Hi to everyone on a sad day for me. Summer's over. September starts the fall season for me even if the temps are still high, which they are today. I'm taking advantage of the warmth, and my swings. There's something about that slow steady movement that calms the nerves and relieves the stress. It does it for babies, and carries through to elderly folks. My mom and dad always had a backyard swing, the first being held by a stand made from shiny black pipes. The last was a wooden stand with that same black swing, now hanging in my garage. It calmed mom and put dad to sleep. They would bundle up even when it was cold and enjoy the soothing motion. I've found that it does the same for me.
The single swing we had built for mom when she lived here, is purposely high enough for my feet to swing free. It starts with a slow but deliberate motion and as the stress melts away, I swing as high as the kids on playgrounds. Really high. It's so much fun, and I always end in a upbeat mood. When I'm not reaching for the sky, I stitch here.
I have hanging hooks that I use to hold necessities, and the handle installed for mom to lift herself off the swing will always be in place to hang my scissors. The big swing is another stitching spot and offers more room, but my favorite is mom's. So today is when I realize there won't be many more stitching afternoons in my favorite spots.
My doe is still coming for bread several times a day and her fawns are losing their spots. She came one night about midnight and scared the heck out of me when I saw a figure moving outside the window!
I hope if any one of you or your loved ones are affected by the flooding, that you find relief and help quickly. Thank you again for visiting with me, and welcome to new followers. I hope there's enough to keep all of you interested, entertained, or inspired. I gain inspiration and the most wonderful finishing ideas, help and instruction, information and new products, or just awesome photos from visiting yours. And, of course, stash enabling. So to all of you stitching bloggers, thank you. Stay safe, enjoy the holiday weekend, talk to you soon.

Your swings and yard are so pretty, Marly! Both spots look like great stitching spots. I hope your wrist feels better soon.
Oh Marly, just reading your post about swinging makes me happy! Your swinging/stitching spots look lovely!
I agree with you about the end of August means the end of summer. I know here in western PA we'll have some nice warm temps in September, but the days are getting shorter, the school buses are on the roads, and the turn of the calendar means it's closer to Fall than Summer. Never want to let go!
Hope you can find out what is wrong with your wrist and get it on the mend ... pain while stitching ... not good.
Hi, Marly, I know what you mean about swinging. I have an old swing similar to yours on the side porch, and I can spend hours there just swinging away watching the birds and butterflies in the garden.
You and I are completely opposite on weather, though. I hate heat and can't wait for fall and winter! Love the new sampler you started, I need to go back through my SANQ's and look for it, that verse is one of my favorites.
Neat idea hanging the scissors! I use gardening scissors (just cheapy discount store ones) for most of my deadheading in the garden, and I'm ALWAYS
losing them.
Take care,
Melinda
Hi Marly, love your beautiful stitching spot. It looks like the perfect spot.
Today is the first day of Spring here, yay. But I quite understand your feelings about the end of your Summer.
I totally know what you mean about wrist pain. Years ago, I fell and broke my wrist and had to have it operated on. It still causes problems sometimes. When it does play up I use one of these and it does help as I don't have to hold anything with my left hand http://www.amazon.com/Embroidery-Lap-Frame-Sit-On-Style/dp/B001C22SBO Just used this link so that you could see what I am talking about - Sandra.
Love your swing spots! I could spend the entire day in a swing! Hard to believe summer is coming to a close. Fall is my favorite--love those cool mornings and evenings! The frame you chose for Eunice is lovely! The glass debate was fun--who really knows. Hope you have a nice transitional weekend!

Have a great week end sitting in the swing!!!
Hi Marly! I love your swings. I may have to make my husband put up one for us. We have the "swing tree" in our back yard where we had a swing when our sone was young -- time to ressurect it I'm thinking. Love the pic of Bud!!!
Your stitching is great. Your Bud is priceless. Aren't cats interesting creatures?
