I meet the requirements on the CDC site, but the newest protocol is wait and see. First of all, the nurse at Urgent Care said it is too late to receive the shot because this is the third day since removal. Well, that's within 72 hours isn't it? No. It seems she believes 36 hours are three days. The second incredible tidbit of information was that the tick needed to be on me for more than three days. (there's that 3 day mixup again) I replied that if I knew when it attached, I would have removed it then, not 3 days later. So how would a patient know it has been on them for three days? Hey, there's a tick embedded in me sucking on my blood! I'll remove it in a day or so. But the CDC states 36 hours which is NOT three days. Hmm. I was started to think I was wrong and there are only 12 hours in a day. No wonder I never get anything done. So, I was told to wait until I get the bull's eye rash larger than a half dollar, a fever, and aching joints. Then see my doctor and get a blood test and antibiotic. Now I have a question. The woman at Kohl's I always yak with and is a very giving soul that has had many hardships and heartbreaks, recently lost her husband and then two days later, her challenged daughter. I want to give her something, a wind chime, a garden stone, wind art, what? Nothing so big that she feels awkward, nothing too personal since we are not really friends. I had searched for a locking diary for someone else, not to be found except one online, and I wonder if that is appropriate.
As I was packing my craft room to take to Goodwill I found several sizes of wood trunks. Mine is pretty primitive and I never got around to attaching the latch. Is it a good or bad idea to make one for her as a memory box? Too personal? What do you think? I'm at a loss here. She is also dealing with her son's near death accident in which both his legs were crushed around a tree, still isn't able to walk after 18 months. A massage? WAY too personal but I will bet she could use one. Any suggestions for me would be appreciated.
Yes I am getting rid of all the wood boxes, drawers, trunks, you name it. I am tired of all these "I should do this and sell them" items that are never worked on.

Thanks for the link to the tick information! They are really bad already here. Two were found crawling on my husband yesterday. As for something to give to the lady you yak with at Kohls, perhaps a note or potted plant.
I think the idea of a memory box is lovely...not too personal, but sensitive. Perhaps you could tuck a gift card in...Starbucks, Baskin Robbins, etc...a little treat to bring a bit of cheer to her day.

Marly, I would personally love receiving a memory box, and the addition of small gift card as Robyn suggested sounds just lovely. The poor lady certainly seems to have been through a lot recently. How nice of you to think of her with a token of cheer and understanding!
Hope all is well with the tick bite....it was predicted they'd be bad this year and it seems they are right. Good grief, another thing to worry about!
Yikes the three days thing is scary. You would think "modern" medicine would have a better answer/response. The memory box sounds like a wonder gift. The poor lady is most likely distraught with all the events in her life and am sure she would welcome any token of kindness.
Don't know the dimensions of the trunk, but a memory box for photos, condolence
cards & notes, etc. filled with a lovely scarf or a light spray cologne would be
thoughtful.. How dear of you.... Hope the tick bite amounts to nothing else and you

Ah. Well. Three days ... of course that's 36 hours - it doesn't say three days and three nights does it? Yeesh! Healthcare guidelines are beyond ridiculous at times, but doubly awful that you're having to deal not only with "leave it alone, wait and see" but also the frustration that multiplying 24 by 3 is apparently beyond the people at the urgent care.

Poor you and how sad for that poor woman. What a lot of sorrow she has been dealing with. I think it is lovely of you to think of giving her a token and I agree, the memory box is a wonderful idea and I think anyone would love it and appreciate the thoughtfulness and sentiment. Fingers crossed the tick bite doesn't progress into anything more than a bite.

Oh those nurses and doctors who knows it better! They don't get troubles of a tickbite but you get the pain etc. Go to see your gp as soon as possible Marly.

Ticks are rotten little buggers. I hope your tick spot clears up with no issues. You are so sweet - I wouldn't be able to offer a suggestion. There is a book The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. True story of her losing a husband and, I believe, her daughter.
I hope the tick issue is a non-issue. They are supposed to be back in Ohio, too.

I think a card with a heartfelt handwritten message with a massage gift certificate enclosed sounds lovely. Grief can be really stressful for the body, massages (especially something like Thai Yoga Massage) can help relieve that. Who cares if it's "too personal"? (It's not, BTW; unless you are administering it yourself!)
To address first the woman with loss: I think no one is offended for being thought of. I do understand your concerns about what's appropriate, but I'd say do what's in your heart. The other question about 36 hours/3 days and how long should you look at a tick before removing it--what can I say? It's nuts. But I do think it's important to assert reality in the face of these bizarre interpretations of protocol. Is there a physician you can appeal to?
So sorry you're dealing with incompetent medical care. Walk-ins are pretty much for the birds. They x-ray'd my daughter's broken foot and didn't even see the fracture. Not every deer tick is a carrier so hopefully you'll be okay. I like the idea of the memory box as it's not too personal but I also think I'd put a note with a generic gift card inside - and leave before she opens it because she might not accept it. You've a kind and generous spirit, my dear.

I think the memory box or potted plant/flower are good ideas, but I wonder if giving it to her at the store would be a problem with store management. A lovely "thinking of you" card with a gift card would also be very nice.
Hello Marly - thought I would comment on your thoughtfulness regarding the poor woman from Kohls...I really like the idea of the memory box. She must feel so sad and lonely, I can imagine she will be touched by your act of kindness.I once gave my Grandmother a small but beautifully wrapped empty box(ring or necklace sized box)that had a typed poem attached to the ribbon and bow on top. It said "This is a very special gift That you can never see The reason it`s so special is It`s just for you from me. Whenever you are lonely Or ever feeling blue You only have to hold this gift And know I`m hugging you. You never can unwrap it Please leave the ribbon tied Just hold the box close to your heart It`s filled with hugs inside." There are many short poems or verses you can find on the internet that may be more appropriate for the sentiment you want to convey. I also like the idea of the wind chimes...you are truly a kind, caring soul.
Gosh, Marly, I go away for a few days (wedding no. 1 is now done!) and I come back to find all of your posts. I can't believe all that has happened to you recently. I am really sorry to read about the deer tick. My son had one on him, went to urgent care, and they did give him the shot after they removed it--that was in 2015. Perhaps protocol has changed. I am so scared of getting Lyme disease as I have a coworker who has really been affected by it and it really is at epidemic proportions here in western PA. I know you'll be watching the area very carefully, but from what I've read not everyone gets the bull's eye rash! Sure hope all goes well...

Wow--I cannot believe the medical foul-ups you have encountered for the tick! Gee! I actually came in from birding at a Nature Preserve this past Thursday, and when I was shaking my shoes out I saw a tiny black spot on my sock! It did not get to bite me... Last year, found a black spot under my bra area after a shower. Hubby got that one out and nothing came of it. Hope you've called your PCP to confirm what you have been told... sounds wonky!
