I am liking the idea of a stitchery displayed on the inside of an opened lid with other goodies in the box. I have a smaller one from HL that is hinged, perfect for a small sampler or other work. Changing the box contents and stitchery for each season would be a fun project.
The large box I showed was from Mom's stainless flatware that we use daily, my sister has my older set. This is Mom's silverplate exactly as she stored it. Bagged with pieces of polishing cloth in each and it prevented tarnishing for decades. I don't remember when she last used it.
My friend has had such a difficult time with her mom's house and contents after she passed. I asked her ... if your mom came into extra funds, would she have kept these items? Or would she have had no problem selling house, furniture, tchotchkes and getting new. I could see the tension release in her face. Except for the sentimental items, she knew her mom would have left most behind. It helped her resolve the guilt of donating so much. Our parents would have been over 100 now, and that generation went through a lot. They held on to everything except when offering to someone else needing help. It wasn't the dishes or tablecloths that were important to Mom, it was the pearl collar and necklace that was her mother's treasure, now mine. Personal things.
Hawaiian sliders with turkey and swiss today. Good grief do I love these babies. Ham and swiss just as good, so many options.
Enjoy your weekend friends. Be safe!

I have so much china and crystal, mine, my mothers and my grandmothers and I love it. It makes me so sad that nobody will want it. The same goes for all of my stitched projects. 😪
Yes, every family is different. There were few tings passed down on either side of my family and what there was wasn't anything anyone else would consider such. So the few things there are...marred and sad-looking, are precious to me. Can't wait to see your finish...it will be a crowing touch I'm sure. ~Robin~
Morning. It's been awhile - have had some medical issues that slowed me down, plus being OLD doesn't help. Had to agree with you - I've made the little Hawaiian Bread sandwiches and taken to a couple of get togethers this summer.....everyone LOVED them. Easy and delicious. I love your idea of putting a stitching inside your silverware box - you're so inventive.
Hope you and family enjoy the coming fall season and are healthy and happy and safe. ENJOY

What a lovely idea to do with that box for a display with the little sampler in the lid and other stitching items in it.
Take care, Truus from Holland
Your sandwiches look delicious, Marly.
My mom, too, was a product of the depression and she was close to being a hoarder. I have such a hard time getting rid of anything that belonged to her. Sadly no one in the family is interested in anything...not even my grandma's trunk she emigrated to the country with or her rocker. It makes me so sad.
I love your thoughts on giving things away. When we sold our parents' antiques, there were so many things I wanted; but we had to pay the estate for everything. I always thought that if I found any of their things, I would buy them immediately. Several years later, my aunt is downsizing; and I was asked if I wanted anything that my parents owned that she had purchased. I realized time changes things. I don't want those treasures now because I've learned to love the memories instead.
Those sandwiches rock, don't they??
Those pearls are a true treasure. You are blessed to have them.
You are correct. None of the kids these days want the china.