Hi Marly, sorry your wrist isn't improving. I hope they zero in on what the problem is. I feel the same way about swings as you--some of my happiest childhood memories are of soaring through the sky on a swing in grade school or at Stoneboro Fair and Canfield Fair. I would just close my eyes and enjoy the rush of the wind. I used to force,oops...I mean entice my boys onto the fair swings, but they never seemed to enjoy them as much as me...I could tell by the dirty looks I got after they got off the ride. Bud sure seems to like that box! Thanks for helping connect Patty G. and me!! :) --Jan
Your swing looks like the perfect place to stitch, Marly. I have a swing on my front porch, but it's been almost unbearably hot all summer so I've hardly used it... I know what you mean about totally relaxing in it though...
What a shame that your wrist is still causing problems--at least you're able to stitch a bit! Hope you enjoy a restful weekend.
Give Mr. Bud a pat for me--what a sweetie!
Hoped you had a great day swinging and stitching. Love the handle for your scissors. I bet you have great memories of your mom setting in her swing chair.
I love a porch swing too.
Backyard swings are great. We never set ours up this year since I didn't get around to recovering the cushion. Maybe for next summer?
I hope you can get some answers about your wrist. Not to discourage you, but I developed tendinitis in my shoulder a year ago July, and only now is it very, very slowly getting better. Then I got tendinitis in my elbow, but I started wearing a brace early and it's helping. (I have fibromyalgia, which causes a lot of problems with ligaments and tendons.) This has put a damper on my stitching. :(
That cat is too funny!
Marly, I sure hope you get some relief for your wrist real soon.....nagging aches and pain are a bummer. You might try looking into one of Kaye's frames. I use one (but it either sits on the arms of my rocking chair or in my lap,but a friend of mine always sits hers on a table. Love your swings!
The swings look so wonderful Marly.I hope that you have lots of warm fall days to enjoy stitching out there.
I love your new sampler start. I am sorry to hear that your wrist is not improving.
Hugs to you and Bud.
Hi Marly,
So sorry your wrist is still hurting. Hope this will be remedied soon. Your stitching swing looks so inviting! What a wonderful spot to stitch and de-stress.
Enjoy your weekend,
Robyn
I can see why that's your favorite spot to stitch. Sure hope that pain goes away for you! Have a great weekend!
ooOoo Bud!♥
I am so sorry your wrist continues to trouble you. You are your own best advocate! I have learned that with all these doctors. I am praying for you.
I envy you and your swings. Since I have been on my meds for my hip, I cannot swing. It makes me positively dizzy and sick. I really used to enjoy a good playground swing.=)
Marly, what a peaceful spot for stitching and dreaming! I'm so glad you have such a restful spot for yourself.
Hope your wrist retruns to normal very soon - there's just too much fun to be had each day.
I think you've inspired me to get a swing! lol! Looks to be such a relaxing place to sit and stitch... and swinging sure can stir up a breeze when it's warm! :-) Love the pic of Bud!
Your yard looks beautiful! I love swings as well. If we stay here I plan on having one put on one of the porches. Mary is beautiful & thank you for the link to the blog ... I have become a follower : )
Great post from beginning (swings) to end (cat in box).
p.s. My cat does the same thing.
Paula
Between the cat in the box and me falling over laughing at your true creativity with the swing and your stitching supplies....You made my day with this post,,,,YGG
Your swings look so inviting. I wish for you many more sunny, warm fall days for stitching, as well as a healed wrist to make stitching easier.
Bud is adorable.
Lovely post Marly, I enjoyed reading your swing story! Sorry to hear your wrist is not the way it should be, for needleworkers a nightmare, but good to hear you persevere! Like your sampler a lot!
Mr Bud looks comfy in his box. Have a good week!
OOOOhhhh....I love me a swing. Yours are beautiful - and what sweet memories to have your mum's. We have a teeny, tiny porch with not even enough room for a chair, but on the very end I have a simple swing (two ropes and a board) and I loved it....until DH (and no, the "D" isn't for "dear" this time) stacked firewood in front of it. Boo Hoo. I'm going through swing withdrawal. (Think Bud will let me borrow his pouting box for a bit???) ;o) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
