Why can't we just have Hawaiian sliders with the buttery Worcestershire and poppy seeds? Made with turkey and swiss, ham and swiss, roast beef with sauteed peppers and onions, or turkey topped with stuffing and cranberries? Get a bigger slider bun! Salad of crisp lettuce topped with sliced pears, pickled beets, and blue cheese?
Carole wants the full blown Thanksgiving dinner because it is her son's favorite meal.
We started following Natalie's method (she has over 15 guests every year) of roasting the bird (or breast) the night before. Cool completely. Slice. Pour College Inn turkey broth over all and leave an inch of broth in the dish. Turkey day, she sets it out for about 30 minutes, then into a 225 - 250 degree oven tightly covered with foil for an hour or until hot. Perfect, juicy, tender. I never believed her until we finally tried it. And the other two sides made the night before.... the b.e.s.t.

Best green bean casserole ever
So except for mashed potatoes and gravy, the stuffing can also be made days before. My sister makes one with sausage bits and it is so fricking good. Little muffin cups, easy to freeze leftovers (sure there are), no bird cavity needed.

A Thanksgiving meal is one of my very favorites but I haven't enjoyed one for years. The last two I made no one else ended up coming so I said no more...and no more it has been. Maybe I will make myself a babka and eat the whole dang thing in one sitting. ~Robin~
You talked yourself in to a full blown Thanksgiving feast to make Carole happy.
You are a wonderful sister!
I will hunt up my recipe for make a day ahead mashed potatoes that are very yummy. I make them every Christmas so I don’t have to deal with potatoes on Christmas Day.
I don't think I've heard of making the bird the day before and reheating in broth.
You still have to deal with the making but at least not the day of when there's lots of last minute things to do. I'm pretty sure I've made the mash potatoes the day before, reheated in the microwave.
OTOH, too much made ahead means the headache of finding room in the refrigerator?
Sounds delicious! We will be going to Mailing's parents for the day. Probably Mailing will cook the turkey over there. I'll make a pumpkin pie and two kinds of cranberry relish - one a relish and one more of a chutney. Both have been requested. I may make something else, not sure. Will talk with the kids and figure it out. They should be back hoome on the 20th!!
Sounds like a good plan!
Sounds good to me! I have been making this dinner for 44 years now. Complete with 4 home made pies. I do not like to cook, but it always falls to me and everyone seems to enjoy it. I’d rather be stitching and eat a Chick Fil A. One question. Do you slice the Turkey after it cools and then place it in a pan with the broth to reheat?
Enjoy the holiday and time with your sister. We never know what the next year will bring. Happy stitching and than you for you free charts and posts.
