Still holding on to the family's old Quaker lace tablecloths. Destroying these beautiful pieces is not an option. So hard to find all the little stains, most were removed with Biz and Lestoil. Can't say enough about Lestoil saving a lot of clothing for both of us. Those grease spots from a splash of olive oil or butter, salad, anything with fat or oil, are gone. I use full strength, just on the pesky spot, wait a few minutes, and rinse before throwing in the washer. Works like a charm. Removes all the true grease from work clothes too.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has ever sewn a tunic from vintage lace or tablecloths. I saw this when browsing the sale at https://www.shopcarols.com/, and thought maybe the tablecloths could be put to use in clothing.
I like that style in lace and they range from boho to elegant (mine would be towards bo and ho). Maybe I should just try adding the scalloped edge of the cloth to a shortened loose t-shirt or chambray blouse turning it into a tunic. I have enough lace to attempt inserts like this also.
If anyone has tried this I would appreciate any suggestions.

I love your tablecloths....I have a couple of antique ones also. so far mine are just wrapped in tissue in a chest and I use them every few years for special occasions. I've never made a top from antique linens, but I have made cloth angels and used the linens for their dresses. They were about 25" tall and I think they turned out wonderfully.....I looked to see if I had a photo but no luck 😊
I love those tunics, and it seems to be a good way to use the old tablecloths. I look forward to seeing if you or any of your followers do this! I, myself, am not a sew-er and can only imagine the mess I'd make. But I'm sure some of you talented ladies and gents could work miracles with this project....especially you, Coni, whom I know has the magic touch with a needle and thread!
Love the look and applaud your interest in repurposing the lace. Hope you get some great suggestions.
Neat idea to use vintage tablecloths for clothing. I will be interested to see what others suggest.
Very cool. I hope someone can give you some Information. But not me 🤔
No tablecloth tunics help from me but did want to say your Lestoil tip has saved many at shirt of mine.
Ooh, fabulous idea! I'd love to see how you get on
I don't speak english well enough to express myself well, or understand what kind of clothes you want to make and the type of tableclothes you havebut I can give some ideas
- if you have a long but not large one, you can simply "open" the side or back or front of a dress or shirt that is a bit tight and sew the lace or so here a little bit like this
https://fr.pinterest.com/pin/442900944584735079/ or maybe if the piece is large you can open a dress and include the piece under letting the opened dress "free" a little bit like on this one https://fr.pinterest.com/pin/572168327640449040/
- you can also simply add a touche at the bottom of a shirt, like this https://fr.pinterest.com/pin/545498573599673930/
I have a million of links I saved because it's the kind of things I like to do but not knowing what you like / want to do it's not easy...
I'm enclosing more links, maybe you'll find an idea that you like !

Ok, it's yet way too many links hahaha
Pardon me for calling you Coni (I know you follow her, too!). Sometimes I amaze myself with the things I do!
That would make a beautiful tunic. I would have no idea how to make one! At least the fitting would be easy. Thanks for the Lestoil suggestion. I would never have thought of that!
My daughter LOVES to buy clothing from a family run company called Farmhouse Frocks, which have carved out a niche for themselves using vintage textiles that would ordinarily need to be discarded because of flaws or stains, and have repurposed them into wonderful blouses, tunics, dresses, etc. You are so creative that you would have no trouble sewing up something wonderful!
I also have a few vintage tablecloths, so appreciate the tips about Biz and Lestoil. But--wow! The greyish tunic shirt with the lace inserts! Love it!!
