Really? Visited Amish greenhouses today because Carole needed her Vista Bubblegum petunias and they go really fast. Froze my rear gear off. Four left at three nurseries so I'm glad we didn't put it off. Mixing other flowers or other colors with the Bubblegum is plentiful but she prefers single color baskets. I found only one greenhouse with the Vista Silverberry and it outperforms the pink. Really.
Massive amount of blooms and very dense growth, flowers are slightly smaller and more sturdy. So instead of the yearly red geranium parade in the front, these beauties will stand out against the dark siding. We will go back next week when I decide what I would like for the deck. Hopefully, I won't need a winter coat and gloves. I was so very cold.
We have seen five male Orioles at one time on this hook. Usually just a few glimpses a year, but we caught sight early and put out oranges. I had no idea we would get this many! My bag of oranges is so sweet but I can't eat them. No kiwi, oranges, grapefruit, nothing that I used to devour when in season. So my new friends will. I had no idea they also love suet .

The Grosbeaks are here too and they also love the orange, several fights throughout the day.
Petey has been eating better, maybe because I am sprinkling catnip on the dry food. Nit and Bud both loved to eat the crushed leaves and the vet claims it does help with appetite. Worked like a charm. When I crush into powder, some of the hard stems will pierce my skin so I try to remove them, worried he may get one stuck in his mouth. I used a colander and the heavier catnip was sewn into a little sack.
I've made quite a few more masks and also ordered these very comfortable lightweight black neoprene. Found on Etsy, very reasonable. The blue one is from a shopping bag.
The doctor visit today was good. A vascular surgeon, he will perform another ultrasound on my legs to see why I am "needing" so many Varithena treatments, and his fee for sclerotherapy is 1/3 of my doctor. So I am switching and anxious to see the test result. As for the hair, I have lost around 60% and am a candidate for the transplant. Two surgical methods and I chose the less expensive. He recommended I try the PRP injections first to help stop the loss because if it continues, it won't be long before I am in the same position with only the grafts left. Again, his costs is 1/3 of my other doctor!! I really really like him as I did 35 years ago when he worked on my veins. So the transplant will be mid to late fall and because of the number of people getting them, must schedule now. I am relieved, but also afraid of progression. One day at a time. This may be related to the auto immune bullshit from that fricking flu shot. And what will happen if the Covid vaccine is mandatory? After these last several weeks of misery following a week long illness, I can only imagine how my immune system will react.
I hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day. Soon you'll all be able to hug your grandkids. Or at least see them in person. Some local stores have opened and I have to get Carole some books. She is a voracious reader but can't afford the prices of paperbacks, we have no used book stores, the library is closed. She doesn't have a computer or a smart phone for downloads, but would prefer book in hand anyway. A locally owned shop offers discounted books I never heard of but they're better than nothing. She absolutely loved the Jan Karon series and read them all.
Haven't stitched. Not sure what to do. I do not like the light colors and was hoping to work one thread on the 36 count but it needs two for the satin. Maybe. Haven't decided! Got my Fragments and LOVE them. Ordering some linen and threads from 123, a few small charts, and am happy to wait for the delayed shipment. The pants I ordered from Macy's weren't even shipped yet, online sales are really brisk.
It's time to get a Jamoca from the freezer and stare at the chart and linen again. My nightly routine.
Hope the week starts well for everyone, can't believe we're approaching MID MAY!!
Stay well.

