Even before the two color buds are added, this is way too distracting for me.
I wanted to match size of Julia's companion piece that I stitched and its Ale linen color. The chart photo is very different because of its lighter and softer look overall, not as fussy as mine.
One of the two charted colors for the bud's center is stitched in four at the bottom left corner. But maybe reducing that sharp contrast would calm the racket?
These three alternatives are used in the body, I'm leaning toward #2. The option to follow the chart and alternate two light threads for the bud's center would not be a good idea.
Too lazy to work this in my Paint program, which is always a great help, but this isn't a major issue. Any of the three will work and close this project.
I've pre-ordered just a few 2024 show charts, am tiring of the highly mottled linens (and new prices). Minimal aging and solid colors allow more focus on the stitching, less background chatter. I guess I am craving simplicity and peace!
I hope you have a sweet Sunday.

Your desire for simplicity and peace in your stitching reflects in the way you decorate your lovely home.
I always enjoy a visit to your blog. I’m grateful you keep writing to us.
I am not a fan of all of the dark mottled fabric out there either. Janice
I agree that the very light flower centres don't look right, I would go for option 2 or 3 which are much more in keeping with the rest of the sampler. I never buy overdyed fabric, I think it detracts too much from the stitching. You could always ask if there is anyone who would stitch the border for you. I would offer but I'm in the UK.
The left centres of the flowers are too bright -- I agree with you. But I for myself would choose nr 1 as an option more than the others.
You will find a solution as always.
Take care, Truus from Holland
I strongly dislike the mottled dark fabric too. I just want plain light linen.
I like either 2 or 3 for the flower centers. One is too stark in my eye. Happy Monday, Marly!
Yes, I agree that the original charted color is too bright...I like your choice of 3. I still hold a fondness for mottled linens...perhaps it's because I don't do many really large pieces....or, more likely, because that's basically what my stash is full of and I am telling myself that so I don't feel completely awful?? ~Robin~
for me, simple is always best ~ :)
