Change

We're packed and ready to leave, but aren't going to Cleveland now.  She had a right heart cath this morning and will spend several days, tube still in place, in the Heart Failure ICU.   But since there is no chance of a bed in that section for days, she must wait and stay at the ICU she is currently in.  They haven't been able to remove a drop of fluid, still swelling, can't correct the leg blockages until her heart is better.  They don't know if they can help but will try different medications, the first is nitroprusside drip.  No visitors.

Mark was going with me and would have had to stay at the hotel all day, and that will be the case when we get there, maybe next week, if they can help her.  The doctor said once they get the efficiency improved, the fluid should start to reduce.  Her initial visits after the TAVR mentioned the surgical mitral valve repair that would greatly reduce the heart strain, if she can handle it.  We also learned that the TAVR surgery from Cleveland is not optimal.

Your kindness and concern regarding Carole is so appreciated.  We all at some point in our lives need to address loved ones suffering or our own.  Those of us that only have a few remaining, can't seem to deal with it.  My months of anxiety dealing with the incorrect diagnosis really affected me in several ways, and I am grateful that I sought another opinion before Carole's crisis.  All those fears and emotions are now directed toward my sister.  We are hoping to have better news in the coming days, and I will certainly be happy to report them.

I decided to jail all three brats inside since they do spend time here, moved things to accommodate two litter boxes, two trays for various foods, Feliway for the terrycloth beneath Bud's dish which helps, notes everywhere as to which doors are most likely an escape route, Petey's dish sunk into a low crock so the critters can't carry away, supplies and food notes.  The garage is also a good choice if we can add perches to get an outside view.  We'll see what happens.

Decided to take the new chart with us and pulled several additional colors for the border.  Original chart photo and a few ideas for color options.

I think I prefer the brighter colors but will probably not change the colors in the body.

I was studying Jane Southward's chart.  Did I pay attention to the over one section, usually a feature that removes a sampler from my wish list?  Did not.  IG photos of a new start was so lovely that I investigated no further.  Always an option when it is contained to substitute other elements.  A reader mentioned that she doesn't stitch many reproductions because most have reference to God or religion.  Started me thinking ..... do you ever consider the message/verse in a sampler when choosing?  Would it cause you to purchase or reject?  I have to be honest, I don't care and most times don't even read it until it's in my hand.  But she brought up an interesting question for sampler lovers.  Does the verse influence your choice?

I will admit that the verbiage in a sampler will have a huge influence on whether or not I purchase the chart. Hope all goes well for your sister.

Am glad the Drs. are trying to find a solution for Carole and certainly hope they are successful.
As for Sampler sayings, whether I stitch what the saying is depends on who I'm stitching the sampler for. If its for me, I sometimes modify it if it is deeply religious or just replace it with some kind of motif or my own words. With all the reproduction samplers I've stitched (and there are quite a few) I've never stitched them just as charted/reproduced.
In closing, please remember to think of yourself and take care of YOU.

Yes. I am always sensitive to what the verbiage says. It’s a make or break factor

All best wishes and hopes for Carole's improvement and recovery. I am not sure I follow you when you said you learned that TAVR surgery from the clinic in Cleveland isn't optimal?? Yes, I can be very obtuse at times...sorry. I don't do a great deal of reproduction samplers but, yes, the mottos do influence me, but in a bit of a different way: Sometimes it is the saying that makes me want to stitch a piece... If it's the design elements I love about a pattern though, it does not matter to me really what the saying is....Added bonus is when I find one that I love both the saying and the design. (Follow that? 😉) ~Robin~

Best wishes to Carol for a speedy recovery. This is such a strain for you Marly, I'm sure. I had not thought much about the words on samplers. I just pick a sampler I like and stitch away!

Sending prayers daily for Carole and for you dealing with all of this. I tend to pick samplers based more on the design as opposed to the verse, but if it is a religious verse I am that much more pleased. I know I have seen the sampler you chose to take, but I cannot place it. I love it and if you have a moment to breathe, I would love to know the name. Best wishes and God bless! capecodgirl565@yahoo.com

Marly, glad they have started on a plan for Carole. Hope you and Mark are getting some rest even though I know it is hard to relax. Carol is in the best place she can be right now. Good thoughts to you all. I pick samplers if I like the verse, some speak to me. I also look at motifs, placement of said motifs and colors, how it goes together and I like wonky. Hang in there, your blog buds are thinking of you.

