Greetings to you. Leaves are falling and I enjoy the workout of pushing that heavy leaf blower, but need Advil for my leg after. Lots of appointments for the next few weeks to complete injections on the right one, and the laser surgery on the left. Other people have so much more to deal with in both time and pain, that my situation is nothing more than an inconvenience. Our married friend passed away several months ago and now his 37 year old son died. To deal with losing a husband is enough grief, and to add the loss of a son is inconceivable. She certainly could use a few prayers sent her way.
I have Sampler Pear III done but need to stitch it. When choosing the floss, I encountered my usual problem. Look at these two.
Now I certainly don't fault DMC for this since my floss goes back 20 years or more. But what a difference it would make if I charted my old shades and someone used the current.
This is my floss box - and yes, it is actually a cardboard box! It's the template so to speak, of the wood one I plan on making. I keep it in the bottom of my stitch hutch. But I also have a bag of the complete set of the older DMC that I was to sell on EBay (decided not to) and another system that has new and old. It's my warehouse. When I can't find a skein that may be ????? , I go to these business envelope boxes kept in a wicker bin. Clearly marked and I really like this envelope storage for extras.
I plan on posting the two easy recipes for beef and gravy this week. SO good and SO easy. I made this Pepper Butter with the Hungarian wax peppers we had left from the garden and it is one of my favorite condiments. Spread on a sandwich, with chicken, kielbasa, good bread, you name it. Fabulous.
So that's it for now. Instead of running out to squirt the woodpeckers (the original angry birds game), I am pounding on the windows and sure hope I don't experience a hot flash while doing so. Replacement glass is very expensive and I finally have the left wrist's brace off - certainly don't need restriction on the right from pounding damage. The wrist is still swollen, but one day I was putting on pants without the brace (I didn't sleep with it) and twisted it the wrong way. I heard and felt the outside joint snapping before, but this one was huge, and it helped a great deal. On the mend now!
Thank you so much for visiting - hope your weekend was great.
Welcome to new followers!
Stay safe and stitch happy.

You are very organized and don't you say you're not...lol! I never realized there could be so much difference in the old vs new floss.
The boxes are wonderful as usual! I personally would not glue the strawberry to the top. The buyer could do that if they so choose.
Pug hugs :)

Hi Marly....love the boxes just as they are....beautiful...ya...you are a organized gal...wow!!! Blessings Francine
The boxes are wonderful. I agree , I would not glue the berry. Love your organization! I just dump all the numbers in a freezer bag-like all the 500 in a bag. Glad your wrist is getting better. Your poor friend, I can't imagine dealing with all that!
Wow! Such great organisation of your threads. I keep planning to organise mine but never quite seem to get around to finishing the job!
So glad that you are on the mend, sort of.
Have you checked out my 11 days of Kaisievic's Birthday
giveaway. - love to have you join in the fun.
Had the same floss color issue happen with Dmc recently. The new 815 I bought was very different. Luckily a friend had a whole skein to trade me that was in the older shade so I could finish my in progress sampler. Love the envelope idea for extra skeins. CJ in OK
So sorry to hear of your friends loss. It certainly is a real tragedy.
Even though it can be frustrating with the floss color changes. I think it is rather interesting when it happens. I have found some myself from time to time. Some of my floss is that old too.
Love the new boxes. Exspecially the big red house one. I like the strawberry. One is good, but if you did two I think I would make them smaller.
Take is easy, and be careful. We all want to see you mended.
Hello Marly,
Love and prayers to your friend. The changes in thread colour is annoying sometimes, I guess it maybe a ploy to buy more thread!!!
Happy days.
Bev.xoxo
So sorry to hear of your friend's loss. I can't imagine what she's going thru and send lots of prayers her way.
Some of my DMC is atleast that old and I'm sure the color changes would boggle my mind if I tried replacing it. I love the overdyed look so much that I'd probably just go with it if I found the dye lots that much different but then again I'm weird that way. I really like the idea of the envelope storage because what I'm doing now isn't working out as I had hoped. I think I've tried every method known to man at least once but it's never quite right. I spend more time looking for my floss and organizing than stitching some days.

