Decorative aids

Arthritis is really taking a toll on my right hand.  Heberden's nodes are getting huge and starting on the left also.  Trying to alleviate frustration and pain on simple things with decorative alterations has become a hobby of sorts.  I have several of these Basketville lunch bucket baskets and although easy to lift, the lids are getting difficult to grab.  So I decided to add leather flaps.  Two baskets are still unfinished and need stained or painted but I'll come up with something for them too.

And remember this typcial bench that I had Mark cut open and convert to a shelf?  Those storage baskets that fit perfectly are now sporting jute loops.  So much easier to pull out.  One of my better ideas because so much coffee table stuff is hidden in these baskets.  Pens, papers, magazines, missing floss skeins, stitching aids, extra glasses, and of course, Dove.

My $274 sealed tooth caused me to hit the ceiling when I chomped a piece of cold watermelon.  I called, they said it doesn't always work.  No, I can't have a refund.  I never asked prices because I was just there in February so assumed the costs would be the same.  Costco still has a good dental plan but I never got around to making the almost 4 hour round trip to sign and pick up my card.  They wouldn't mail it.  This dentist would not accept it anyway, he only participates in union plans.

It's hot baby!!  So are the prices of beef.  I thought the processing plants were only down a week or two over a month ago.  So why haven't the prices returned to prior costs?  Really taking advantage of us aren't they?  My local meat market has a huge farm in PA, all meat comes from their animals and processing is done in house, yet they increased prices dramatically.

Have a good day folks.
Iced coffee and chocolate for me.  Thanks for the visit!

Those leather flaps are so sweet. You come up with the best solutions.
So sorry about the sealed tooth that obviously did not seal. Time to look for a new dentist!

Great idea with the jute handles and the leather flaps! Sorry that the sealant didn't help with the sensitivity. I would think that they would offer to make it right.

I love the basket idea. Not sure which I like better the key or the heart. Clever! I also love the open shelf cut out for the bench. I am going to look for the post about Mark cutting them out. I hope to have my husband recreate one for me! I know what you mean about our "mature" hands, when I look down as I'm stitching I see my Grandmas hands. But it is a lovely memory even though they ache.

I hope your arthritis flare-up calms down soon. I have been having a long respite....knock on wood.....from arthritis pain. Rest it and look up some at-home therapy exercises.

I have very bad arthritis in my hands. The Dr. said I need joint replacement surgery on my right hand. My hand would be useless for 12 weeks. No thank you! Thanks to Voltaran gel I can stitch! Your basket idea looks great!

Marly, time to get a new dentist. If he just bought practice, had to close due to Covid and probable school loans, got to make it up somewhere. That bill is about 1/2 the price of a crown. Dentist have been adding a surcharge to bills but around $25 to cover all cleaning and new gadgets that have to use to decrease contamination, I don't mind paying that, but that for 24 minutes is crazy. The sampler is so pretty, you are able to do all that with your eyes and arthritis, you go girl!

Sorry about your tooth sensitivity and no refund. Seems like there's just no winning now days.
Love your baskets. They do make good storage/hiding places.
Instead of "baby it's cold outside", now, you're so right "baby it's hot outside".
Wish we could can some of the heat for Dec., Jan., and Feb..
Take care, enjoy your iced coffee and Dove.
Going to Walmart early this morning to beat the heat and crowd.

Such great ideas Marly - and you follow through on your ideas, me not so much.
I dread the day that these aging somewhat crumpled fingers can't stitch.....but still able to do so - today is a good day.
Take care - sorry for the dental issues/costs. Hubby has to get 3 crowns later this month - I had an implant last year......
Be well

I like your baskets more with your modifications, wish you didn't think to add them because of hand issues.

Stinks about the tooth, no refund, no insurance. I agree might be time to find another dentist. That prescription toothpaste I got for sensitive tooth was Prevident 5000 Plus by Colgate (1.1% sodium floride). It took a week or two for it to work, but it did work. I still use it on occasion as a preventative measure. Maybe tell them you'd like a prescription at no charge, and *maybe* you won't change dentists? The bad part is if this one raised prices so much, all the others in the area may have as well, or soon will?

Meat plants (most? all?) were started back up, but are still battling virus spread, so may be running slower (sick workers? fewer workers? not sure why). So if that meat market got hit by increased demand due to restrictions or lack of supply in grocery, they may be paying overtime to keep their stock up?? Or could be a case of they could, so they did. And yet, prices to the farmers raising the beef and hogs are in the toilet.

I am so impressed with the basket flaps. You are amazing. Every time I grocery shop I find myself gasping at the prices. I quit watching the news months before the Pandemonium and if I accidentally hear or see a few seconds of it, I am in disbelief of what is happening to our country. My anger is building and my fuse is short. My brother who I now live with recently bought a French door refrigerator that is freezing items near the back. The phone conversation with the store (A.K. Nahas) “ technition” ended with me shouting back and hanging up after he said, “You’re not going to like this but things are going to freeze in the back”. No! That is why there is a freezer compartment separate from the refrigeration compartment! I try to remember to have gratitude but it is getting to where every single day is a damn struggle!

Just love your creative flaps, Marly. I cannot fathom that the dentist would not rework
that sealant at no charge... it did not work!!Isn't wonderful that you can err, do shoddy work, get huge prices and not be held accountable? I would let him know a new
dentist is in your future and that you are announcing to one and all your reasons for the change...We can no longer be agreeable and complacent in the name of etiquette.. time to look out for your own best interests with muscle. Hope you can get some relief
for your hands...

You are so incredibly clever! Love those flaps!! And I really like the cutout on the bench coffee table. I think I may have missed that post (more likely, perhaps, I forgot?) Our living room is too small even the smallest of benches (I tried....my husband hated it because it, of course, impeded him getting off the couch). Yes, even here in the nation's "dairyland," meat prices are nuts. I bought some ground chuck to make cowboy beans for the 4th and yikes!! I thought I was buying lobster for the it was priced. Another reason to dislike dentists. I don't think there is a business around anymore that cares about customer satisfaction. I thought it was just really old folks who said "what is this world coming to?" .... but heck, I'm not THAT old (am I??) ~Robin~
