Good grief

What a mess.  I thought I was doing really well!  The motifs were aligned on the left, counted from proper placement, double checked when each was started, and I am so off.  At first, being off one linen thread was not the slightest concern, even two would not be an issue with these motifs.  But I am way past that.

I do not like charts that are divided into pages especially from a magazine, and trying to line up one to another is part of the problem.  The shaded overlap was fine, but the horizontal
alignment was not and I couldn't see that.

The bottom stag was good with the grass on one page, and the blue dog was good with the upper bird that was good with the plant that was good with the left edge and lined up with the small tree that was perfect beneath the green and purple dogs that were matched to the vase.  The 739 plant was going to be removed for a color change, but it needed moved anyway because the brown plant to the left of Vegas lined up with the green bird who is lined up with the tall left plant but it still ran into the 739 plant.  The blue dog is too high and too far for no good reason which made the large flower several stitches too high which bumped the Vegas gal's base that had to be removed and the stag was to be even with the plant because both should be three stitches down to match the horizontal line of the grass but there isn't even enough room for the fricking stag because the too high plant is also two stitches to the right.  Whew! If this wasn't so close to finish, the flames would be high and bright.

Petey's scratches look fine, but Nitzy's ear has lost all hair, the injury is much wider than at first, tissue is missing and the ear is so thin it is curling.  No way this wild child would wear a collar and the doctor doesn't even want to attempt it.  I am using an antibiotic cream but this is not looking good for healing.  I do it lightly while he's sleeping and so far, so good.

Hope your weekend won't be as frustrating as mine!

Sounds like you're really frustrated with your sampler. I don't like to have to line up anything.....did two "Sleigh Bells" and the first one was off.......did better on the second one but that doesn't compare to the piece you are doing.
Sorry about Nitzy's ear. I hope it will improve. Sure wish you didn't have the problems with the kitties. Petey looks like he is a "chunk"..
Having MOHS surgery on my left hand in April........another place on my right arm later. What next ?
Have a good weekend.

Gosh, I feel your pain with this sampler. Several pieces have caused me to rethink this craft. Maybe I'm just not good enough for stitching. And then I remind myself, young girls stitched these pieces and they were not perfect either. Still.....it is frustrating when you find yourself off in so many places....and you wonder - how did thus happen?? And at what point do you just give up and either start over or give up? Would be curious to hear what others think.

Regardless, your stitching is lovely and I really enjoy your blog. (Yours is the only one I read with any regularity). We are losing an hour of the weekend due to Daylight savings time so I plan to get busy and stitch as much as I can this weekend. Hope your weekend is a good one and your kitties get to feeling better.

Oh no! It was looking so good to me. I'm working on a multipage pattern and understand the frustration of trying to get all pages lined up. It can be hard enough when the stitches are continuous, but where there's gaps like your motifs have... yeesh!

I'm wondering about the give up and start over point, not on the current project, but an old crewel piece where my tension was too tight and the fabric is all puckery. Do I rip all and start over? Will I have enough yarn, or is it still available? Can I salvadge the yarn I used already? Can I read the pattern as this was a late 70s pattern and before nearly everyone had their own printer/scanner?

Yikes! I hate when that happens! Take a deep breathe, Marly, and one motif at a time. Your sampler is looking good and will be beautiful despite a few misplaced stitches. When I'm working on pieces that have multiple pages, I usually will make a copy of all pages and cut and tape to get it all lined up on one big page. Then when I'm stitching in the places where it's on 2 pages, I'll use that copy.. It's helped me with lining things up. Have a good weekend! Cherie in WI

Those large patterns that do not over lap or even worse! I am doing one now and I have so much tapes on the pages( copies) that folding them has been come impossible. i just keep making more copies and more tape. But these finished piece are always worth the trouble. Petey is a beautiful cat, poor Nitzy calico cats are prone to be fighters, I know I have one! I would not worry too much about placement of motifs, have you seen some originals? Some wonder off into the borders!

I really don't like patterns that are so random. I am in the middle of one right now and I find it extremely frustrating. I don't mind overlapping pages, but they have to be very clear. Some are not. I hope Nitzy's ear heals.

I hope you can get it figured without too much more frustration.
I don't stitch much, so a few of the small ones I've done on multiple pages confused me immensely!!!

I know that everyone will shriek with horror, I think I can already hear it, but I just have to cut those overlap sections off the chart and line it up otherwise I get off really quickly, especially when the motifs are rather random and scattered. I have one that I am getting ready to start soon which is in magazine form and I will try to copy the pages so I can do my usual hacking, so should be interesting!

Oye....and I thought I had issues with my silly little needle roll. I guess I should be grateful that I don't do any large pieces anymore.... I'm telling ya....cross stitch errors are just like lies...and pretty soon we have a web. I have a larger piece I started a year or two ago...I made a counting error of 1 space and only noticed it (like usual) way too late. Now I have forgotten where that error was, so I am fearful of picking it up again because I just know that flames will erupt eventually. Just remember...as I think you told me....no one but you will know in looking at it the errors made. That's the uncanny forgivingness of primitive and antique pieces. It sure is trying your patience. I’d have given up by now. It is very pretty.

This is not fun anymore...
Was thinking-can you stitch only one bird so there is more space for the dog?
I wouldn't make a issue of wrong places because you do not hang the pages next to your sampler on the wall.
Hope it will be okay with the wounds of your kitty.
Have a great day!
