Hello hello. I can't believe we are in the third week of July. Why is summer flying by so quickly? Many of you have high temps, we are getting them too. But I can sit on my swing and not have it bother me. It just feels like an extended hot flash to me and I am so used to them. Mark's friend's wife sleeps on a ChiliPad and keeps it at 60 degrees or she can't sleep. The newest is BEDJET which fills a special cotton comforter with either warm or cool air, dual zoned. One is beneath you, the other is on top of you. Never heard of either but a perfect solution to the he's cold she's hot dilemma. The older I get, the more important a good night's sleep is. And the tighter with the buck I get - neither of these are cheap.
Anyway, received my second order from 123. It included some linen colors from the first order, and these additional. I like the gold and surprisingly, Grasshopper. The Copper Penny isn't mottled much, perfect for me, but there is a red spot. I will start the stitching there to cover it and work out from there. That should work.
But here's what I wanted to show you and why it is so difficult to order online. You purchase a chart and order the specified linen and sometimes you don't know that it's very different from the designer's piece and will not look the same. Case in point, this WDW Dolphin from two sources. Drastic don't you think? I don't want the new one, I want the first one.
Under table lighting or a flash, there is no similarity. My first piece is the right side, dark and gray. The new piece is light with a tinge of aqua. I can understand that each dye bath will not be exactly the same but this is too much. If I had not ordered a second piece, I would have thought Dolphin is the dark, which it may not be! Who knows which the designer had and which is the real Dolphin?

Hand dyed linen and hand dyed threads... what crap shoot... drives me crazy! Since I order my supplies online I'm always wondering if what I see is what I'll get and how does it compare to the chart. Thanks for the pics... I've ordered from 123Stitch before and like their stuff... I think I need some of that grasshopper and the gold... thanks for sharing!
I am amazed at the difference in color between those two linens. You would think there would be a standard that the linen is compared to prior to sale. I look forward to seeing what you make with what you purchased. Thankfully the hot flashes are mostly behind me and only infrequently occur when I am in bed. Never during the day anymore. My ceiling fan usually does the trick and doesn't bother Hubby. Keep cool and enjoy the summer.
Thread is the same way. I hate running out of one because you never know what you'll get. Pretty fabric!
I love them both...Dennis and I are hardly at the same body temps...We keep the air conditioner on all the time and the ceiling fans...I manage to adjust!
I really agree with you Marly. I have the same issue with the over-dyed threads at times. It can be very frustrating. I need one of those cooling things. My poor DH puts up with a fan! He is covered with blankets and I have only a sheet on me! I get woken up at least 3 times at night. Ug! Plus I am old enough to be way past this nonsense!
WOW...what a difference. I just never bothered with all that, I just stitch on whatever I got from the supplier. Oh well, that's me..Now I have to start noticing.
Ohhh BTW, I got a crow too. Love it! Will post him on my Blog...Perfect for the Mojave Desert, we have gazillions of them flying around, looking for ??? Kody had a Crow friend...guess I'll call this one Kody's Krow... We always have to name them...that is, Sandy does. NEVER me.

Wow, that's a huge difference on those two pieces of fabric! But I understand perfectly what you mean about trying to get the same fabric that's actually the same color as what the designer used - think I bought *four* different pieces of the recommended fabric for Ellen Chester's Acorn Sampler Sewing Case and then decided to go a basic color rather than a "designer" fabric.
The Tin Roof fabric looks delightful, and that pale dolphin piece is quite pretty.
Incredible that two pieces with the same name could look so different. I've never been able to afford all the fancy colors and have to be content with the basics at the craft stores. I prefer 28 count evenweave as I can see it without magnification (my eyes are so bad they can't be corrected to 20/20). I did try dyeing a few pieces, but haven't even bothered with that of late. Lazy, right? Works for me.
I wonder if the darker gray fabric was mislabeled or something. The gold piece is very pretty.
I'm lucky...I have a shop about one hour from me and she carries a ton of fabric. But I do, on occasion, order from 1-2-3 stitch. I like that they offer small pieces of linen. I love all of your new linen..but the hand dyes do vary! Thank you for always posting, Marly! It not only gives interesting reading...it's very informative!!

I would think, by all of the linen you are ordering, you will be doing lots of stitching. Looking forward to seeing all of your new pieces.

I have a love/hate relationship with dyed linens (and flosses, for that matter) - I love that each piece is unique, but sometimes I really hate that each piece is unique! I used to just buy colors I liked and hoard them, so now I do a lot of floss tosses and swapping things out, which is also fun but can be frustrating when I just want to be stitching. Sigh.
I know exactly what you mean. I have ordered a particular linen thinking I'm going to get the same color that I had received from the same company before, to not have it be even close, just like you found. This has to be more than just dye lot differences, maybe different brand of fabrics from same vendor. Another pet peeve I have is that I have learned to not trust the photo on the front of the pattern envelope as to fabric color used for the stitched model. Case in point: I've bought kits from 123 (who by the way are a great company) and when I got the kit, the kitted fabric was nowhere near the same color as the chart's photo (in this case, Little House Needleworks) on the envelope. For me, it's better to buy my own fabric rather than a kit. That way, I get the color in the envelope picture, if that is what I want.
Just call me "Lucky'!! I wonder if the base fabric counts are the same... I have seen the same color on different thread counts that come out differently colored! I am reminded again to go peek at 123 for small fabbys! You always share such great things! Hugs!
