Uncle

I'm saying uncle!  There is just too much linen and weight to this project to hold even with the spool huggers.  I could cut the excess now but I've made errors before and cut too close, so I'm waiting until I see the stitching extend full length and width.  I gave away the very large hoop stand because I didn't want to bother revamping the legs as I showed in this post.
I purchased the Lacis sit on stand and I do like it because there is only one leg to it, open beneath so I'm not hitting into sides, and it flips over so easily for access to the back.  Turning it backwards allows the hoop to be raised to almost eye level which relieves the neck strain.  The reviews on Amazon aren't great but I think it is very nicely made and I've had no problems with it.  I plan to order the larger hoop (it comes with a 10").  I'm anxious to see if the linen could be lax enough in the 14" to use the sewing method.  Not a really big deal since there are no large blocks of stitches.

My K's Creations adjustable lap frame requires the project to be sewn to the tape for scrolling, not something I want to do.  I think it's time to sell it.

The new cat is only running about 10' from me now and I heard him meow a few times.  He looks so sad and sleeps in one place the entire day.  We made a shelter with Plexiglass walls and open sides so he can see around him and have two exits, but he still won't use it. He lifts his head to his name, Petey.
These two are always looking for him, Bud has warmed up a little more but not Nitzy.
Doing some hot pepper canning, hot pepper jelly, and pepper mustard this week between appointments.  Can't believe it's October.

Have a great week!

Petey is such a beautiful boy...its wonderful you are trying to help him...all our pets are rescues and worth every ounce of work and patience needed to help them through what they have experienced. Your work is beautiful and love seeing your home....Have a wonderful October!

Happy October 1st. This year surely is flying by. We may have record breaking heat here tomorrow Wed. and Thurs. Friday should cool a bit with a breezy day.
Feel so badly for Petey. I've seen cat carriers covered in insulation and wrapped with strong duck-type tape for strays to stay in in the winter months. I wish your two boys would accept Petey.
I know you're doing all you can for him.
Enjoy your stitching. I like your new hoop.
Have a happy day.

I never thought about re-working one of the stands I already have. I will be now :-) I can't get the work close enough either using those 2 legged stands. I had been pondering how to put a bracket and arm attached to my chair so I could just swing the work out of the way. Or maybe I'll just continue with the string around my neck holding the frame up if needed.

I'm glad Petey is not quite so quick to run off. We have a "stray" that's been here for about 2-3 years now, he still moves about 10 feet away when we go out to feed the outside cats. Last winter he did get comfortable enough to use one of the kitty huts with a warming pad when it got cold. Now, where is the 4th barrel to set up this winter now that Goober (kitten) showed up?... I saw a tip where some use old coolers with holes cut out of the side to use as shelters for cats or small dogs.

I have been worried that my linen wasn't large enough after I've stitched a bit, so I use one thread and count using it, by going in and out every other stitch (every two threads when stitching over two). I leave both ends on the thread loose so I can pull it out later, but this would allow you to determine how long the linen has to be, and then you can cut the extra after leaving required margins.

Wish it didn’t have to be so hard with Petey. He looks to be a sweet fella, though. In time...

Petey looks like a sweetheart... love his expression and markings
It has been years since I did that sampler sans the dark motif...
Your are so right, the grippers are too flexible to hold a good
gathering of heavy linen...hope your frame alternative works out.

I am glad you seem to have welcomed Petey to the family. He is so sad looking, hopefully you will be able to catch him soon and get him neutered ( if not done already). I stitch on wooden hoop floor stands, I have six and I think I bought them all on Ebay during the years. Since I do not have to hold the fabric I have no problem, I gather up the extra with a clip clothes pin. I always have extra large fabric, I live in fear of not enough fabric and hate to do borders first.
