Petey is a feral cat that I can't handle, treat for fleas, or trap for the vet. He has a heated house inside of a wooden house that we built for him. He eats great food, and always has fresh water. This "abused" pet is happy in his house, yet leaves for hours in the cold which is his choice. I can touch his head for a few seconds before he bolts or swats but no one else can get near. I have two that spend most of their time in my house, ready to rip me to shreds. No intention of bringing another in that fights with Nit, attacks Missy, has ticks on his back, and I'm certain fleas also. If you would like to attempt capturing this fifteen pound male, you'll need prescription medication to knock him out which I can't get from a vet (best administered with a dart gun because he will smell it in his food), take a chance with human meds that may kill him, and have antibiotics on hand for your cat bites. Three months of various bait treats and familiar locations using a large trap failed. Let me know when you're coming, I would really like to de-flea and de-worm him.
I agree with you regarding animals/pets outside, it's heartbreaking, but sometimes it can't be helped so we do the best we can to provide shelter and warmth, food and water.
There is a great number of gullible hateful people currently infecting this country that label and attack people on assumptions rather than facts, the vast majority of them hypocrites. I have no doubt your concern for animals is genuine, and not hypocritical.
Have fun folks!

Marly: Petey looks like he is content in his home, it's a shame he cannot get along with the other fur babies.
There are so many hatful people in this world, its shame that laws are getting so lax everything from a-z.
Have a great evening
Catherine
Marly, we that visit u and your blog know about Petey. He has it made. He is feral and if he did get taken into your house the stress and anxiety would not be good for him or the house inhabitants. He has been living in his house for a few years already. It is safe, warm, cozy, his house. He lives there rent free, with damn good kibble, and fresh clean water. He knows you are his mom and dad and you take care of him. People have no filter or discernment anymore to take the time to understand things they don't understand or that there are reasons things are the way they are. U should not have wasted your time answering. Jen
Marly, you are the best! Such a thoughtful answer ...the angel on your shoulder obviously over ruled the devil on the other. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Marly you are doing the best possible for him and he knows you care. I have been in your position and it wears on you. Your response was very kind. My best to you!
I live in the country and there always seem to be homeless cats in the area, many of which became ours. A couple years ago a nice neighbor set up three small houses in her front yard, which are filled with straw and heated with lamps. These houses are completely safe and comfortable for the homeless cats that travel by. (This past Christmas she even put holiday lights on them.) The cats wander around and seem perfectly healthy, well fed and happy. This lady has taken in many herself and there are only so many that we can house. At one time my husband and I had 8 cats living in the house (I clean a lot.). So my point is these outside cats are perfectly fine in the little heated houses, as I'm sure yours are. You are doing a good job looking after them.
Well done Marly for putting Anonymous back in her hole, why can't people who leave such comments have the guts to let us know who they really are. You are doing a fantastic job with Petey who I am sure would have died already without your help.
Such a pity that people think they have to comment on blogs they never read before and don't know anything of what is going on and why it happens as it is.
Your comment on this is very kind as that is who you are.
Take care of yourself and have a peacefull Sunday,Truus from Holland
Am sorry you've gotten some flack, from someone, who evidently has not been reading your blog for any length of time.
If you had not been taking care of Petey and various other kitties (not your own) they would not be living.
You have been a guardian angel to feral kitties. This person does not know the whole story and evidently doesn't have anything better to do with her/his time.
I agree with Truus !
God bless you, Petey, Missy and Nitzy.
Hugs,
Charlotte in Va.
I understand the entire feral thing Marly. As I have shared with you in the past, my Mom has the same situation going on for years. Ferals come to her as a safe house. She cares for them, because others are not. She has caught some and taken them to the shelter. Some CANNOT BE TRAPPED. It is real! Two have become her indoor cats.
Marly, you give your all for these cats. And I know that because I do read your blog and go back and reread posts. Your response to Anonymous was perfect and maybe (but not likely) they will go and read the care you have given them.
Oh, Marly, the love and attention you've given all of your feral friends through the years is heartwarming. You have given so many kitties better lives through your kindness! I know any of us who are your long-time readers know and understand the situation with Petey and the others and it's unfortunate that Anonymous didn't take the time to really read back through your posts and find out what a giving person you are--to both animals and humans. ♥
Marly, I am so thankful there are such kind and caring people as you. Petey is well loved and cared for and anyone who follows you is well aware of all that you do. I am sorry Anonymous wasn't able to take the time to get the facts before commenting.
Anonymous says dog - I suspect someone trolling with a bot (looking for "frozen water dish"?) and pasting in a canned comment. It's obvious that anonymous has not read the last post, let alone of your efforts to catch Petey over the last 2, or is it 3 now?, years.
IF Petey ever decides to become less feral, it will be on his time schedule and terms. And the safety of Nitzy and Missy, who have been indoor cats for years, is a concern also. You've done the best you can for Petey, Marly. Far more than many would have done.
Ditto what everyone has said.
Some people are just haters 🤬
Anyone who has the often heartbreaking task of caring for feral cats would be comforted and probably jealous of your magnificent set-up.
It's amazing-- and so are you.
[Only anonymous because I don't "do" social media beyond reading]
Haters gotta hate. Your response couldn't be more perfect. Let me know when Anonymous plans on the Great Attempt as I might venture out East after all. I do hope you will sell tickets. ~Robin~
My faith in you has been restored. Thank you
Living in a rural area, we have lots of ranches, as well as regular folks like us, who have outdoor cats...these animals prefer outside to inside, even when super cold....they get along fine with food and water provided....some of us have barns with hay where they find very comfortable and warm sleeping quarters, and some have "cat houses" on our decks, or in garages or other outbuildings, with various types of heat...people who don't know or understand different ways of life should just keep quiet....many of us have native American backgrounds....just because cultures are different, one is not necessarily better than another!
Your reply to Anon was so Marly...clever and spot on. Sell tickets and we may all
converge on the heated house to watch Anon not even manage to put a dent into what you have accomplished for Petey these past years. Now it's back to caring and friendly blog exchanges..too much time and space have been wasted on you-know-whom....
No words. They are everywhere hiding behind computer screens spreading their venom about anything and anything. God Bless Them!