The verse does not make or break me hooking a sampler and if I like the look, I will go for it no matter the verse (the rare time I now stitch). I actually like a verse with a reference to God or religion and have stitched them in the past.
Sending positive vibes for Carole...you, too.

I have you and Carole in my prayers. You have been through the mill and certainly have had more than your share of troubles. I don't worry about the verse. However, I always like verses that honor God. I do avoid over one. If I know it is there, I won't buy the chart. But I totally understand your problem, it is often hard to determine if there is over one from the pictures.

I have been thinking of you, your sister, your family. Stress in health issues is always overwhelming and never seems to give you a break. Hopes and prayers that some resolution can be had for you and your sister. I like verses with religious tones on samplers. I would not reject one for a God-themed verse! I tend to like animal motifs, birds too, and trees, houses, fences, well it seems just about anything! This one is a beauty. Take care Good luck with the kitty situation!

I'm sure you're glad the doctors have a plan regarding your sister's care. Hopefully one of the medications they are trying will help. So maybe Cleveland next week? So glad you got a correct diagnosis for your own health issue. That makes it easier to concentrate on your sister's health without the anxiety of a fibrosis diagnosis hanging over your head. I'm sure it's a scary time but she's in good hands and God will watch over her. Praying for you all. I'm not a stitcher, just read your blog cause I like it.

There will be something that helps the fluid problem with Carole!
Hope it will soon that you can go to see her and it's good that Mark is with you.
Don't border much about a verse in a sampler--I like the whole look or I don't like it unless the verse is not a nice one. Then I will leave it out the sampler.
Take care about yourself too Marly!
Big hug and lots of love, Truus from Holland

Thoughts and prayers for you and family. So sorry Carole is going through this discomfort and know when you are able to visit will make such a difference for her. You are a wonderful sister and caregiver and hubby is always right by your side. Take care
(I have changed the words in a sampler at times.....but most are part of the character of the old school girl pieces and I love them.)

Thinking of you Marly and sending continued prayers for you, Mark, Carole and the cats. I love samplers with a verse and so far am ok if it is over one. I love them even more if they have a house on them. I enjoy the alpahabets as well. I think it is the combo of all of those elements that I love. It doesn't matter to me if it is a reproduction or a new sampler if it catches my eye. Be well.

The commenters have very interesting thoughts on samplers and the text. One thing that makes me hesitate to stitch those with biblical verse is - unchurched heathen that I am, it seems rather odd that I would have such things on my walls. Then I wonder if I change or leave out the verse, is it dishonoring those who stitched the originals, perhaps more accurately - the teachers that designed the samplers, somehow? Yup - WAAAY too much over thinking this!

If you do stitch Jane Southward and the 1 over 1 is too much, I'm volunteering to stitch that part for you. Just as a warning though - if you get to that part in summer, it might take me a while. Last summer I was too worn out to do much stitching after grubbing weeds out by the roots most days.

It sounds like a good plan with the brats. I had to cable our outside cat dishes to the bench to keep the raccoons from running off with them. We never did find one dish - grrrr. And we often set up additional litter boxes so the person feeding the cat didn't have to deal with that.

I hope the new medications do their magic on Carole. I know it's hard not to be there, but if no visitors allowed at all, it's better you are home instead of sitting in a hotel room staring at the walls. Take care of yourself. (((hugs)))

Yes, the verse influences my choice, as I have become more spiritual than religious. I usually avoid references to death, or how short life is, as well. But if I really love the rest of the sampler, I figure I can find something else to fill in, a la Edgar!

My very best wishes for improvement for your sister, and for your health too.

Best of luck with the cats.

Absolutely affects my purchase. I look at the overall design first, if I like that I read the text. I favour the ones about death being ever present —and to heed its lessons.
I’m sorry about the ongoing health torments.

I'm sure having a small family makes loss much harder and intense, Marly. I never thought about that before, but it makes sense. I'll be in CA for the next few weeks, but just want you to know I'll be thinking of and praying for you and Carole. May not be able to comment, but I will still be reading. Do take good care now ♥

Sit back and take a deep breath and take in the love and caring being sent to you
from all of us. Prayers that solutions will be found for Carole and that you and
Mark can be accommodated comfortably in the process. I often am drawn to the very
old samplers whose verse opens a window to the thinking of the period. I will sometime select a sampler based upon the verse or save the verse for inclusion in a
beautifully designed pattern... I try not to alter the old samplers, however. This
one you are doing is worth the over one or a redesign in those areas...As always, you will find the best solution. Hoping the next few days bring changes for the
better and that you can also get the cats settled into am easeful routine. Blessings
