Hi folks.
I found the Cosmo floss with an old DMC wool skein. And here's the result of comparing to the dmc black.
The feel is nicer, the black is sharper. Not a noticeable difference in the completed stitching on two letters, but the Cosmo seems smoother with less fuzz.
The fraying is minimal with Cosmo, compare the tails of the two. My dmc has been separating/fraying quite often.
Overall, it seems smoother, more consistent, stronger. Cosmo is made in Japan, 100% cotton, by Lecien Corporation. I have all dmc colors and won't be replacing them, but may order certain colors for specific projects. Not a big difference really, but I will continue testing this black skein (next project has a black hat) since this one was quite limited.
The fill in will be a chore for me. But will complete Hannah today.
Have a good day. Be safe.

Have you ever tried waxing your thread? Just pure beeswax, nothing else. A very little goes a long way. Kim on String-or-nothing has a very timely mention of using it right now. It is the bomb for controlling fuzz.
I have always found DMC black to be inconsistent (thick - thin) and it frays and is fuzzy compared to their other colors. I always wondered if it had to do with the dyes used to achieve black. Amanda's suggestion of using wax might be helpful. Ordinarily I do not use wax on cotton floss.

I've never used Cosmo thread and, like you, don't see any real difference in the final stitching...but, yeah, I get the fraying and other things previously discussed with dmc. Until Amanda mentioned it, I totally forgot that I do wax my floss...with beeswax, but more often with Thread Magic. I find it strengthens the floss and helps prevent knotting. Worth giving it a whirl sometime. ~Robin~
This thread looks good and I don't see a difference between the color or so.
Your sampler is looking good and very pretty.
Take care, Truus from Holland
I do like Cosmo thread very much. I had bought a random lot of Cosmo thread off of ebay because I loved one particular red color they showed. I had never heard of Cosmo floss so it was a leap to buy 144 skeins of random colors including many variegated colors. I really like the floss and used their blacks instead of DMC. I agree with your assessment of the DMC black. I have now bought many different colors of Cosmo especially the reds because the floss stitches so nicely.
I was going to ask about beeswax too. I also saw Kim's post on her String-or-Nothing blog. I've never done that. Yet.
Interesting about the difference between DMC and Cosmo. I wonder where Anchor or Sullivan brands sits on the fuzzy scale these days?
