. Thanks Gail! ~Robin~ (PS...I have blueprints for an ark I had intended on building once upon a time - would you like?)
Hope that the power will be back before Thursday for Carole.
Your Elizabeth is beautiful and love the color changes you have made.
Take care and lots of love, Truus from Holland
Oh my, such terrible damage. We are supposedly going to experience the same situation this weekend. The weather is so unpredictable these days. I hope Carole gets service before tomorrow! Such a complicated situation you have there.
Because we are in a rather protected valley here, our damage was limited to downed branches. A few years ago we invested in a whole house generator after losing a freezer full of products. It has done its work well since we live in the woods and often lose power.
Elizabeth is beautiful. You are an amazing stitcher!
I knew about the long S. Do you know when the reverse P first came to be by chance and when samplers might have stopped using that? I ask because I just purchased a very old sampler with the reverse P on it, but no date. Have always loved your samplers. Janice
