Are you thinking I'm a little overboard? I'm actually not frustrated at all and enjoying this project very much. Because it isn't filled with alphabets, bands, motifs, its few elements are the focus. Thread color is important and actually what drew me to this design, especially the two floral clouds. I'm trying to get the same look as the chart's photo and my linen color is close, but not the recommended which usually requires some adjustments in threads.
Overdyed (both linen and threads) is hit and miss as many stitchers have found when comparing their project to the photo. I think I've found the right green. Called for 3013 is far left and barely noticeable, even though it looks great in this photo. The next is 3348, more of a chartreuse, too bright. The next THREE are the same GAST color from three different cards. The last one is C&C, not striking enough. So I chose the first of the three GAST, not too light, not too yellow, and I'm happy with it.
The flower is charted 224 (bottom thread) not my favorite pink since (to me) it is too cool. 3773 (top thread) is perfect. If it doesn't show well once stitched, brighter 754 or similar may work. On the Cocoa linen, those colors may be perfect, but what I'm pulling seems to be closer to the photo on my Oatmeal.
My Phoebe was on the deck this morning, unable to fly more than a few inches off the ground before a beak dive. With the hawks and stray felines, we put him back in the nest. Well that was a mistake. The other four took off as did the little one, not the best flight ability. I watched them for over an hour as they kept getting closer to the woods and frantic mom and dad. Little at a time, they made it into the brush. I'm hoping they will be fine, mom is there and the babes knew enough to go to her.
Visit at the facility with the cousins to see sis this afternoon. She is quite upset as we all are since that background situation hit the fan yesterday.
Our Hobby Lobby is coming soon. Mark's retired friend and his wife are working as temp workers to stock and set up. There were 80, but over 20 quit. They rest are all older and retirees, and understand that when someone is paying you, you have to work.
Enjoy the day.

Oh dear, the background drama hitting the fan is not what you need!
I did similar with a nest, except it was trying to take a photo of barn swallows on the porch. I got up on a stool, the camera held up, and as soon as the flash (I thought it was off!) went, baby swallows exploded out of the nest. Gave me quite a start! But all took off flying quite well and never came back. Come to think of it, that was the last time swallows built a nest in that spot. Your birds will do fine, they got to cover, mom & dad are on watch, and their abilities will grow quickly.
I'm glad you are enjoying the color choosing on this project. I'm enjoying your thoughts on why the colors you are using made the cut. I will say, based on photos of the original, I'd probably make those flower clouds bolder, as compared to the rest they seem quite faded. Overboard? No way, it makes no sense to stitch with colors as designed if it doesn't work with your linen or make you happy.
Lovely colors you are using for this sampler, Marly! I enjoy reading your thoughts on colors and why they make the cut or not for your stitching. I hope the babies survive.
Hoping the grand visit with Carole going well and is laughter-filled.
I just love the color of the dress in this project and so enjoy your
decision-making process. This one is going to be so eye-catching. It
is likely your bird family is settled and secure.. bless you for your
care and attention.
I am glad you are enjoying your color deliberations...I would not. The choices would stymie me with indecisiveness; nor would I have the patience to stitch all the sample swatches. I don't know what has changed in me. Hope the babies do ok. Being a human bird momma is nerve-wracking, no? ~Robin~
Oh gosh! I hope those baby birds ae ok. I worry, of course, since Mabel has been bringing baby birds as presents to us. Yikes!! Nice colors in your sampler Marly. I'm already dreaming of my next one!
We have two Hobby Lobby's in our city. I go twice a year, definitely once in the fall, that's about all I can take of that store. Thank god for senior citizens and retirees wanting/willing to work or a lot of businesses would be up a creek. Younger people will work until they get bored, change jobs cause they can or just not show up. Terrible work ethic.
I was so disappointed when our Hobby Lobby opened a couple years ago. That was about the time they did away with the 40% coupon. Everything is so darn expensive, so if it isn't on sale for 50% off, I refuse to buy and it is just a bit too far (about 25 minutes) to just run for one or two things.