Hey Marly,
I am sorry that your friend has such loss.
The boxes looks amazing, I really like the houses and the pincushion too.
It is so interesting to see the difference in the DMC colors. You are very organized.
That pepper spread looks amazing!
I am glad to know that the wrist is getting better.
Angry birds, lol!
HAve a great week!
I like your dmc organizer prototype a bunch! Sure hope you get to make one from wood soon.
There is really a big difference between the two flosses, certainly one is ancient because also the written is different... The boxes are gorgeous!!!
I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's loss. I will keep her in my prayers.
LOVE the boxes! I've had a few issues with DMC changing colors, too. I was starting to get upset that it was happening while stitching Jane Tindall but I figured since I pay for hand dyed linen and hand dyed thread, I can just count the different dye lots towards the 'it's a repro so I'm trying to make it look old' look. ;)
Hi Marly! I have prayed for your friend.
I would not glue the berries. I like one, not two.
Uck! I literally felt queasy reading of your wrist pop!Ucka poo! *~*
LOVE LOVE LOVE the boxes and definitely know they would be happy sitting in my home! I like the strawberry and agree one would be perfect and unattached for sure.
The boxes are wonderful! Love the strawberry on top -- think it's perfect that way. Your organization of the DMC is so nice. I'm not half as organized with my floss. Not even a third. lol! Your wrist -- yikes! I wonder why it hurts and why the joints popping helps. Sounds painful to me!
Wow, you are SO organized, I am jealous!!
I have run across those color changes with DMC on a number of occasions. A lot of my floss is older too. I find myself buying new floss all the time for fear I'll run into a problem with color differences.
You could attach the strawberry with a little piece of velcro....
Marly, as I buy floss I mark the month/year on it....sometimes I'll
buy several of a particular color when it's on sale and find I have some already....marking helps because some batches are just a smidgeon off (not so noticable as a skein, but stitched is a different story). Your boxes are spectacular....love them all!!
I feel so bad for your friend....cannot imagine both deaths occurring so closely.
Keep all your limbs in the healthy mode!
Prayers for your friend, may she be comforted.
I have some old floss and I think if I ran into this problem, I think I would mix them strand of each. Why, becuase money is tight and there isn't craft shop of any kind any where near me. So my motto... I meant for it to look like that! :o}
I went to all the trouble to put all my threads on those bobbins... as that was the new thing... so ok, I did it and I will admit, easier to find what I wanted, but then my sisters gave me some they had picked up at a garage sale and the lady had put them in envelopes and numbered them... well shoot that would have been so much easier, plus you can see if you have more than one skein etc.
Be careful with your wrist. Neighbor uses a blow up snake to scare the birds away. He says it really works,
Love your boxes. The strawberry for the top is a very nice bonus. Such organization with the DMC..I use the bobbin/plastic box method--but don't keep a supply of extra thread. Seeing the differences...maybe it is a good idea to keep extras.
Your pepper butter looks yummy! Will watch for the easy reciepe. I am all for easy and especially if very good!
Sad about your friend..I cannot even imagine.
All the best with the legs and the wrist.

Your boxes are wonderful...one strawberry please:) You are so right in that every where we look, our problems are small. Your friend's heart must be so heavy...prayers for her.
Love the boxes. and of course I am fond af alll strawberries edible or not.
Such a sad loss. we too had a loss of my sister's daughter this year, age 33 with esophageal cancer...she left behind 3 babies - 1, 4 & 6 years of age. To me this is the saddest of all. Must have Faith and it is not always easy.
Peace & Blessings,
Barb
My local LNS has some of the older DMC floss.
I really must stitch a pear
Ooooo...you know I love your boxes Marly Girl....and the little berries on top are the perfect finishing touch. I vote for only one...and unglued. (I'm not a glue fan....)
As for the DMC organization....all I can say is, you have bunches more than I do. I do keep mine on the plastic (errr...formerly cardboard) bobbins with the preprinted no. labels. Extras are just tossed together in a Ziploc bag that I rummage through as needed. I'd be horrified I suppose if I actually paid attention to changes in dye lots....as I'm sure some of my collection predates yours. :o (Good thing I don't stitch much???)
Smiles & Catch-up Hugs ~ Robin (PS - Will definitely send some prayers up for your friend....Yikes.)
