I've read that a sampler should be started and finished in the month of January. But my mushy mind can't remember what this superstition claims or its catchy term. With my current stress level, not taking any chances so I'm on board.
Mary Ann Bradbury is another old hand printed chart from R&R. Small and very easy, few colors, a little gem. Charted for flower thread, I pulled DMC of my choice.
Elizabeth Moor is a chart I've shown before, still love, still hesitating to attempt. Does that make me a "sluggard"? I love her message!
The first letter of each word is over two, the rest over one. If I plan to stitch only two words every few days, maybe I could tolerate. Also hand printed which makes it more difficult.
Another day at Carole's today, called UPMC health choice provider and was told if we don't receive a return call by Friday afternoon, try again next week. I would like to file a formal complaint, but where? With who? Spoke with their main office in Pittsburgh three times. She went from a lively, upbeat, healthy (for her condition) woman, now despondent, greatly stressed, lacking care she needs and was promised by this provider. Another 60 day process to once again apply for assistance requiring 5 years of paperwork, would offer no immediate help or guarantee return to the same facility. I needed half of an ativan to sleep last night, only two left!
I never explained the "background" issue which adds another dimension to the story, and won't. I complain and vent too much as it is.
I plan to offer Ann's chart as a giftaway this weekend.
Stay safe and well!
Thanks for the visit.

I commiserate with your frustrations with health care services. I have been on the phone almost non-stop since last Thursday to get my mom into hospice services and deal with an aide issue that has now resulted in the aide being fired. Home care is very difficult to coordinate and take constant vigilance. I am following my mother's wishes and her care has been wonderful until just this week. I really like all of those samplers. I would probably work on the one whose message speaks to you.
I like the new choices, I have never heard about starting and finishing a Sampler in January, I have been busy constructing past projects that have been stitched and waiting in the dark for a full finish.

Don't know, nor do I want to know, the superstition about the January sampler as it would only give me another thing to think about and perhaps "concern" about. While I do love Elizabeth's message, I'm particularly partial to Mary Ann for some reason. Since we're already at the twilight of January 12, I'd opt for Mary Ann as it is more likely to finish her without stressing that you won't before the end of the month? (And, perhaps the fact that Ann is Mary's second name, the good mojo of your last Ann will carry through?? Geesh...talk about superstitional logic. (And, yeah, I know "superstitional" isn't a real word but I'm dubbing it one.) ~Robin~
Mary and Elizabeth both look like great charts. I like the idea of an initial letter being over 2 and the remaining letters in a word over 1. But...it might make me crazy too. LOL I never heard that January superstition either (and a good thing I had not and I will now forget it!). I am so sorry that your woes and struggles continue on Carole's behalf. Hoping you can get some resolution.
I have never done a big sampler, but I suggest that you do the one that you will enjoy the most.
I did the small one that you offered (free) with the crown. It's a pretty, cute one..
Want to get started on something else, but time will tell when that will be.
We (I) had a situation with Home care.....got that straightened out real quick or should I say my daughter did.
Have a happy Friday and weekend.
Hugs,
Charlotte in Va.
Mary Ann is a sweet little sampler, Marly.
I'm not asking you to reveal the situation, just saying there's probably a lot of speculation amongst your readers as to what it is. Whatever it is, I hope it doesn't drag you into it or end up with people expecting you and Mark to take care of everything!
As to who to contact, does Pennsylvania have an ombudsman office? Or what about the Department of Health and Human Services, or whatever it might be called in your state? The UPMC provider CEO or COO? An IG/Twitter/FB post outlining what's happening (or rather NOT happening)? Letter to the editor in the newspaper? Is there a TV news station that does spots on people having trouble with dealing with companies?
I've never heard of the superstitchion of having to start/complete a sampler in January. Maybe it's one of the stitch along things that pop up this time of year? Or a twist on the superstition I have heard - what you do on January 1st is what you'll be doing the rest of the year? Both sampler options are lovely choices. If I just finish Ann and had Carole situation stressing me out, I'd be probably be looking for something simpler like Mary Ann.
Another thought - what about contacting your district's state representative or senator?
Mary Ann Bradbury is my kind of project! Short and Sweet. That said, I love the colors you chose too.
The superstition thing is new to me but I may need something like that looming in the corner to get me to finish a project:)
I sent you an email regarding Carole. Too much to discuss here. Let us hope the snow does not fall as predicted this weekend!
Theat start it in January, finish it in January stitch is called a blessing sampler ... which I just found out yesterday. 🙄
