Halloween is the evening before the Christian holy days of All Hallows' Day (also known as All Saints' or Hallowmas) on 1 November and All Souls' Day on 2 November, thus giving the holiday on 31 October the full name of All Hallows' Eve (meaning the evening before All Hallows' Day).
I got the camera hooked up to this old croaking laptop and it worked. After changes galore, I decided on 3011 and 832 for the bag with stars. It looks pretty darn good, but horrible in the photo. Shouldn't take too long to finish now that that is settled. Lots or errors in the sack so far, so I decided to count/stitch vertical instead of horizontal, which I did to count/stitch the stars. See how obvious it is when I use two directions? Too bad. Not taking it out again and my fault for not remembering that this is bad idea. Should be finished soon.
It won't be easy because my extra sharp paring knife went into my right thumb when taking the thick rib off the cabbage for this...
But I'm anxious to get him off the Magma so I'll take a pill and move on. Did I ever tell you that I sliced the top of my finger off on a mandoline slicer? I grabbed the piece and stuck it back on, taped it, babied it, and it stuck! Unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to the way the fingerprint lines were positioned. Looked weird for a few years but eventually, it corrected and except for the perfectly round ring from the scar, my print rows are back in sync.
We're going to have a few warmer days this week so I will try to get the corner squares sprayed (outside) and finished. I only have nine or ten left.
Giving haircuts and rides this week. I hope the new laptop will be in before Wednesday and the setup will go smoothly.

Santa himself looks nicely quite mottled (? does that word work for describing the color variations?). Still think he is a marvelously jolly design. (Why, oh why did I not motivate myself out of the chair to work on finishing ornies today?)

I've never understood the American obsession with Halloween and am delighted to discover that there are exceptions to the rule! Good on you, Marly! Growing up in England in the 1950's and 60's, we'd barely even heard of it. We were too busy waiting for Bonfire Night on the 5th November to get worked up about anything happening on the 31st October! Then, like so many other things, it began to creep across the Pond and before we knew it, Trick or Treat had arrived, but only in a small way. I can honestly say I never did have costumed children turning up announced on my doorstep, all the years up till we moved to France in 2001. Happily it's even more small-scale over here. The main emphasis at present is on buying chrysanthemum plants to place on the graves of one's deceased relatives on Toussaint or All Saints Day, the 1st November, which is a Bank Holiday. I sometimes wonder what would happen if you took a plant or flowers other than chrysanthemums (which I don't particularly like) to a grave. If I had a grave to visit I'd dare to break the mold! Would the ghosts then suddenly appear, do you think?!
Taped it on - oh boy! We don't "do" Halloween at my house. Kids used to dress up of course. I am trying to get some Halloween cross stitch done because I had none!
Love the Santa. I actually ordered a chart by that designer.
Your mandoline story still has me cringing. OUCH! That is something my mom would have done.

I don't care for Halloween either. I stitch mostly Christmas. So glad Christmas hallmark movies started this weekend!!
Oh my gosh, your fingers! Although, you don't do Halloween, the mandoline story gave me the willies! I changed directions with variegated thread once and ended up with a horse half horizontal colors and the other half spirals. Won't do that again.
We don't have Halloween here in the Netherlands althoug you see more and more carved pompoenen .
Poor fingers -be careful otherwise you cannot do your stitches anymore.

I'm not enjoying Halloween as much this year as I have in the past..........no little kids and the don't know the neighborhood kids anymore. My neighborhood has changed and not for the better.

I now KNOW why I am afraid of using the food slicer that my daughter gave me years ago!! I tell everyone I am afraid of slicing myself! It happens!! Not that I would do it on purpose... but stuff happens!! I don't enjoy halloween time either. My neighbors had a party last night for their 4 year old child and his friends...and when it was dark by 6:30, I heard the screaming by all the little kids. Since when is it funny to scare little children?? 'Nuf said... Hope the new printer connects to your laptop without a whimper and works well for you! Hugs!
I absolutely love the the fun of Halloween even though my kids are grown. Our neighborhood remains a family centered place and so we have fun decorating up our porches and yards. It is supposed to be 87 degrees here today in Florida so I think the kids are going to be really hot wearing any sort of costume that is too elaborate or warm. Anyhow, got my porch pumpkin carved and the candy in my big basket so we are ready!

We now are into Halloween for the grandkids…that makes it much more fun! Roasting weenies and marshmallows by the fire pit and going trick-or-treating with them, so gleeful. I still carve a jack-o-lantern and decorate with my witch collection…but, to be honest, people start thinking of Halloween so far in advance that I get somewhat tired of it before it's even here! I'm trying to be mindful of the here and now…the glory of Autumn…the sharing at Thanksgiving. THEN I will think of Christmas as Advent begins... Take care, Marly! Such a merry Santa you have, too!

Oh, just reading about your finger makes me weak-kneed, Marly. I can't stand the thought of blood at all :( Seriously, I am about to faint off my chair right now (and my dad was a surgeon--obviously, I didn't inherit those genes!!).
Your Santa looks so nice--glad you found colors to suit you. I love Halloween, but since dad died two years ago today, it hasn't been the same...
