Hiya stitching buds. I just found out this week that I can transfer Flosstube to my TV!! Wowee! This is so nice to see those samplers and projects much larger. And I can still speed them along by moving the progress bar, some are just way too long and I lose interest.
Mark has a golf outing all day. So I started early to build Petey a temporary shelter. I've tried several already, all have failed to coax him inside, even the very open ones. Mark will have a fit when he sees what I did. He doesn't understand that I still want to attempt heavy work, even with the joints and bad neck. I wore heavy gloves while sorting the wood and gathering the bricks in case of spiders and I received only two bruises. A few seven foot 4x6 treated lumbers were soaking wet from being on the ground, much heavier than I expected. Yes I'm sore and need a trip to the chiro but I did it and that good feeling is worth it. You all know what I mean!
Voila. A Petey palace. During the day he can be found snoozing on the stack of this wood, so I'm hoping that the new arrangement will be sort of familiar and he may enter the box. We'll need to get some exterior products for a full roof and a nicer box, but not until I know he will use it.
Of course, Bud had to inspect and is currently inside the box.
I would prefer the box opening face the house but it would be susceptible to weather. I have a panel I just painted to close in the side half way but I want him to get used to this first.
The weather has changed to very cool from very warm, and the colors of summer are on their last days. Hate to see them go. I am surprised at the massive moss baskets on light poles throughout local towns still thriving. Usually the tunias get leggy with fewer flowers, but they are packed with color from top to bottom. I asked a merchant about them and she said the city waters them daily from a truck. They must have time release fertilizer.
Carole's friend told her to leave the ferns outside until the stems are bare because the smaller birds take shelter in their dried leaves. Really? I'll give it a try, but doubt it's true.
One of our favorite meals tonight, this time in the Instant Pot. Roast beef with a delicious and easy gravy. The meat is cooked until tender in red wine, paprika, garlic powder, and Worcestershire. While slicing the roast, a can of cream of mushroom soup blended into the liquids makes a fabulous gravy. I made the roast yesterday, juices can be skimmed of any fat, won't take long at all to heat and add the soup.
Enjoy your weekend!

I've have a hard time getting cats to use outdoor shelters also. Some are just too scared of being enclosed. My husband uses coiled rope lights to keep them warm and that usually tempts even the most stubborn cats. Hopefully Petey will make friends with the others soon and be able to come inside.
I hope Petey enjoys his palace. :)
Hi, Marly,
Hoping your new shy fella takes to the shelter. Perhaps when it gets really cold he will.
Did you know you can speed up the playback of Flosstube (and YouTube) videos as well? My attention span tends to wander when people drone on... errr... talk for a long time. Not to be rude, but I can watch so much more when things are played at twice the speed!
Have a great weekend... take it easy!
Marly, great job on Petey palace. I am so glad you are trying to make a home for him. Have you thought of a large plastic barrel or large Rubbermaid box with square cut. I think he will adjust, you know cats, things in their own time. We know you have a big heart, even if it hurts you, you want to make sure everyone is taken care of.
You made a palace for Petey!
Hope you are not too bad after all this work
Have a great weekend
Greetings Truus from Holland
I agree with Anonymous, Marly. I like your kitty condo. I hope Petey will too. Maybe now that it's getting colder he/she will go in it. Hope so !
Your petunias and ferns are gorgeous. All of my flowering plants in the ground look sick. We've had NO rain for going on two months.
Take it easy this weekend.
Thinking of you.

What a great idea...LOVE the Petey Palace. Hope he gets the idea of his luxury before the cold winds blow....so happy you are able to help him as I too am a rescuer....it's a great thing to do! Feel better and have a good day!
Petey Palace is a good name! I hope he uses it, he was probably nearby watching the whole construction process and the inspection by Bud. I hope your aches & pains go back to normal soon. I understand about wanting to do things even though others think "You ought not be doing that! You'll get hurt!". I notice they rarely have those concerns when it comes to housework and cooking though.
That roast sounds luscious. I don't have a One Pot, just Crock Pot. I suspect I don't use nearly enough things like W. sauce, as it usually seems bland. And after years of bland boiled meat, I find out that for best results, browning the meat before putting it in the pot helps the flavor.
You know, I actually got tears in my eyes, seeing your compassion for the cats. What a kind person you are.
Take care.
I love Petey's spot. I'll have to build something similar for our feral cat. We used to have so many ferals-two got sick and we brought them in to give them antibiotics. The weather was rainy for two months so they ended up being permanent pets. Then a cat had 3 babies that had eye infections so every day we doctored them and talked to them. Mama went missing after they were weaned and we were going to get them fixed. One kitten, the friendliest, went missing the night before surgery and we never seen it again. After a couple weeks we took the other two in so they wouldn't go missing. So we have 4 cats in the house. We already had 3 in the garage. That left 2 outside were we had two holes cut in the shed. In March 2018 a mean old tom cat and his girlfriend showed up in the shed. He wanted to fight constantly with our 2 fixed cats and even tried to attack my dog. Well, I got the shovel after him. No one is going to hurt my baby dog may she r.i.p. I had to close up the holes after 15 years for welcoming strays. One feral cat went missing and I suspect the bad tom cat hurt him so bad he couldn't make it back home so we only have Spice left outdoors. We found a dead opposum one year. We had some rotten boards and this year a skunk rubbed against my pant legs in broad daylight. I thought it was Spice. It ran into the open door so we waited that evening for it to come out. Well he did along with 4 other young skunks. I bought hardware cloth, exterior plywood, etc and fixed up where the boards had rotted out. We have two dog houses a friend made and gifted us so we put little dog beds inside and Spice has been using them. He started out in the little one but last weekend we got over 8 inches of rain in one day. The wind shifted so he moved over to the bigger dog house. I worry about the winter though. He used to go to the shed and jump into a milk can I stuffed a couple dog beds in. I have heated bird baths so many cats and birds come to drink in the winter. I thought the dog houses could use a covered porch but he may not go inside so I think something like you fixed up would be great and I could use the top for a potting bench sometimes. We have a lot of leftover roofing shingles so I "side" the dog houses and the shed with them to help keep rain and snow from blowing in between the boards. It's raining again as I type this. Bless you for helping them.
