Hi hi hi. Hope all is well with you. It's the 16th and we've passed the center mark of September. Has anyone checked to see if the earth is rotating a little faster?
I was going to start a small hornbook sampler chart but still have Santa on my mind. I've been disappointed many times when ordering overdyed online so will substitute for the WDW threads. I have Needle Necessities skeins in red and decided to dip them in the brown dye jar and then the gray. The red is toned down now and looks pretty good. I stuck the red Wildflowers in too.
Not many changes except for leaving out parts of the design. It has an arched border charted but isn't stitched in the model. I don't plan on adding it and may even leave the side greenery off too. I thought a dark background was necessary to show the DMC 612 base and his beard, thought a night sky would be nice with those stars. 
The Gunmetal is not a color I care for but I think it will work well for this Santa.
If I stitch the side branches I'll use a lighter gray green, but I may just do the Santa area. I thought about trying a dye dip to change the linen a little but I have no idea which way to go, so I'll leave it alone.
I took down a few ferns to water them and take a look. This table is 36". These guys are amazing and would take up way too much space inside.
Almost took Carole to the hospital again yesterday, but this time because of what she ate. Mussels. She loves them but it's the second time she had to send unopened ones back and ended up deathly ill eight hours later. She's never had a problem before, but now said she will never order them again. I am allergic to shellfish but I don't think I could handle crabs and lobsters boiled alive and taking minutes to die. Can't they knock them out first? I understand that bacteria forms very quickly after death so they must be alive right up to cooking but there has to be a more humane way to quickly end it. She's doing OK today and got a few hours sleep.
Not sure if I want an iced coffee or a (lots of) chocolate Coke. I tried Diet Pepsi because it doesn't use Nutrasweet and it wasn't as good so it's back to regular Coke.

I can't believe it's the second half of September, either. Let's not think of what's coming in a few months, ok? Savor each day. I did realize with a start last night that Christmas is coming, and I need to work on Christmas ornaments. Some years ago I started the tradition of stitching one for each of my girls; now it's my unmarried daughter, my married daughter and her husband, and just this year a granddaughter. Not to mention one for myself; that one is actually done since it took all of two days to stitch. That must be some kind of record. Stitching is difficult for me because of tendinitis in one shoulder, so it is done a bit at a time. Hope you enjoy stitching your Santa. And I can't believe the size of your ferns!!
Thank you Marly for the great idea of overdying floss! I overdye wool but hadn't thought of trying it with floss. This may save me a trip to the needlework store. Harvest moon tonight. Bud looks great next to your fabulous fern.
Hello. Love the new Santa and thread. Your fern is gorgeous and Bud is cute as a button. I have a fern on my porch and it's huge too. It must have been the hot summer. I heard on the radio that the forecast through January is for warmer than normal temps all across the U.S.A. So maybe little snow for all of us.

I have some ferns as yours growing in my garden and they died back in winter and coming up again in spring.

Was in Walmart yesterday (Friday) and there is lots of chocolate candy there....even Dove. Will wait right up to Halloween to buy so it doesn't get eaten here.
I'm glad Carole is okay.........it is cruel the way crabs, lobsters, etc. are cooked.

I totally agree that the days are moving too fast. You definitely have a green thumb when it comes to ferns....beautiful. I like how you tone down your threads....will have to try that sometime.

Your ferns are amazing! I've never had much luck with them but then again I have a black thumb.
I really like the santa and never thought about overdying the floss so may have to try that myself. I personDonnaally love the overdyes but know there are lot of folks that don't care for them at all. I was at a not so LNS yesterday and the owner was telling a customer that she carried it but personally never stitched with them because she hated the fact they were never consist batch to batch. Interesting!

Shellfish are so problematic to even a healthy person, Carole should stay away. I always treat ferns like cut flowers. I leave out until they die...cruel I know! I am enjoying the cooler weather here in New England. Summer was too hot and humid for me! Barely could get out to weed gardens. I am pulling out one small area near house next spring and planting low cypress no maintenance. Putting in more hosts too in shaded area. Very sweet new Santa piece , nice color choice too.
I have NEVER eaten lobster for that reason. It is just wrong.

Marly, as Truus said, I also had a couple large ferns last summer. For the heck of it I planted them in the beds near the house(in cold snowy OHIO) and it took them a while but darn if they didn't come back this summer. I dug them up and repotted them. Will repeat the cycle this year and see how it goes.
Love your ideas for the Santa. I have been experimenting with dying and staining...So far, so good...I'll be curious about your endeavors. Wish I could just grow ferns here...size would not matter to me. Yours are outrageously gorgeous! LUV that Bud...he is so handsome. Best for your Sis too.

That Santa is going to look great with your choices. The last time I had a margarita, it made me very sick, no more margaritas for me. It is sad when good things make you sick!!

if the mussels weren't open, either they weren't cooked enough, or they were dead before cooking. One cooking show said tap the open ones before cooking, discard those that don't open, as they are dead. After cooking, discard those that didn't open, as they died with the shell closed before cooking. The problem is not that they are dead, but you don't know how long they've been dead!
Your ferns are gorgeous! I have never kept one alive, let alone thriving like these.
