Since this will be finished into some sort of bag/pouch (it looks medieval to me), it needs more length and omitting the numeric row is a bad idea. So I charted the date 1782 (from the history) in place of the numbers.
Adding a strip of leather to the bottom of this bag is being considered.
As of now, the leather strip would be beneath the pickets, no bottom border, should result in a good length.
But maybe a wide ornate frame would be better? Hmmm.

Marly, once again, you nailed it!! I wish I could think out of the box!! I spent a good part of the weekend frogging a sampler I started last weekend, because I started it in the wrong direction on the linen!! Yikes!! It was either toss it, or start over!! To add the year is what I would do,but it is not my piece of artwork.
The first picture with the wide borders around the sampler is also my favorite. But as always the way you are finishing your stitching is stunning and brilliant so don't listen to me!!! lol
