I assumed these bins were a different type of floss since they are minus the color number. Nope. There is another section marked 56 cents (they are 62), no identifying color numbers, not specialty thread, standard cotton DMC. In no order. You have to crunch down (literally as that was the sound my body was making) and with magnifiers to find the color number on the label. Maybe these bins were for a metallic or variegated at some point, but I didn't see anything by good ol' cotton.
Then there's this area.
So from now on, I will order online and have them search. They found my colors, so they must have a secret system not shared with customers. I am grateful for that, because I have all the colors I need for all the projects. Sure I do. There's always that one, isn't there?
I need a nap.

Even before Covid I never went to stores, I do not like that thread is always on the lowest shelf. Let someone else do the looking. I am old. You are correct they are usually messy too, or empty.
What a mess! I think we re all being forced to order online!
Our local Michael`s store is great, I think it`s because the workers there are so helpful and hard working. Have to admit there is no other craft store within a 100 mile radius unless you count Walmart. Whether it be crafts, clothing, shoes, or any other item I prefer to shop in person but so many stores have closed in the past few years, our mall is a ghost town (maybe 4 stores open) and our choices are limited to a couple of big box stores. I found it interesting that your local Michaels store was in Hermitage...my Dad lived there for several years! Could you have been the "crabass" neighbor he complained about? Hahaha!
Oh my. I so miss my ACMoore store, because their DMC was always well organized. Glad you got what you needed anyway.
A real cluster for sure!
I am just amazed at what you keep showing with the DMC at stores. Yuck! I have a JoAnn, Michael's and a Hobby Lobby by me and they are all neat and organized and I am very thankful!
What a mess! And as anonymous said - the local employees (and store manager) make a big difference in how well things are kept. Maybe your photos of the mess need to be sent to corporate? Then again, I'd bet they are the ones who cut local employees to the bone and aren't enough to get all the work done if that's why the floss is such a mess. How's the rest of the store?
I can't believe that people called you out for saying "your" store is a mess because "their" store is not.
Apologies if this is a repeat comment - had no power/internet from Monday 1:00-ish until Friday night. Damned derecho. I tried to comment from phone on a couple of blogs but maybe they didn't go through it seems.
And that's the reason I do not shop at Michael's. They're needlework and yarn section are a disgrace and you can't find anything. I've made my thoughts known to the manager but nothing came of it. I'll stick with Joann's and Hobby Lobby.
Alas - this may be the lament for some time to come. Those drawers look as though they
are phasing out the department, God forbid. I agree you were better off letting them do
the bending and picking if that meant getting what you ordered. Me thinks the world will be somewhat turned upside down for awhile... Slow down and float.
Marly, have you thought about ordering from DMC in the USA. They are in New Jersey I think. May be a little more, but if spend I think $30 get free ship. I have ordered from them a few times, are fast (these days?). Missy is something else, looks like a good snooze. Hope all the other furrballs are doing well. PS: Get on DMC email list have sales occasionally.
Well.... This brings back visions of me trying to find a given DMC floss at Walmart a few years back....and there was just a "blip" in the numbers, with the one I needed nowhere to be found. When asked by the cashier if I had found everything I was looking for, I said no...I didn't find the color floss I was looking for..... I asked if there were any other places in town I might look for the color floss I was looking for....and as she was ringing up the few skeins I DiD find, she (with a straight face) responded that she had only ever seen white, but there was a dental office across the street I might try. And we wonder why the world has turned upside down???? ~Robin~
Marly: I have to order online to make sure I get what I need with DMC, I have found that the bins are not kept in order.
So sorry you had this happen.
Have a great week.
Catherine
I live in the Pittsburgh area and we are fortunate to have several sources, however, I have noticed that in stores where I have had interactions with employees who do not understand what the floss really is or what we do with it, the bins are a mess. One young woman told me she had been working in the restaurant business (doing what I do not know) and she had no idea what DMC even was.
I think there are so many undercurrents in large retail stores right now that we are probably fortunate that there is anything, in any order but I agree, I am old, stiff, and when I bend over to read a tag my trifocal lenses distort the print. I will order online.
