came in the mail today. Homespun Elegance's Simply Red and three 35 count pieces of linen. The two finishes on the cover are done differently, and I may try the very tiny method. The larger one is done over 2 on 28 count (about 5" x7") and the miniature is also on 28 count, stitched with two strands over one thread in tent stitch. Hmm. That's interesting. It looks wonderful in the photo, but I didn't think tent (or the first half of a cross stitch) would show enough detail of a letter. Using two strands must be the trick. So should I try that? It would go quickly without having to do a full cross and 28 is easy to see. I plan to follow the detailed instructions sent to me for over one stitching and that will ensure my floss doesn't slip behind the linen threads. Originally I expected to use one thread over two on 35 count, but I'd like to try this other method first.
Many of you mentioned how quickly I stitched Flora, but she was started and left behind a while ago. When I picked her up again and failed to regain interest, I just added a few bands.

Our deer have gone from drab to a lovely 435 or 436 or just a touch darker. I look forward to seeing your new project come to life. Are you going to stitch it in red or another color?
Merry Cox has used tent stitch over one for words on a number of her designs over the last 5(? ... 10?) years or so. While sometimes it looks fabulous, I think some letters look a little skimpy/tired/not-quite-right. Though I believe if one does tent stitch the needlepoint way (with the looooong diagonal on the back as opposed to half-cross-stitch's short vertical) you get better coverage and nicer, fuller (solider?) letters. But don't know for sure since I can never make myself use all that thread and end up doing crosses over one.

I'm sure you will add just the right amount of "you" to this project ! I didn't know the color of deer change with seasons. Nice.

I guess our deer are a bit behind yours, Marly--they don't seem to be that pretty color yet. The other day, I looked out and saw a young fawn just laying in the middle of our yard. Thinking he was hurt, I cautiously walked toward him. But, as soon as he spotted me, he jumped up and ran into the woods. I guess he was just taking a bit of a rest. Have never seen that before!

Wow--to have wildlife so close to your home... amazing! Never happen here. As for how to stitch your new project... you will find the perfect solution, I have no doubt. Hopefully it will not drive you to distraction tho! (Thanks for the FB comment...) Hugs!
