Hi folks. It's June. Any day now, we will be able to put away the heavy jackets, boots for the mud, and shut off the furnace.
I wanted to mention this product by Rubbermaid (FreshWorks) for storing veggies and fruits. Several sizes and the only way I've found to keep them fresh for days. Strawberries never last for me and the vinegar bath and other methods failed. I tried the blue apple but it didn't really work as well.
Peppers, lettuce, spinach, any veggie. The first rule is to not wash any item until use, unless dirty from the garden. If storing a longer time, I dry the inside of the container from the humidity produced when excessive. Peppers (unwashed) last quite a while.
The berries are the opposite of most regarding humidity which rots them quickly. I remove from packaging, dry off if wet, and set one or two layers in these containers. A paper towel or similar is laid over to absorb any moisture from the container.
This is the bottom layer that I moved to a smaller container and added the fresh lettuce to the larger one. Look at them! It's been six days. Keeping them dry works!
And since I make this every morning and sometimes for an evening treat, I'm happy to have found a storage solution.

Interesting product. May have to check it out.
I bet it feels WONDERFUL to have the painting done.
June…feels more like April. Will need to put a jacket over my sweatshirt. I have to get this darn mulch spread that has been sitting in my driveway for a month 😫
Rugs and Pugs
I'll have to check out that berry keeper. It would make a great gift for my DIL as Mia loves berries of any and all kind. I'm glad you're done with your painting. Want to tackle a lake house??? (Bring hubby as there's some finish work to be done as well.) I envy your cutting board niche. I can never seem to find the right place for them. Happy June....time is going way to fast for me.
Glad the painting is finished Marly. What a chore! June 2nd and I'm sitting in my office shivering (I will NOT turn the heat on). Thanks for the 2 links - very inspiring stitching.
I found keeping fruit & veg dry in the frig works too. I do wash a whole head of lettuce even tho I don't use it all at once. Then I wrap it in a linen dish towel and return to the frig. That seems to work for me. Tired of throwing out or trying to eat all at once. That treat looks delicious - I've got to try it.
I've looked at those containers and left them on the shelf. I thought it would be yet another container that doesn't live up to expectations. Now I may get one since it's gotten your seal of approval. Strawberries & Nutella on toast - Yum any time of day.
WooHoo! on the painting being done, especially that cutting board slot. I hope your fingers recover soon.
Those containers are definitely something I could use here, Marly--thanks for the tip! I'm glad your painting is done--want to come down and paint my hallway :) Yes! The heat came on again this morning and I said to my husband--"This is ridiculous! It's June 2nd!" Honestly, I don't ever remember a longer more dreary rainy May... Here's to a better June!
