Father's Day

To those of us that lost our dads
today will bring some tears.

To those of you that have your dads
give hugs and hold them near.

For there will come a time when
you'll look back upon the years,

And wish you had just one more day
with the Dad you held so dear.

I knew that time would come and
it was one of my biggest fears.

But I didn't know that time wouldn't lessen
the pain of not having him here.

Happy Flag Day

Greetings on this sunny Saturday.  I hope your weekend is off to a great start.  I just had to post this and share.  I think I may have come up with the perfect putty formula.  Enough pink tones to not turn green under lights, enough warmth to not be cold, darker than cream but lighter than a mid tone.  Eureka!!!   The little sample jars are great and believe me I bought a ton of them, but you can't get the exact breakdown of tints in such a small amount.  All my dark samples were dumped into a plastic coffee can, same with the lights, and after mixing well, the color is not bad!  I'm sure I can use them somewhere.   Here is the new and possibly FINAL formula.
AXL 0...6    CL-0...96   LL-0...345

If you happen to be around Hobby Lobby, stop in for their clearance of Sullivan floss.  NINE cents a skein!  I found them on the clearance wall, not with the DMC.  Did I need floss?  Absolutely not, but I can't pass a bargain and some colors are a little nicer than the DMC match.
The cats are content!  I keep a folded cardboard box here and this is where I sprinkle and rub in catnip.  They love to slide around the cardboard when rolling from their high.  Then they sleep!

I'll be painting this afternoon, and this time, it will not change. Famous words, huh?
I can't believe how bad my memory has become. I may have to start sleeping in my bra so I don't forget it when dressing. Not than anyone could tell the difference, but I have a habit of flapping my top during a hot flash and that may create a different type of flashing.
Not pretty.
Have a great day!!!

Play it again Sam

Jeanne, who I thought was overseas, is from the blog Willow Tree Stitcher and lives in the US.  She chose the verse so I added 1776 and the samplers for the next giveaway.  Why am I giving them away?  I don't know.  I guess I am trying to have less and less small items around, I'm tired of them, I have nothing else to offer, and it's my birth month.  I so appreciate all of you for your friendship and encouragement, care and kindness, and my printer still isn't doing labels properly so I have no boxes.  I don't express my feelings often enough to let you know how much you all mean to me.  I'm not a huggy kissy touchy feely person.  In fact, I think the Better-than-Sex cake IS better than sex, much to my husband's disappointment.  Did he really think it would last forever?

I was going to add the flag to the group and then I saw the back with the Flanders Field poem.  Started bawling again!  I watched the History channel's D-Day special and I can't explain what gets to me about this group of young men from WWII, but I was crying for days.  Just the mention of that beach and really, anything related to soldiers from that time, and my emotions become raw.  And they didn't tell their stories or even talk about it until decades later.

I decided to not use the same entries because maybe the pear you would like has been chosen and you're not interested in any others.  So if you don't mind, I will have a separate post and you will have to enter each time if your choice is still standing.  I think having you choose is better than listing each separately.  At least that's what I think today.

Leave your initials or name in your comment if you want to choose one of the above five.   Drawing will be Sunday night (6/15) at 8pm EST.  Holy crap.  Half of June is gone!!!  What happened?

Winner

Hi all.  Whew.  That was a lot of names to enter into Random. Thanks to all who participated.  If you didn't win, stay tuned!  Except for a few I want to keep, the finished pears will be offered until they're gone.  The winner is Jeanne.  I'll let you know which one she chooses and which will be offered next time.  Thanks again!!

Barbara Schlater from Threads of Gold.

I added her to the ladder (two rungs left) and also considered a frame since an 8 x 10 standard will work fine.  I really like the ladder and it's a great way to display seasonal pieces without changing wall groupings.  I have a large drying rack somewhere and I think it may be another option for displaying unframed pieces. But.

The frame really makes the sampler stand out, outlining and drawing attention to the design. I'm confused people.  I have preferred fringed or hemmed pieces for an earlier look ~ have I been wrong?  It's like someone turned me upside down! I guess one room can have the framed and another hemmed.
And what's with the bad photos?  Quite a few have a mottled pattern of greens.  Maybe it's time for a new camera.  Good grief.  Another decision.  I'm embarrassed to admit that the kitchen cabinets are stalled.  Again.  Every time I get a little done, I see too much yellow, too much green, and although mid-toned, too dark.  Because my kitchen is open to the family room, the trim will be the same color.  So difficult when one side is dark with a north window and the other end with west sunlight.  Changes everything. I really don't want two paint colors in this small area.  So I will look through charts for the next project and let my mind clear of colors for a day or two.

Be back this evening with the winner.
Thanks for visiting.

You asked

the Budman answers.
Hi folks!  A week ago at this time, I was close to that bridge.
Sick as I was, I still remember being shoved into a jail box, put into this large bright yellow cubical on wheels, and feeling like I was moving but I wasn't.  Weird.  Weak as I was, I had enough energy to let out an awful sound that no one heard before.  I continued as my jail box was carried into a room with lots of other prisoners.  People came to look into my cell and that big lady that feeds me told them I was sick and to leave me alone.  She's not always nice.  My cell was carried to a table and I refused to cooperate.  I made them turn the cell upside down and I still held on tight.  I don't even want to tell you where he stuck things, and then he took it out and kept looking at it saying wow!  Hopefully I won't ever go there again.

After losing a few pounds and being held down twice a day to get bad tasting crap squirted into my mouth, I'm feeling pretty good.  I'm enjoying the fresh air and freedom, but I'm still getting sympathy and allowed to nap in the house.

My girlfriend and I are still together and she was by my side, helping me through.  We make out a lot.

Our son on the other hand, was his usual pain in the ass.  He's so wild and goofy.  But he is good for dusting under the furniture.
The big lady told me how concerned you folks were and I appreciate that very much.  I'm still dirty as heck, but I'm eating and feeling like my old self.
The big lady forgot I was in the house so I did a little investigating and found a large wood piece that has all this thread and stuff in boxes.  I thought it would be a good place for a nap.  When I heard her calling my name, I decided to stay put and let her think I was outside.  She gets confused a lot, can't make decisions, and can't remember a damn thing.  I was right.  She figured I was outside so I hunkered down and snoozed for a while.  When she opened the door to look through charts, she woke me, and I scared her.  That was fun!  I hear her yelling a lot, even when no one else is around, but this sound was new.  Kind of screechy if you ask me.  So right now I'm shacked up with my girlfriend and we're spending the night inside.  Seems there is an animal that is stealing water dishes including the big heavy stainless ones for the deer.  We think it may be a sick coon so the big one is making us stay in.  Just in case.
So to all you kind folks, thank you again for thinking of me during my illness.
We'll keep in touch.
