This is very difficult on 36 count Ale. The threads whether a subtle change or as charted, seem to disappear into the weave. So many errors over one or three holes instead of two. And running the tail on the back is next to impossible. To add to the frustration, a main color (371) is ghosting. My eyes have been terrible for a week, I'm sure contributing to my problem.
So do I continue to struggle? Or put it aside for a while? Start over on another fabric?
I will list the 40 count linen pieces soon.
In the meantime .....
Dominic's Apple Fritter bites
Peel, core and slice stem to bottom into six pieces (+/-)
Dip into batter, coating completely
Pan fry in small amount of oil (not olive oil), turn as needed to brown and cook apple
Dust with powdered sugar while warm.

I feel your frustration with the colors. The whole thing would have been tossed across the room. I am not a fan of colors blending into the fabric.
I like the 422. It shows a bit better, still very subtle.
The apple fritters sound yummy, but dangerous. I can see myself mindlessly munching on one after the other and suddenly realizing I ate them all.
I hope your eyes give you a break and soon!
I know it's no comfort, but I am feeling your pain. I'm working on a sampler SAL and one color that is used frequently throughout is giving me fits (612). I swapped it out for 611 in some places and that looks too similar to another color used. So, as of now, I have a mismash but have come too far for the lighter solution. Wishing you luck. ~Robin~
Marly: Sometimes colors drive me nuts.
I know you will find the right choice you have a talent for doing so, but then again if you get the design finished it may all look different.
I am so sorry you are having eye problems I hope it goes away soon.
Thank-you for the recipe.
Hugs

That does look like the fabric would be hard to stitch on, Marly. I guess maybe take a break from it and revisit it? Oh, those apple fritters sound so tasty--I can't remember the last time I fried anything, but I may make an exception for those! Take care now ♥
So sorry to hear that your eyes are bad again. Perhaps you leave this sampler for a while and making a small one with a higher count of fabric. In between you can decide which color you can use for the house without problems to see.
Your recipe sounds tasty!

the 422 looks better to me...but then again, I love the ;old' look that fading thread colors can add to a project...lol
I'm no help! hahahaha

I also love the old, faded, colors. I also love higher count fabrics - but I use a magnifier with a booster....LOL
What pattern is this? I don't recognize it.
