Ahhh. This is better. Switched to cross stitch, counting the squares for placement. Much easier for me to see. The light colored threads are really giving me problems, darker is more conducive with much less eye strain, but stitching cross vs. satin is better yet.

Some of the issues I was having in determining satin placement is whether a corner/turn was the same hole, one over, even, or not. Some did/were, some didn't/weren't, and I am not one to continually look at the chart once I get a rhythm. Not sure I am explaining it correctly but you can see what I mean in this snap.
I had to remove the border beneath the first row, failed to see that there is a space between the two which moved the alphabet. Should have only been by one thread, but it's wasn't, so somewhere along the way I erred. Again. Not a concern. But I was three threads off and needed to correct that before continuing.
I'm disappointed that the top alpha is not satin, but I'm young, I'll get over it. Still a great sampler and I can't wait to get to the bottom. This top alpha will go a lot quicker now.
Have a great day!!

I just did a few rows of satin for a roof on a very small project. I can't imagine doing a whole alphabet in satin!
It can feel your frustration. This situation is to compensate the difference situations in the letters. Even tho satin stitched letters are beautiful, requires a lot of attention. You are doing a great job. Go girl
I like your cross stitched letters. Satin stitching isn't fun for me and will usually sub something else in its place. Have a relaxing weekend, Marly!
Can readily understand your switching to cross stitch...your eyelet alph
makes up for intricacy. You are younger than springtime and adapt well.
Have a great weekend...
Cheers to being young....moving on can be cathartic. Looking good GF ~Robin~
The sampler is looking good! And again, once it is done and on the wall, no one will know you customized it.
I often wonder how close the original samplers used for today's patterns were to the teachers' patterns, or what was in their own mind if no pattern was used. If off by a few threads or used the "wrong" stitch or color, did they rip out and redo, or did they say "close enough, moving on" ? And what was the decision point for them to rip or move on?
I find it very difficult to stitch light colored floss!!! Not fun.
Since this is your personal sampler, it only needs to be what makes you happy. I actually prefer the cross-stitch.
Beautiful colors. Old and faded looking.
