Altered the birds, kept three colors but a little neater and pinkless. A very small part of Jean and not what the eye is drawn to. I think this is the first project that had "smocking", different and fun. I had to also alter two panels, just couldn't focus last night so improvised.
It's nice to get back to words and letter stitching, even if only one line and the final. I have a few smaller projects lined up, all motifs, and after that I will look for the ease of letters. I will use my new book of motifs to finish ...... oh my. Who is she? Rachel! Yes, Rachel.
George was nine years old when he was required to stitch his sampler. According to a note written by his sister, George was sent to a girls school as punishment for an unpardonable sin. One can only imagine what George must have done to offend his parents to such a degree that they would have sent him to a girls school.
So what did he do? Do I want to honor this little snot if he hurt someone or an animal? Maybe he was just obstinate and needed to learn manners, probably more like it. What did you do George???
Be safe.

Lovely sampler, nice to remember George. Maybe some genealogist could trace him.
Hmmm, never heard of George...makes one wonder, doesn't it? also just a tad on the creepy side (for moi). Your stitching Marly - just so lovely as always.
My son, when in country day school had to embroider a sampler, as did both girls and boys in the class. He did all the letters/numbers above and chose the NY skyline outline for his "picture" panel below. Always treasured by his own family. It was once
in an EGA exhibit as example of needlework done by a boy. We may never know the full story of George, bless his heart.
Oh it’s THAT George!! We all know what he did Marly..
Georgey Porgey pudding and pie
Kissed the girls and made them cry
When the boys came out to play
Georgey Porgey ran away
Mebbe George was effeminate…? ( not that there’s anything wrong with it)
Well, you don't wanna know where my head went with this one LOL....quite a "stiff" and long-term punishment for a mere childish peccadillo, don't ya think?? But then I read Kimm's comment and almost spit out a perfectly wonderful mouthful of pinot grigio. LMBO. ~Robin~
Great minds think alike. I am wondering if George perhaps did have a feminine leaning, punishable at the time by something severe. Poor little guy.
As an aside, from the time I was three years old I named all my pets George. George the cat x3, George the parakeet, my girl kitty was Georgia Louise, you get the idea. It is a good name, I think George was a good boy.
Sweet sampler Marley, better without the pink I think.
