Greetings folks. Hope everyone ended March with no issues. Our visit was exhausting but enjoyable. Cousin's husband makes donuts so ..... we went all over testing. Research and development you know. The winner was Apple Castle in New Castle PA, glazed honey wheat, by a landslide. I had no choice but to join Weight Watchers when they left (Dove minis are 2 points each and oranges are free, not bad together). Too much good food, ridiculous amount of donuts, desserts and snacks galore. An old favorite was made by my sister, (who never invited them for a meal which I had counted on), but she ate more than half of it before bringing it to my house, so I had to offer other options since we had ten people for dinner. Loved seeing them, but glad to be quiet and alone for some rest.
So what am I doing now? Ridding closets of excess and being a total P.I.T.A. to all. I don't know why. Stitching and blogging are not of great interest to me but I started another small in my continuing effort to regain mojo. What a pleasure to be off the grid for 10 days and away from the vile hatred taking over this land.
I've stitched this before for a friend and have always wanted one for myself. Handwork Club 1820 Redwork Pinkeep from 2011 by Stacy Nash. Not easy to find and I've seen other club pieces released after a period of time, wonder if Stacy will.
Simple and small, good choice for a crabass.
While ridding the linen closet, I came across the same old table cloths that I continually put back, never use, and several are not wanted. This one was my mom's, the heavy wrinkle free woven cotton and openwork. I used several applications of Biz for spot cleaning food stains, Lestoil for grease, oil, butter, and found that the orangey looking stains are ..... rust! Bar Keeper's Friend in a paste, applied several times and rinsing between. Gone. A few spots were missed but hopefully I will get them all. It's hard to see yellow stains on light fabric but holding it up to a bright window shows even the slightest which I mark with a piece of blue or masking tape. I hate to see these wonderful heavy linens thrown out because of stains but that's what happens to most. I'm taking the Battenburg to the vintage shop, no desire to iron.
I'm hoping someone can give me information about this cloth. It presses easily, white on white, 52" wide (selvage edge) by 48" (hemmed). Very heavy cotton. I had to tilt it in order for the light to hit the satin stitched design. A coat of arms (?) with three arrows, U.S., many stars, and outlined on selvage edges by three solid rows. I have not been able to find anything about the emblem. Is it just a design and not representative? Anyone know?
A few years ago I showed several vintage print tablecloths and was emailed by a reader that she collected them and was interested. The saved email was lost three crashes ago. Please let me know if you are still interested.
That's all I have. Dental visit I am dreading tomorrow. Cats are slowly coming back in after retreating from the visitors.

I know,guests,even those you love ,can be exhausting! The first few years we lived in the Pacific NW we had tons of company. Fortunately it has slowed down. Nice choice for stitching!

Hi Marly: It is always fun to have visitors but a toll can be taken if you are not used to it, I get so pooped out I need to rest for two days to recover.

Glad you enjoyed your visitors, Marly! I know the feeling--love having company, but I'm always so glad to get back to my quiet house again. Think we could all benefit from a 10 day off-line break--good for your mental health, I'm sure!
Thanks for the tips on ridding vintage linens of their stains. I have so many from my grandmothers that are just sitting in a cedar chest. Really should get them out and work on them or cut them up to use in my finishing...
Hope spring visits us soon--these gray rainy days are really getting to me, too!
As Satchel Page said, "The social ramble ain't restful." I can understand your feelings about the tablecloths. A friend was downsizing, and decided that since I do needlework, I should have an embroidered tablecloth that had been in her family. I don't even have a table it fits on, much less have dinners that would suit it. It's too lovely to just dump, but what do I do with it - or the place-mats it came with? Sheesh!
So happy to see you have returned to us Marly... I know the feeling of needing a
vacation after providing one for relatives. Much as you love and enjoy them, the
stress of pleasing can takes its toll, particularly in the donut dept. I was taken
back home to the East with your lineup of stain remedies.. had not heard Lestoil in
so long ... great products all. Once you get settled back, your mojo, humor and good nature will return. That small is delightful.
Welcome back to Blogland, Marly! I guess if you are going to need a reason to get back on Weight Watcher's , donut tasting would be about the best reason I can think of!! LOL!! Actually, that sampling tour sounds like a lot of fun to me. Cultural you know. All about the development and documentation. LOL!!!
I have missed your posts because your humor is so much fun. I hope things pick up and get back on track for you this week. A long visit from family is fun but it is tiring and super busy. With weather increasingly improving up your way, it is a good time to just enjoy the changes and switch gears.

So good to see you on your blog! Can I join in your crabbiness? I'm on long-term steroids and last night my husband got to experience my first 'roid rage about nothing. At least we were able to laugh about it later. I love that Stacy Nash pattern and have never seen it before! I am now on a hunt... It must have been from a a different club than at Country Sampler as I have been in that one since inception...

Glad you survived the relatives, love them in small doses. Feeding ten everyday , my goodness how did you do it? I think I would have had to frozen a lot of meals for that visit. I am not fond of cooking anyway, so many meals I double and freeze one. Breakfast for ten too. You must have so enjoyed the quiet when they departed.
I have similar cloth but they are napkins. My dad was in the Coast Guard twice. I have no idea when he got these whether they are pre WWII or from WW II stent. I treasure them but have no idea who will want them next.