Hi Marly, it's the same with the PW petunias here. I have been looking for the Silverberry and haven't found any yet. I did manage to get 2 bubblegum though. One greenhouse told me all their PW plants come from Michigan and it's been very difficult to get their stock in. She said she ordered 5 carts each of silverberry and bubblegum and only got 3 mixed carts. I'll be heading to my 5th greenhouse tomorrow or Wednesday morning. The last three nights our temps have dropped to low 30s, but a local weatherman assures us that there is a warming trend coming and he even went so far to say that we're going to skip spring and go right in to summer temps.
I missed it, what happened with your flu shot? I got my first one last fall and had a severe allergic reaction to it. Within minutes my throat and face swelled up. Very very scary!
I didn't look at flowers on my last outing, only tomatoes & peppers. Lots of beefsteak or sweet 100 tomatoes, some roma tomatoes and bell or really hot peppers. No jalapeno peppers at all. I did get most of the herb plants I usually get. The greenhouse (new owners) had very little for vegetable plants at all. But overall, not as many vegetable plants as usual - maybe half??
Good news on being a hair transplant candidate, at least there's some hope for improvement. Also good news on the vascular surgeon costing less. I too keep wondering about the covid vaccine, both side effects and if will be mandatory and who will be given pass to not get it.
I did not know about sprinkling cat nip on the food for appetite. I'm peeved at Goober right now - he got the male Grosbeak yesterday :-< I was afraid it would happen - the birds kept coming right up to the house poking around for goodies. The blue jays keep taking the cat food - why couldn't it have been one of those? Or the blasted grackles? :-(
Marly, glad there is some good news with your hair. You take such good care of Petey-boy and all your furrballs. If Carole has internet at her house have you thought about getting her a Kindle reader from Amazon, they have different types. A basic reader that is backlit and adjustable fonts would work great. You can use her library card to borrow ebooks. If she doesn't have access to internet at her house, you could take Kindle to your home and load some books on it. Amazon also has free books esp. classics. Flowers are so pretty!
Hi Marly,
Those flowers are so beautiful and happy you found some! I just love those hanging baskets but always kill them no matter what I tried to do!! You just have that special touch!!
Wish we could send you some of our heat!! Last week it was upwards of 106* here in AZ!! So many of you were freezing and here I am with the AC on!! Crazy!!!
My daughter is a librarian and they have opened again for curbside service here! She said over 60 cars were lined up waiting for their requests and while they were sitting comfortably in their cool cars, she was masked, gloved, and melting from the hot temps! People here LOVE their books and CD's and they can't keep up!! Hoping your library opens soon like ours!
So happy you have found a good Dr and are getting some help! Have been keeping you in my prayers!!
The birds are just beautiful and they certainly are enjoying your feeders!!
Hoping you can get back to stitching! You do such beautiful work!
Thank you for your very lovely comment on my rug!! It really meant so much to me!!!
Take care and hope you and yours continue to keep well!
Heart Hugs~

Hi Marly: It is amazing how fast certain flowers go, here it is geraniums the very red and salmon colors that go first.
We have loads of males around if a female is around, I think they are vying for her affections.
The cat nip in food is a great idea, thank-you for the tip.
Mike had a similar incident with a flu shot many years ago, so sorry you are having these problems.
What kind of stories does Carole like to read, i am willing to send my books after reading them if she likes.
Stay Healthy
Catherine
It doesn't feel like May at all. Following stay at home orders, so we rarely get outisde. So weird to see green outside.
Gorgeous flowers and birds! I'm envious of your orioles and grossbeaks. Also, I think those 2017 Fragments in Time (Summer House Stitche Workes) are available on their web site - cute patterns and I am tempted...
Not sure how it got to be mid May. At least today the weather is a bit more pleasant so soon will be heading out to edge. UGH! Not one of my favorite yard tasks.
Hopefully you will be picking up your needle soon.
Beautiful flowers. Haven't yet bought a single plant.
I do love the flowers you chose. I go to one particular nursery. In order to keep social distancing, they have spread things out so bad I couldn't find anything! I hope your hair problem is finally resolved. At least you seem to have found a DR. you can trust.
I'm late reading (and watching You Tube also) but I was thinking the same thing as another commentor, a Kindle paperwhite might be just the answer but I think she would need the internet so that might be a game changer. My PPO doctor left the group he was with and of course they won't tell you where he went because they don't want to lose patients. Maybe it will show up on Google someday-it just shows the location I go to. There was no one in the waiting room when I arrived compared to 15 to 20 before and only a few cars in the parking lot so why the doctor was an hour late is beyond me. He was nice enough but I just hate changing doctors.
I have not even ventured near a greenhouse yet...strange as it may sound.... I'd like to say that I am holding good to my promise to SERIOUSLY cut back (given the 2 places this year, I KNOW that when I'm "here" the plants "there" will die and vice versa), but it's really because it's been so damn cold....still freezing at night so that plants can't be left out and I can't carry things in and out anymore....and covering...well, you've heard of the Winds of Nod, right? :-( Anywho...it was supposed to get warmer....and that sorta went south...or east...or west...anywhere but here. High of 48. Hello?? And I wonder why our summers seem short. So glad you've had some encouraging news on the hairfront....fingers crossed for you girl. Keep us posted! Inquiring minds (and heads) wanna know! News is slow to these here parts. ;-)
