From our fall Amish greenhouse, the biggest mums around. My size 9 for reference.
For $10.
Chris asked me to find nice ones for Carole's October b-day, he wanted tri-color if possible. They were all mauve, white, yellow, not ours or her favorite mum color mix. So solid yellow and rust with one bronze filled the car.
One last note about the china (and crystal). It's mine, not from family. Mom had a set that was offered through a local grocery. Each week, depending on total spent, a piece could be purchased for a few cents or free. No idea how long it took, but she had the complete set from cups to platter. It wasn't what she liked, but in those days you got what you could and were grateful. She did not want to bring them here and told my brother to put it all out for the garage sale. So I don't have an inherited set to donate, just mine, but my friend has three!
Very close to requiring a decision on completing the entire sampler or ending with two drums.
Last week of September. Damn.

Holy hell those are big mums!!! And what a great price…and the fact that they are not half bloomed out.
Somehow my iPad is letting me comment as Lauren. I haven’t been able to comment as Rugs and Pugs or Lauren in the past. Haven’t a clue what changed 🤷♀️
Those are some big plants! Sweet!
I remember those grocery store premiums. Sometimes it was things like books - I was always so disappointed when we couldn't get the whole set.
The mums are huge, Marly! What a fabulous price for them!
Our "good" set of china growing up was collected as a gas station premium. They were still in the cupboard over the stove when we cleared out the house after Dad died. Mom had died 15 years earlier. Not sure where they ended up. Years ago our Dad gave the youngest daughter Grandma's 24 place setting of Bavarian china with double serving pieces. She wanted it and it will be passed to her daughter that also wants it so it will stay in the family a few more years. I have never seen such huge mums!
Those mums are fabulous, Marly! I know I've asked you before, but what is the name of the place where you buy them? We'll be up your way this weekend and maybe I could snag a couple :)
I, too, remember those grocery store premiums. My dad also got at least four sets of silverware by filling out surveys for drug companies when he was a surgeon. I think each one of us kids got a set. I just passed on some of the pieces to my oldest who was always running out of forks--ha ha!
Crikey...those are some humungous mums! Most of the mums around here are already in fully bloom if not completely spent. In some ways, I guess it makes sense since our hard frosts come so much earlier here than in other parts but it's still disappointing to not have much left to enjoy in October proper. Carole should be tickled yellow, orange and bronze. ~Robin~
