Louisa

Was browsing for no reason and happened upon this ...

Louisa Mollett 1875 from Samplers Forever.

Wow.  Look at that border.  The flowers.  The tree.  The birds.

And another one that I do not care for on a light linen.  Many originals are shown on dark linens (from aging?) and when stitched today on a lighter ground, I don't care for them.  Why?  Does that make them look like a recent design, too modern, too clean?  Maybe.

I think Louisa was released years ago, not sure, but thought I would share in case you missed her too.

My mojo was in high gear on those smaller projects and these larger picks are causing the slowdown.  I always remember Glenna's words ... indecision=paralysis.   Sarah is quite a bit of stitching and the uncertainty of my fabric choice is causing reluctance to stitch.  So I will set aside these two gals and go back to a small.   If I stall too long, my battery dies.

Still paralyzed with indecision after all these years....LOL. I read you all the time, by the way. Many best wishes in your stitching, your own challenges (who knew our bodies would be such traitors--but it's clear you still have all your marbles) and your sis. Glenna

I know exactly what you mean about indecision. I made the body of the 'Dear Jane Quilt' several years ago but didn't like the border. I kept questioning myself...am I stitching to prove I can do it or because I really like it. After 8 years of storing this quilt, I made a lovely swag border with a star between each swag. Happy with the result, I then hand quilted the quilt.
I'm now enjoying cross stitching but only finish 2 large samplers a year. My fill ins are ornaments, drums, and smalls. I am a monogamist stitcher. Otherwise I get too overwhelmed.

That's a mighty big one! I'm still trying to finish Ellen Harrison and debating which large sampler to stitch next. Too many choices. And, I still need new/more fabric.

It's not indecision that's keeping me from stitching, it's working up the courage. I'm *still* avoiding stitching on 40 count for a sampler, concerned about being able to see what I'm doing. And there's the stumpwork casket, for a first stumpwork project. But I am finally making progress on a quilt that's been on the frame while I waffled about with indecision for nearly a year on how to quilt it. At least there have been smaller projects done while trying to overcome the lack of courage issues.

At least once the linen is chosen, you have no qualms on changing the threads to please yourself. Louisa Mollett is very interesting.

You already know I would say stick with the small samplers or sampler like stitches. While I enjoy looking at the bigger girls, I don't want to stitch them.

Forgot to ask - did all go well and the work at Carole's is finished?

Hope your appointments are going well. I also don't like many of them in one week and did hope this year would have not one ,but had already a few and still have one next week.
The flowers and birds of this sampler are beautiful. The borders are very pretty, but I don't like all the different borders in one sampler.
Only stitching small sampler otherwise they will not finished because I start a new sampler or drum or other stitching.
Take care and stay save, Truus from Holland

Please keep your battery charged, you provide an incentive even if you don't know it! Anyway, IMO, from what I have read the antique samplers are often dark from age, sunlight, smoke, and plain old dirt. When the frame backs are removed and/or the lacing on the mounting boards are removed, the linen and the thread colors are much more intense on the back of the piece. I think I am so enamored of the dark colors that I am used to those and the lighter colors just don't seem to meld with my understanding of an antique reproduction sampler. Or I'm just nuts. Not sure which.
