Hello people. I got quite a few emails regarding Squeak so I thought I would post. He's no better. A few mouthfuls of food and that's it. I've tried tuna and several varieties of soft food, nothing. He shakes his head and I'm wondering if there is a mouth problem. I can barely touch him let alone open his mouth. Mark thinks they poisoned him but I don't. I just followed him around the house with bowls of vitamin spiked cream, tuna, and catnip treats, but he is not interested. Our mobile vet may work with a feral, but how can I have him here on a certain day at a certain time?

Nothing else I can do. My brother has trapped and taken ferals to the vet when they are very sick and their anxiety and fear makes it cruel. The vets need bloodwork, xrays, and such which is impossible, unless they are so lethargic they don't care. I'm not putting him through that. He is skeletal and weak, obviously something more than worms and very serious. I don't know what he would do trapped in a carrier. Maybe it's something that will resolve on its own, and I can only wait and keep trying to provide some nourishment.

You guys surprised me. I love that stitched cat, even though samplers and santas are all I really care to stitch, yet entries are not what I expected. To answer a few other inquiries, the chart is 30 years old from Stitches from the Heartland called C is for Cat. Should be 18 count over 2 as is my original, but I do them on 26 to 30 count now.

Oh dear. Not a good situation to be in with Squeak.
Feel so sorry for the sick cat. My cat was killed by a car today and he is really missed. Hugs Annika
Oh Marly, it is so hard to watch animals suffering. I'm sure Squeak knows you are trying to be helpful (and can be trusted). Thanks for all you do for all of the kitties.

good luck! I have a dear friend who fed and loved a ferel cat. She could really do nothing for him but put out food. It is hard.
Poor Squeak! :( I agree-- the vet is stressful for any animal, and for one that's never been before, it would be even worse. But my gosh, I wish there was something to be done for the poor thing. :(
Poor Squeak. You're a beautiful person for caring. He's being loved and cared for even if he doesn't realize it.

My heart breaks for you and Squeak in reading this update, I am so sorry...You certainly know what is best for him, as clearly you love your kitties. I can only offer that the very wild one's we have handled over the years, like your brother we used the have-a-heart trap, our Vet then sedated them through the cage to be able to "work them up". So sorry to hear bout squeak. Try beech nut turkey (stage) 1 turkey baby food. It's very good for sick animals that won't eat. I've used it with my Yorkie that stopped eating and it worked. Might be worth a try. Hope it works for you.
Afterthought, there is also something called nutrical. That can be purchased at pet stores or at the vet. It's a jelly like substance that I's filled with calories and nutrients for animals that don't eat enough. You may know all this. But I love animals and hate to hear they are in trouble. Just thought I offer some thoughts. Hope something works for you. !! Veronica

we went through what you're going through now, two years ago. Miah came with the apartment, she chose us. She was an independent cuss and we would see her when it was too cold, too wet, or she was hungry. We never 'owned' her ... but we cared for her, spoiled her when she let us and loved her to bits. You can't force it on a feral - it was a lifestyle she chose, either because of circumstances (before we arrived) or by choice. She could have had ever comfort possible but she would have had to give up a part of herself to get that: her independence. It broke my heart to see her diminish as fast as she did. But she stayed with us at the end and allowed me to baby her. The vet agreed with you: it would have been too traumatic to do the cage thing. You're doing all you can ... you just have to trust that he's aware you love him and will look out for him. Blessings on you and the little Squeakers xo karen
Hi...Sounds like he could have a dental problem called 'Feline Tooth Resorption' It is very painful for cats and they will not want to eat...three of my strays have had this problem. Worth checking out as something can be done to help him .
Perhaps you can lure him into a carrier with catnip? Might bliss him out while the vet can check him out? You and Mark are dear ones for looking after the kitties! Mouse

It traumatizes healthy kitties to go to the vet. I know it would be that way for Squeak too. The bad teeth situation has crossed my mind..
Know that you and Squeak are being thought about. I know it's hard on you to see him in such bad shape.

Me too Marly, hoping the best for Squeak. I am not familiar with cat problems but we had a a Malamute dog that needed a tooth pulled. He was mopey and not eating. Sounds like it could be a dental issue. I am sure you will think of something ... you are to determined to just let it go.

Marly, you are doing your best for Squeak no matter what. My story is that there was a little feral that kept hanging around and I fed it. Then there was a litter of kittens and I knew that I had no choice but to trap her or stand by and watch her produce litter after litter. Yes, the trapping was stressful for her but now 5 years later, she sleeps on my bed every night and rules the roost. I think that you come to a point where the alternative is worse than the trapping. Covering the trap with a blanket is a good stress reducer. My heart goes out to you Marly. Whatever you decide for Squeak is the right decision. Sending you lots of support and hope.
