Hello people! My weekend is starting with bad coffee and lots of sunshine. One out of two ain't bad. Hope your odds are better.
Pinkeeps. We all stitch them - do you use them? Are you afraid to stick needles into your beautiful stitching for fear of splitting a linen thread? I use my new one and my little box lid with Nan's design that I did a while back.
Both are 28 count and with the thicker threads being spaced further, I didn't think it would matter.
Bingo! Right on target. If I made it as a pinkeep, I guess this is to be expected. Do you ever stitch a design for this purpose, or do you display as such and not use it? If you've used a 35 count tight weave, your chances of splitting would be greater, right? Just curious.
My progress on Eliza is very slow because I've been very tired after scrubbing screens and windows, plus I'm still throwing things out. Linen closet and clothes closet. You have to know this is hard for a person who is indecisive, but instead of thinking about the item, I toss and don't look back. It's the only way and it's working.
My next color was 351 and I removed the letters after seeing it in place. The brights are growing on me, but this one was like a nerve conduction test. So I decided to use the 351 that I dipped in a speck of gray dye. Pretty isn't it? Some floss took the gray with one quick dip and others, barely a change. This was a quick dipper.

Ok, that's funny. I never even thought about splitting a thread or anything like that. lol! I admit though that I don't tend to use stitched pinkeeps. I don't tend to use pincushions much at all. I just put my pins back in their boxes. lolol! Boring plastic boxes. Oh well. Love your pinkeeps though. Eliza is pretty too. I do like the floss color better on 351 after the dipping. Much better. That color was a bit electric. lol!
Hi Marly, I, too, never thought about splitting a thread...but I don't really use pincushions or pinkeeps either...but I do display them. Love the dipped floss -- much better! Have a great weekend.

Sunny here in northern Ohio and I'm lovin' it but should be outside working and not on this damned machine :)
I never get anything "finished". I've got lots that need framing or sewn. Perhaps in my next life I'll do better...sigh.
Like the toned down floss MUCH better.

The love the new 351 color you created for your sampler.
Yes. I have feared messing up the stitches... so I have not used any of my stitched pinkeeps to actually hold pins... lol! Instead I have a roll of wool that has been needle felted that I use for pins. Looks like I should get me a bottle of grey dye too... your trick muted that thread just right....
Yes I do use pin keeps and ruin the stitching, but that will be nice for the next user in 50 years time! Love yours too;)

I've never made a pinkeep, but I was given one - my first - as a gift last week. I thought 'how civilised'!
Bad coffee is no way to start the day. Pack up your stitching and get yourself somewhere with great coffee. You and your stitching are worth it!
I don't use a pinkeep - I do use one of those magnetic ones but I put it on my magnetic board not my stitching. I have always wnted to make one of those rectangle ones! Love yours!
I've made a couple pin keeps but I can't get myself to stick pins in them for some odd reason. I like your idea of dipped floss and will have to try it. I want to stitch a sampler that was popular back in the 80's but you can imagine what those colors look like. I think that a quick dunk in dye will be perfect to tone them down.
I've stitched but never actually finished a pinkeep so I can't say whether I'd use them or not. My guess is no, I'd probably just use them as dust catchers. 351 is a very bright color, I like the dipped version much better for the sampler.
I love little stitched pin keeps and used them for years UNTIL my one cat MAUDE ate a needle with 12 inches of floss. Cost me almost $500 for the surg. but I did get the needle and floss back!!!! LOL No damage to her luckily. Not they are just bowl fillers!
I like your dipped version of 351 much better than the original! Both of your pinkeeps are gorgeous; mine tend to be more decorative in nature or basket fillers! I tend to stick my pins back in the plastic box.

I made a couple of them and keep them displayed in my craft room, but don't put pins in them. I never thought of why I don't, but I guess it's because I have other pincushions. Your pinkeeps are lovely!

I display most of my pinkeeps. I have a few with strategically place counting pins in them. ;)

I've really got to get me some of that gray dye ... I really like the effect it produces! Pinkeeps ... I just use my for display, not because I'm afraid of using them, I just don't want to : ) I applaud you on throwing things out. I never thought about splitting a thread but have thought about the amount of dust they collect--mine go through seasonal rotation of being displayed.

I love the floss dipped in the gray. I don't have the courage to dye my threads, lol.
I tend to leave my pinkeeps as decorations more than keeping pins. I'm afraid I'll ruin the stitching.

Love your dipped floss, I am definitely going to have to try that.I have designated pin keeps, but the ones I have done cross stitch on I just keep for display.I also had the bad experience of one of my cats getting one of my needles, luckily it just stuck in the roof of her mouth so the vet had no trouble getting it out. Now I have a little pin keep that I glued into an old eye glass case and I keep all my needles in it with the lid closed. Hope your coffee is better tomorrow.

I keep most of my pin keeps for show and use two old ones , and they have taken a few pins I can tell you, and are they marked no, but I bet if I used a new one it would. By the way I love your ones.

Well, I do display them and some have pins in them but for the post part they are decorative.
