Play it again Sam

Jeanne, who I thought was overseas, is from the blog Willow Tree Stitcher and lives in the US.  She chose the verse so I added 1776 and the samplers for the next giveaway.  Why am I giving them away?  I don't know.  I guess I am trying to have less and less small items around, I'm tired of them, I have nothing else to offer, and it's my birth month.  I so appreciate all of you for your friendship and encouragement, care and kindness, and my printer still isn't doing labels properly so I have no boxes.  I don't express my feelings often enough to let you know how much you all mean to me.  I'm not a huggy kissy touchy feely person.  In fact, I think the Better-than-Sex cake IS better than sex, much to my husband's disappointment.  Did he really think it would last forever?

I was going to add the flag to the group and then I saw the back with the Flanders Field poem.  Started bawling again!  I watched the History channel's D-Day special and I can't explain what gets to me about this group of young men from WWII, but I was crying for days.  Just the mention of that beach and really, anything related to soldiers from that time, and my emotions become raw.  And they didn't tell their stories or even talk about it until decades later.

I decided to not use the same entries because maybe the pear you would like has been chosen and you're not interested in any others.  So if you don't mind, I will have a separate post and you will have to enter each time if your choice is still standing.  I think having you choose is better than listing each separately.  At least that's what I think today.

Leave your initials or name in your comment if you want to choose one of the above five.   Drawing will be Sunday night (6/15) at 8pm EST.  Holy crap.  Half of June is gone!!!  What happened?

When I think of the untold number that sacrificed their lives or lived with bodies maimed, it truly makes me sick what is happening with this country at the present. Sorry, had to vent, I will shut up now. Please do enter me for a chance to win, love each and every one of the pears!

Congrats, Jeanne.... and thank you
Marly, for these extra chances...

We may never know the full toll of
what war has demanded of our young
men and women, but we can honor them with love and care whether they reach out for help or not. It
should be a given...I now descend my soapbox, as well.....

Marly, I totally agree with you! Just where exactly has June gone already?! I have a soft spot for the WWII vets too. I've stood on Normandy beach, talk about a big ole ugly Oprah cry. Oh yeah!

Congrats to Jeanne!
Throw my name in the hat again too please.
I feel the same also.
My FIL lived at the VA home in WI for 10 years.
Sometimes it breaks your heart to see some of them and wonder what their story is.
The burial ceremony when he passed away last year really touched me.
The color guards, the salutes by his comrads, the salute of gun shots for him made me just cry out loud.

I love your pears! They are so cute! My dad was a veteran of WWII. He made it through the war earning the Purple Heart, but he was never the same when he returned home. Sadly we lost him at the young age of 49. I still miss him. His first and only grandson was born the day after he died. I can't watch any of the documentaries without crying, so I just avoid them. It's very upsetting to know what those men went through.
Anyhow, didn't mean to ramble, but wanted to enter your drawing.
Thank you! Phyllis

Count me in. I too, watched the History Channel show on D-Day, it makes me sad to think about all the brave young men who fought that bloody battle and what they went through. My father and his brother both served in WWII, I wished I knew more about his service. He and his brothers are all deceased now so it's too late. Enjoy your blog.

Oh you sweet generous lady, I'd love to have my name thrown into the hat again for one of your lovely pears!
I've been scanning letters for my family that my Dad's eldest brother, Gerry, wrote home while he was overseas during WWII. He was killed in France in August of 1944; he was 22 years old. The letters are so bittersweet; wonderful to read his words written in his own hand but every reference that he makes to 'coming home' or 'after the war' tears your heart out. So many, many young men, gone much too soon. Thanks as always for your generosity Marly, Deb

Add my name to the "I want to win list" I know what you mean about giving things away. I gave one of my daughters a beautiful large old wooden bowl, that I loved. I just got tired of trying to find a place for it , i have other bowls for center of table, it just ended stuck under something else. It deserved pride of place and now it does, along with the other treenware charger I gave to her.
